What's Happening in YOUR Randomly-generated Apocalypse?

New character accidentally started on wrong world only notice once I was too invested to change. Athena wields a bow and had to run from the shelter as the hordes form the city got a little too close for comfort but have since receded allowing raids on the two houses outside the main part of town. One of them had a RV parked out front with no issues. Started without having to hot-wire it or anything else, drove to the wood-side item stockpile that she spent her first “night” sleeping on emergency blankets/jackets (got woken by by screamer leading to non, full nights rest) Got it there only hitting 1 shrub just as I was pulling up. Night 2 will likely be much more comfortable. Static NPC has been rather helpful and is rather good at melee, and goes unnoticed by mobs allowing me to kite things around him while firing madly with arrows. I need a new Sig that reflects how much RNG loves me I think. Ideas?

Got out of a funk of about an hour of dying before the sun came up ( about 6 1/2 hours in from midnight). I know I choose a;; the difficulty modifiers, but still >:[ I swear the Zmen are harder in the most recent expis. They seem to spawn in jerky location designed to troll you, more hordes seem to come (perhaps a result of melee combat noise?), and in general they seem to hit my unskilled newbie survivor harder.

No armor = a really bad day after my little drunkard gets a tijauna car wash from a horde of greenies.

Still, after time after time of failing to find any cars, diving into houses for warmth and to slip away from hordes, and starting all of the fires inside to kill suddenly zombies to givew myself a chance to hand-loot I got a car and got out of the city with a working headlight. That a migo destroyed after. Jerk.

I felt around the dark for his loot piles, and found soldiers with ratty gear. Their battle scarred clothing was my new lease on life though. Trading up, I lit a torch using the dome lights and saw an NPC not far off.

“put up your hands”
‘Damnit guy’
“okay, lkets trade.”

With his my helmet and a leather backpack I scavanged enough rocks to level up fab to make the sewing needle and craft what I was missing. I took the day to scavange a first aid and heal my infection, I looted a tanks worth of gas (too much gas in broked vehicles, if you ask me), and got a gallon of diesel on standby by dumping out my valuable cheap wine :,(

I came back to my spawn point to find my little buddy was still alive, and putting down smokers like they were jokes  He wouldnt com with me when I told him how we were friends, but he seems capable on his own, so more power. I scouted around the largely suburban city, finding a security van in good shape and 2 electornics stores. I have no flashlight, so thats good.

Unfortunately, the mycus is at the southern doorstep. zombie infighting is rampant, and the commotion is only drawing more hordes. You know, mycus have their super infectious abilities, the blob has its parasitic abilities, but what do the triffid have to keep them competitive in the face of such numbers? Surely not quality, as their base troops so far are relative jokes.

Anywho, I was chased slowly out of town by a horde, and ow that night has fallen Im driving back to town by torchlight to claim my flahslight and hopefully my security van. Wish me luck as I contemplate actually staying near my starter town for once; instead of flying the coop for more interesting terrain.

Just into summer, this is my longest lived survivor yet. Doing decent except for a food shortage and a maddening inability to get fabrication to increase. I may soon regret my choice to stay stationary…

I just successfully trolled myself. Started a new hobo in a military surplus store. An empty military surplus store. Come to find out everything in this whole god forsaken town has been picked dry. Apparently one of my previous characters was pretty thorough when he went through this town.

And that is why I do new worlds each time. Although looting my previous corpse was often helpful, if a bit morbid.

I like to drive in random directions.

I read a book about thievery and trickery as a kid. It advised me to '‘always leave a little salt on the bread’, meaning to take what you want but never all of it. Just like a man who cannot flee will fight to the death, a looted stash cannot produce. A cut down tree wil stop making wood.

So, I try to leave at least a flashlight and a few batteries and a car w/gas in all towns I pick.

=====

In my own world I got my flashlight at the second store transfered my goods to the armored car, and lost my weapons seat. I have found enough books and batteries to take me to the weling rig. The fungus has spread throughout the town, even the northern coast along the river. I have no filter mask so while I enjoy the confusion the mycus causes I myust be careful. especially since so much of town is suburbs. might be worth it to top off survival or chems early as a precaution.

Yea, in my world I usually leave notes like all over to wherever my safehouses are. NPC’s are all illiterate and ~mostly retarded~, so It’s totally safe to leave these notes until I die and download my soul into the unwilling shell of an NPC. Then I suddenly gain the ability to read all of the notes within a 4-maptile radius of my old base, and can gain the coordinates to my dwarf fortress.

That actually brings to mind a VERY important question. Can Illiterate characters read notes written on the ground?..

Dear Fat Zombie;

Why and how did you carry a minifridge on your personage? I mean, thanks? But how? Maybe its a red flag or two when you have to carry a fridge to satiate yourself :v

Pbbt, that’s nothing. I’ve had a zombie drop an aluminum keg at least once before.

I’ve had feral hunters drop televisions more than once.

That…puts a bizarre, hilarious mental image in my head. Like a pounce-happy, hoodie-wearing maniac…with a TV for a head. :V

Oh, yeah, and I’ve been killed once because when I was night slaying the zombie dropped an atomic nightlight. I’ve killed so many zombies that if a zombie drops it, I’ve seen it happen.

Day 14.

Due to my double-length seasons, I expect to see the first evos occuring in perhaps a week. I saw some hungry Zoms spawn naturally, but the first evos are set to go off at ‘10’, and a season seems to be ‘7’ if season legnth is 14

Anywho, Im growing tired of the alcoholic bit. Every hour you gotta take a swig, and gods help you if youre 6 seconds late, because its the LSD Trips for you if you do. Ive been trying to sleep through those.
You know how many crafting recipes and welding jobs take close to that? And trying to repair/fortify crap is annoying enough without that whole bit.

Anywho, I fixed up the car after huddling under the one good roof in my armored car and reading up to maekshift welder. While wandering around looking for food (because fungal ants arent food), I found an NPC who I talked down from a 58 percent success. He had taken some wounds and was infected. So I gave him some first aid. And he used them. To not heal his infection. So he died the next day.

I just found the one bookstore in town, and looted the one copy of advanced circuitry in the whole city. I cleaned out the first floor of a lab and plan to detox there, despite it being an Ice Lab and me now being Heat Dependent. Oh wells. Once I build/install the welder rig I can detox and hopefully not starve.

Well, clearly, there have been some changes to labs in recent builds. I downloaded the latest late last week and again over the weekend, and wow, the changes are subtle but at the same time pretty significant to a seasoned lab-starter.

First off, I found portal generators in the lab. YAY! About time those were back.

Besides that, either the map gen was modified, or I got a TERRIBLE run of bad luck. I had several labs in a row where the only way up was locked in a barracks or prisoner containment, and I had a few where the only way up was right next to a turret.

Also, there definitely seem to be more manhacks and skitterbots… or again, I had an amazingly bad run of luck.

That said, I did find an ELECTRIC jackhammer in a lab for the first time ever… I got a science ID card, an electro hack, an electric jackhammer, AND a teleporter on those run… it was quite silly.

On my current run, I’ve got a huge lab (6 levels deep at least, and every floor seems fairly large so far), I got a science ID, so I got out, but other than foraging for food, I haven’t really gone anywhere yet. I also got a teleporter drop from a scientist, after I was already out.

I got all the computer books, and as I clear the rest of the lab, I’ve gotten several electronics books, too (but not Robots For Fun and Profit, so stuck at 8 for now). Before I had my electronics up much, a scientist butchered to a Metabolic CBM, and I didn’t have anything else installed yet, so hey, why not… FAIL, lose some bionics… oh hey, I lost Acidic Discharge, Itchy Metal Thing, and that one that makes your hands shake. Best CBM fail I’VE ever had! Heh.

Anyway, I also checked the area with the console maps, and there are 6 other labs I can see… no libraries, bookstores, or schools, and only one mansion (right at the edge of vision), but I’m not sure that’s really a problem with all those labs…

Nah, atomic lights have proper radiation shielding. But if a zombie drops one of those in the dead of night? Every zombie close enough to notice the nightlight’s light will see you.

In personal news, why are coffee shops gates to Hell

I found multiple shocker brutes in that hellhole

next to regular brutes and regular shockers

Caffeine should be a viable way to charge bionics

[quote=“TheKobold, post:11068, topic:47”]This was the city i spawned next to when I made my “New York City” game. 16 city size 1 spacing and 5x spawns with both hordes and statics.

GLORIOUS.

I do have questions with regard to that. Ive recently become aware that what spawns in and around the cities depends in part upon their size. Since I use size 8 cities currently and find them on the smaller size, does anybody know what smallest city size that will see all the possible buildings?

So Its day like 22, 28 day seasons.

I keep mentioning season length, but its because Im trying to balance out my mods custom Zmen strength with frequency and date of appearance. So far Ive seen the ones that can spawn at the start, including the rare spawn of ‘Hungry Zs’ and a ‘scales’. I also so the endgamne spawn ‘Zombie Lord’, who would be able to 1v1 even a well-equipped, high powered starter survivor with decent weapons. He has high dodge, high attack, low aggression, but moves in if youre weak.

Funny story I saw him on the first night and promptly forgot about him as I noped on out of the area. Ive been seeing small clusters of blobs around town, and it occured to me at some point that he was making a blob, and that blob was slowly growing into colonies. They also exhibit weird behaviors. A Big Blob was seen traveling down the street, ignoring me, and going directly south. Clearly going to a target location.
I dont think his blob ability is useful per se, but as a lore device or as a funny sideshow I approve. When he did come in for his kill, I started a fire under his ass and tanked the shots. He caused some bleeding of the head, but with sufficient armor I was okay 1v1.

Anywho, last time I checked in I got an npc, he died of infection, I got a map, and detoxed.

This time, I went back to my static NPC and asked him for a job. He asked me to get his dog halfway across the map, and I obliged thinking I could recruit him after. The walk there was actually uneventful, and on the way back I was even able to recruit a mechant. We walked around a horde and when I finished the guy wouldn’t follow me. But he did level up my melee skill to 4, which as a slow learner with severe zombies in I approve.

Me and the merchant, Mason, have been going from area to area. First we fixed up the armored car and named it Brennus, then we went to 2 labs and got map data. This latest lab showed us a 1 stop-sign city that had a clothing store and fire deptartment. Im tempted to try to build a whole city of NPCs there, but Im unsure if Zmen will spawn inside or not. Im up to try though.

Triffids = food, the hospital up north will be annoying, and I think Ill test if a burnt out building can still spawn its special load.
