After 38 days of very active in game searing I have yet to find a real cutlass. The search continues. Also can’t seem to locate a copy of sewing designs for designers or whatever it’s called so I had to cheat a little to raise tailoring and mass produce some backpacks.
Other then that, all is peachy. Holed up at the local fire department with a massive collection of guns, ammo and canned food. Life in the post apocalypse is good.
Late-game and so far the long ranger has been a reliable rifle. Range ain’t that hot, but just enough to snipe out a milspec 21 tiles away, though at that range damage is fairly low at 5s and 10s for those turrets.
It’s powerful enough to kill a hulk before it detects you. Starting at 20 I get a shot in. At 15 tiles damage averages at 40, increasing as the hulk gets closer. It was at 7 range when damage hits at about 70 average, and the hulk dies before it could touch me. It has nearly all the mods, including a battle rifle conversion which really helped out with the range and damage. It can take out a tank drone… at night, with a lot of bullets. Not the most efficient way to destroy them, but it’s possible.
Basically, I’m just sampling out all the weapons I could get my hands on so the ammo won’t just be sitting around in my base.
Relocated base in most recent build to an icelab from the starting shelter. Me and my Scarab (modified Beetle) continue to crawl all over the country looking for delicious loot. There’s a flooded room 1 tile south of the stairs down, so infinite water. Temperature in the icelab z-level -1 is hanging out at -20F, so unlimited fresh food storage (loot ALL the milk while it’s still good!). Reinforced all of clothing with felt, probably going to have to make a duplicate set to explore the world with.
Also, what’s going on with head encumberence? A felt lined Balaclava no longer fits under a felt lined survivor helmet. (You cannot wear more than 1 helmet error).
Infected start. Scoundrel with tiger style, which is pretty powerful. 40 damage on crit on a zombie thanks to 14 strength. Would be interesting to see how high it goes later on. In any case, lucked out. Firefighter zombie outside the door, with a first aid kit ready to use… well, ready once I’ve run away from the horde. Apartment tower in the middle of the city, managed to do a quick raid for food and some clothing.
Now holed up next to an evac shelter… two map tiles away from a bee hive. Pretty banged up since I fought two migos. Oh well.
So on my way to the lab in my slightly modified Firetruck (which I forgot to fill the 5 water tanks with water …). I dodged around the bigger town, blew a tire, all the front windows on shrubs and zombies, I made it across the river followed by 1/2 the town. Only to run into 2 milspec and 2 other turrets with an APC @ a roadblock. Those turrets did wonders to thin the horde. Then I was able to do some Chop Shop work on the Firetruck, and move that stuff over to the APC. including dumping then diesel for the V12.
Of which I realized was parked right near the LAB. In we go, and it seems to be a non-ice one for the first time in like 10 playthroughs. I found my first Dragon skin vest. I was wondering if there was a normal layer vest that was decent. I also found the armoury on the first floor. Before I found the shoggoth. Who’s still there… It took a fusion blaster to the face through glass 3x and regenned. I’m just going to leave that part of the lab burning.
I realized my computer skill sucks. Can you jackhammer the walls to get the CBM’s?
After scavenging a first aid book I took a chance and somehow successfully isntalled my first CBMs on this character. Internal furnace, adrenal pump and 2 power storage CBMs. A good start and kind of fitting for a hobo with the furnace. The adrenaline boost should be handy too in combat. Feels like a milestone acheivement on this character after 40+ days scrabbling on the edge of the swamp day by day and narrowly avoiding hordes. Also raided the gunshop . Sadly no smithing tools or materials. But got a variety of ammo types and some guns. Also got a soldering iron off a dead zombie. A bit closer to reaching that bridge to cross the river after that killing session too. Raided a fema camp partially and managed to lose a chasing hulk in the woods around it. overall going well so far!
The Mycus doesn’t seem to like anything else.
Alas, regular fire doesn’t seem to do much good.
Nuclear fire works though. Nuclear fire works well. Nuclear fire attached to drones. Always fun.
EDIT: Yes. I’ve started a new game as a not-so-zombified grenadier. I make manhacks, and mount explosions on them, and giggle when they blow stuff up. (and cry when I loose my manhacks.) …And experience unparalleled glee at loosing a cloud of grenade-hacks on a horde.
[sub]…bewm…[/sub]
Yes.
Also, just open that door to the shoggoth and lure it to a goo pit. Will stop the annoying noise they have which seems to be heard all over the lab.
So this is what prevented me from sleeping down there.
Today was boring. Partially because almost every place of interest has been visited and looted. I nearly totaled my armoured car, being a bit lazy about doing proper turns. Ended ploughing a fair bit of forest, before getting out. Not so lucky with the motorbike, but boy, doing over 220 kph is fun even if it’s just a game. So I’m stuck with that sluggish scooter until I recover a proper engine and another motorbike. Fortunately, I know where to find both.
Did a raid on a military outpost. It seems those stupid turrets cannot stand a chance against M4 too.
And I made it to summer, now I have a problem with clothing. Army winter clothing is too warm. So I’m sporting just a camo tank top, some sneakers and cargo shorts. Not too protective they are.
Started new game. Scoundrel with scorpion venom style. Quite fun. Crits are pretty much a guaranteed knockback, and damage is quite nice. Even managed to defeat a brute at the start.
Hordes are on. After the first day night raid, went through two garages, a grocery store, and apartment complex, and a fema camp. Camp has hordes surrounding it so turning into a base was a bust. Instead, I’m shacking up on the basement of an evac shelter. Transported my goods via shopping cart from fema camp to evac shelter… man, been a long time since I made an evac shelter as a base. The night transport was fun… encounter two shockers. Risked it and killed them via cash cards. Main problem was the sudden appearance of two smokers, but I did have an emergency oxygen pack I picked up by accident, so that was all right.
Stocked on food, got under the hood, a book for tailoring, and for fabrication. Right now there’s a group of zombies surrounding the base; nothing too bad, worst is a couple of toughs and spitters. It’s morning and might as well thin out that horde just to be safe.
Also, scorpion style more or less makes sure that boomers don’t bile me on their death explosion. Plus even the non-knockback pincer fist can stun, so it’s been pretty effective so far.
Previous character was doing pretty well with his rapier and hydraulic muscles and adrenaline pump. Started in a small town next to a mall and cleared most of it out. I built a “vehicle” in a hole in the wall I put through the radio station so I could cook and eat inside but after a foray to the mall I started vomiting out spores and grey goo. No bueno. No antifungals in town so I started exploring but when my arms erupted into terrible death-beasts I took the coward’s way out.
Went back to my psycho-clown build after that. Grabbed an electric car that was outside my starting milsurp store. Drove that out of town while the NPC was getting mashed up by a brute. Been doing edge-of-town hit-and-runs and lo-and-behold an atomic lamp and a machete. So I’m camped out in a swamp now eating swamp critter while reading all night long. Not sure what my long-term plan is for this one. Maybe I’ll end up living at one of the motels I found. Need to read up on cars and scavenge that RV I saw on the bridge.
Encountered a hulk at 5 unarmed and 4 melee. No way to escape… well, I could run, but I don’t want to risk the hulk chasing me all the way to my base. Amazingly, I won without getting damaged.
Pincer fist barely did any damage. In fact, first hit did zero, but somehow that stunned the hulk. Next attack sent hulk flying. The crit for scorpion is the stinger kick, which does knockback and pretty high damage. On the hulk, the crit does around 40 damage per hit.
So, with the hulk stunlocked, I managed to win before the other zeds closed in.
In Soviet Russia, hulk is fisted by you? O.o
In Soviet Russia, hulk is fisted by you? O.o[/quote]
Well, sent flying one tile away, but that still counts!
Clearly one should develop a style that gives absurd knockback, just to be funny. =w=
Joy. Found a bunch of dead drug carriers, and among them one had a fusion arm blaster for trading, and a punch dagger which increased the damage of scorpion style by 20 points. Even better, found one dielectric capacitance system from a technician, a couple of power storages, and solar panels and joint torsion from two shockers which I killed with a cash card. There’s 10 adderalls waiting for me back at base, and it’s time to use it.
With adrenaline pump and my skills and choosing carefully where to fight. I can now melee hulks with decent chances of not dieing. Critting for nearly 100 some times with a knife spear running them through. Glorious battle is joined as I plunder the city for more books and tools and supplies. No sign of lab ID cards yet. But once I get a still built I am going to refine a shit-ton of tainted tornado for fun. I have a an aluminium keg waiting to be filled and everything.
Otherwise going strength to strength. Hunting shockers for more delicious CBMs as a priority during loot runs to find more to make my hobo faster/better in melee. Found an electronics book or two as well so I can go for more difficult CBM installs when I find them. Slaughtering the denizens of the swamp and turning the meat into jerky. Also found an artifact. Though I am not going to use it as its only passives are -3 perc and it eats away at my health to recharge. The charges “Give a vision of the surrounding area.” So i guess it shows hidden enemies. Will be keeping that as the start of a collection at least.
Also holy shit does nomad gear help with its environmental protection against acid. Makes fighting corrosive zombies much easier when combined with a light survivor hood.
Doesn’t give vision to a surrounding area like a map reveal much like the computers in labs?
If so I didn’t get anything. or the area wasn’t enough to go past what I’ve explored. Either way I really dislike the -3 per on that thing. I’ve not really messed around much/ survived long enough in recent plays to really get to experience artifacts much.
Edit: Took a trip out to new area outside that I’ve explored and used the artifact. Oh it does reveal the map. Neat! More handy than I first realised.
Oh and it turned out to be ridiculously pointless. Nothing of value was found there. Testing M4 against turrets was perhaps the only positive outcome of that raid.
Hahaha, bloody hell. Cash Fu, innit.
I have recovered some artefacts too but I’ve forgotten their names. Something about repellent city and repellent something.
