I’ve been playing CDDA off and on for the past two weeks. After countless trial runs and proto-characters I finally managed to create someone who’s thus far gone the distance. I thought I’d create an account here and share the story of 15/8/8/8 female Survivor, Valerie Irving.
Day 1: Started off in an evac shelter that was seemingly integrated into the surrounding suburban community, it was also suprisingly well stocked with some food, clothing, and medical supplies (a first for me.) As I broke into the house next door and prepared to drag my first haul back to the shelter a single sound ‘?’ preceded the action of a Zombie Hulk busting through the wall with zombified friends in tow. I cut my loses an abandoned the shelter along with it’s bounty to escape from an additional hulk and a small horde that had been attracted by noise from the surrounding neighborhood. Lost them in the woods while heading north before stumbling upon another evac shelter outside of suburbia, this would be my new home for the foreseeable future.
Day 2-7: Nothing major, just the usual early game looting and scavenging. Found a wreck involving an APC that had a lot of good parts though.
Day 8: Hit a mansion to the east. Found a Saiga-12 along with some beanbag rounds, a gunstore I hit earlier had birdshot though and it has proven capable of killing Zombie Hulks suprisingly well. I also picked a Standpipe Maintenance Log off one of the regular zombies dealt with during the intial clear, this is my first encounter with anything mutagen related and I’m honestly kind of curious as to why it’s in a mansion. Are there secret labs hidden under mansions a la Resident Evil?
Day 9-15: More looting, hit a couple libraries for reading material and found myself a broadsword in a pawnshop.
Day 16: Stumbled across a basically functional APC in south central suburbia, no diesel in any of the tanks though. Fixed up the front wheel of a motorcycle sidecar combo and installed some car trunks for additional storage space. There aren’t any gas stations visible on the map, so tomorrow I’m riding north in search of a gas station.
Day 17: Found a gas station with diesel pumps after taking the road north through a forest. Filled up a gallon jug and was back home before noon. Drove the APC over to its crippled comrade and set about cutting it apart with an acetylene torch to repair the most damaged portions.
Day 18: Removed the exterior diesel tanks because those are an explosion waiting to happen. Replaced the engine with a V6 gas one from a nearby car and installed interior fuel tanks in the engine compartment. If something manages to penterate (three from the front) two layers of heavy duty frames, boards, and military composite armor it deserves to immolate me in a fiery explosion. I installed an opaque driver side door for ease of use and just incase though.
Day 19-32: So much looting. I tore out all the driver side passenger seating in order to install cargo carriers. Thanks to some clever scavenging and crafting a bed, mini fridge, RV kitchen unit, FOODCO kitchen buddy, and onboard chemistry lab allow me to live on the go out of my new home sweet home. I’ve decided to name it my ‘Bastille’. Other then that, Surburbia is at least 50ish map tiles tall and 20 wide in most places and is by far the largest urban area I’ve seen in game (city size is set to 7.) I looted no less then 6 survivor basements and got both a katana, an SKS with enough mods to turn it into a sniping beast once my marksmanship allows it and 400+ rounds of ammunition, along with a full set of survivor armor.
Day 33 (Today): After drinking my morning cup of coffee and stepping out of my APC mobile home I was promptly punched across the street by a Zombie Hulk. I took no damage, felt no pain, and my gear was no worse for wear as I promtly downed him with half a clip of my SKS. Is this what it feels like to be a badass?
So, I’m confident that I can handle anything short of a Tank Drone. What do I do now? I’ve got some Science ID Cards but haven’t seen any Labs while exploring. My current plan amounts to loading up the mobile home and hitting every pawnshop, police station, gun store or military surplus shop until I see something that peaks my interest.
