What's Happening in YOUR Randomly-generated Apocalypse?

It’s for gameplay. If weapons had their realistic ranges, sniping at any range would be way too easy.

Implying that long-range shooting is just point and shoot.

Hey, wind doesnt exist, and muscle fatgue doesnt either.

Im stuck in a strage position. Around me is woodland and nothingness, with the fungus creeping into mystarting hamlet. I have a truck, some limited booze, and even a welder and hacksaw/wrench. But I dont have a direction.

Day 60, morning.
Smashed the display cases the previous day. Went back to the new base and slept then installed them and went back to the town to loot. At least I don’t have to stick to night looting only :stuck_out_tongue:

My alter ego just found a chemistry set. Yaay!

Though to be honest? Which any gun in this game, you’ll miss 90% of the time if your target is beyond, say, 30 tiles.

We already could expand the max ranges to realistic values, but the dispersion would make it unfeasible to actually USE them at that range.

Man, I want realistic ranges. I wanna take that zombie’s head off from 100 tiles away!

Yes, finding that the long range of the .300 rounds didn’t help was really a nasty surprise for me.
Particulary after discovering about zombies evolution, and how the basic setting of four did a multiplication of corrossive zombies and otherwise difficult to fight in melee or low range critters :|.

Next time I will probably tune it down to a minimum, or desactivate it.

Im not understanding what people mean when they say their cities are overrun with suddenly all the acid zombies or all the shocker brutes or all the hulks.

Im using my own selected spawn groups, ones made before evolution was a thing, but I typically either die before the first season ends or I live for 100 days before getting bored and suiciding.

And I have noticed an increase in special undead concentrations over time, but nothing like what people describe. I even have it currently set to 2. half the default.

pedit:

  • Like is the complaint that all the spawns are replaced with evoed critters? Or is it just an annoyingly high percentage but there are still >50% Non-evoed critters?

  • Are you playing with wandering spawns on? I ask because I don’t know if newly spawned monsters evo out the gate or if they have to exist for X-days to qualify (‘half life’ in the monsters json).

Let me find out that people are disabling static spawns to make the game easier only to find out its really screwing them over. Id sympathize and all, but since I prefer it harder Id be having cake and eating it too.

Tune it up, you want longer evolution rates. I found 10 is a pretty decent rate, im getting a few interesting zeds here and there and im almost a month into the game. Or if you want no evolutions go to 0.

right now im hunting for shockers and shocker brutes, i drive my bicycle into city during night and i look for shocker brutes and shockers (they glow in dark so they are easy to find) and then i quickly kill one and throw it corpse into trunk at last i make quick escape (because sound will probaly attract more enemies) and i butcher it for cbm

I had to go to sleep with my ethonal on me so could wake up without alcohol pangs and craft vodka to drink and then go out

Youd think the idea of literally just pouring water into ethanol to make booze to drink wouldn’t be too hard on the poor alki, but damn.

Well. Now that I know that the absurd tanning message is just a display derp, I am undeterred.

Time to go forth and resume building that fort.

It seems the game trolled me hard: I started in a new world, and off to my first night raid.
The first zombie i saw in the distance was … a corrosive zombie.

And the shelter is near a fungal bloom, welp i will try to survive this but i’m not really sure how.
Maybe i’ll just craft my clothes and run away from this awful, awful place.

On my newest survivor, I managed to get the Unified Power System CBM from a crashed helicopter. And successfuly installed it! I then saved, and spent several hours looking for a laser weapon so I can break the game. I ranged farther than I’ve ever gone before from my base, until I found a bunker and a lab right next to each other.

The bunker had a flamethrower that I thought would make a nice addition to my armoured car, and it had a Laser Pistol in it! While I then went into the lab looking for some mutagens and fetuses… Then a scientiest threw a flask of acid at me that instantly crashed the game.

My last save was from 4 hours previous. At least I can probably go back to where the lab and bunker were to get the stuff all over again. Such is life on the Latest Experimental

If it’s anything like my experience with the game, the problem wasn’t the flask of acid, it was the four hours of exploration. The more ground I cover between save/reload, the more likely a crash becomes. Yes, it happens MORE often on some kind of attack (theirs or mine), but just walking or driving along can cause it, too.

Also, if that lab and bunker had not been explored before, their contents will not be the same. That’s just the way it works.

For labs, they will have exactly the same layout on the map (that part is generated from the map seed or something similar), but the contents of the room will be generated randomly, including even what KIND of rooms they are - what was an analyzer the first time may be an observation room, for instance. The stairs and “loot room” will be in the same places, but the contents of the loot room (or even what kind it is) may well be different. I had one that had CBMs in it, the game crashed, I came back, and it was a sub-prime contact room instead.

I’ve had several crashes though out the experimentals that were based off throwing things, me being thrown, or shooting crossbows. So it could be something there. But yea map over load crashing is a real thing.

I’ve just comitted to my most daring raid ever in this game. To put it simply, I’ve made a new vehicle, and I decided to baptize it in the fire of glorious combat. It is called, the Jackal IFV.

It’s a Tri-engine light Infantry Fighting Vehicle. The current armament is a single A7 Laser Rifle Turret, a Mark 19 GL Turret, and a 120mm Autocannon turret.

For its first test, I took it to a city where I knew about the position of a prime Gunstore, but it was guarded by a horde of over 5000 Zombies. It was a literal WALL OF FLESH between me and the gunstore. I didn’t want to kill the whole horde, I just wanted to loot the gunstore to see if I could find another A7 Rifle to further equip the Jackal.

So I rammed my way through the horde at about 80 kilometers per hour, guns blazing in every direction. Then I rammed my way through the gunstore, set the turrets to automatic, and dashed into it from the assault ramp. While I grabbed up all the loot from the store, the turrets were firing fully automatic each and every turn. With my loot in tow, I got back into the car, and switched the turrets back into manual. Then I engaged all three engines simultaneously, to gun my way out.

It was glorious! May Sergey Mosin favor me this day, for surely I have pleased him through bloody combat.

This sounds incredibly epic and foolhardy. I love it!

Eh, here some people do that and try to sell that poison irl, obviously, you should only buy your booze in a trusted place, and don´t believe that Old parr bottle is too cheap because it comes from Venezuela, or expect to get blackout´d and the next you up blind permanently.
