[0.5] game hangs on world creation

every 4-5 characters I generate (in a completely new world) I briefly see the ‘please wait while creating your world’ message, and then the game screen goes black, and the process goes unresponsive.
Need to kill it with task manager.

Note that on whenever did happened, I had static spawn true. Haven’t seen it happen on static spawn false yet, but that could just be a coincidence.

EDIT: after letting it hang for about 5 minutes, suddenly the game map loads, and the game continues.

I just found a biggie (or a buggie if you wish) !
Hitting NUMLOCK on upon starting the game.exe just before the map starts loading will halt app.
In fact, that’s the only real lockup I’ve encountered.
