Well, crud. There seems to be a near-infinite swarm of hordes on a city very near by base. From what I can see with the molotovs I’ve been throwing, there’s a ton of wrecked cars and buildings, and just swarms and swarms of all sorts of zombies just keep popping up.
Quietly trying to kill the outer layer of the swarms. Killed several zombie masters already, among other things. Main problem right now is not having protection from electricity, as I’ve had too many close calls with shocker brutes, and if I can find a way to protect myself from that, I’d be able to manage.
Or, I could just barge in with my full set of power armor and punch them to death. Got enough batteries, at least.
Naw. I just decided to stomp through the place with powered armor, with helmet for complete protection, and hauling frame for supplies. I think I know why there’s such a swarm, aside from the car wrecks, the area has several pawn and gun stores, which creates alarms, which creates noise, which creates even more zombies.
So far, around 5k batteries have been spent; since most of the stuff I do is using my solar rig, and I unload every battery holding device, I got 20k more.
I’ll be definitely needing it; it’s like each building is like a freaking pinata of zombies and blobs.
Agarggh. I give up. I kill one horde, another one appears on another street. They come to me, I kill them, and magically another swarm pops out from the south where I killed a different one swarm… and then some of the ones I kill show up again. And then a horde of big blobs flood the screen.
And the freaking metal parts of the gun store is still standing, and making a damn alarm sound over and over again. I’m getting debug messages that there’s already a monster in some coordinates.
It’s maddening, so I went up and killed my character, and will start over again… perhaps this time as a normal patient instead of a bionic one. Or do a lab challenge.
Such a shame. I was already had set up atomic lamps on my base, too, and the strawberries were ready to be picked…
In df the undead are a realy menace-. extremely dangerous even to above average adventurers. I ran away from a single z more then once in sheer terror with a fledgling adventurer. And thats just the average z… what would an undead elephant do? To be fair : Considering the lore an average cataclysm z should probably be weaker then the undead in df… i still feel that they are to weak. If all enemies posed realistic amounts of threat then we could actually die epic deaths or win epic battles .
Yeah, DF2014 are kinda hardcore. Don’t tempt me to use that as more fodder for the “bad suggestions” thread. We do NOT need a zombie that can only be killed by damage that’d be high enough to pulp the corpse. o3o
to be fair you can accumulate damage on a bodypart on a zomby till it is pulped. You do not need to kill it in one swing. Its still an extremely dangerous and hard endevour… We do need such an enemy… not nessesarily every z… or maybe every z… no matter.
edit:
Hard enemies make for more fun with strong chars:
Think a treshold bear mutant that takes a zs head in a single paw strike.
its only then epic if the basic run of the mill survivor can t simply ohk a z barehanded.(i am exaggeratiing… its still to easy)
Hmm. I do recall committing !!SCIENCE!! on which of the various blunt weapons are most effective when aimed at the head. I think my experiments concluded flails and mauls to be best, which had the only one-hit-kills. owo
New game time. Firefighter scenario; increased the cap so I can nab more negative skills for points. Bionic firefighter with melee skills. So far, good start, building is at the edge of a city; icon for hordes far up north on open fields… right now the base could be a good location… though problematically there seems to be a tank drone outside… will venture out when night falls.
Whips seemed to have low ability to pulp though, as I found out in said tests. Hmm, I should try and find the thread I started…
Weeeeelll… so I was waiting for night, then somehow there was probably a flaming eye just above the fire base. Smashed the wall, buried me under rubble, then the tank drone killed me.

Whoops. Heheh.
You people get all the amazing deaths and i can t seem to run into such things lately
I actually haven t seen a tank drone in ages. And I literrary never saw one in a squaremile arround my spawnpoint.
I also did read about people falling into lava when decending stairs… that also never happened to me T_T
I never did get past the “testing blunt melee weapons” phase, thread died rather quickly. ;A;
And hell yes it’s cruel, but the only time I had a tank drone near my spawn, the starter NPC took it out with a shotgun. o3o
I realy have a hard time imersing in a world where everything behaves odly. A tank taken down with a shotgun… i dunno.
And the NPC I started off with is amazingly dense. We’re surrounded by zombies, I chat with him and ask for stuff. I want a lighter, so instead he gives me the ammo for his gun, so he ends up dead once he ran out. Then I got the lighter off him. Every single time.
