What's Happening in YOUR Randomly-generated Apocalypse?

I just looted 2 power substations, about 5 electronics stores, and 1 lab, yet I still haven’t found an enhanced memory banks CBM. :frowning: RNG has forsaken me.

I dunno. The loot on spider basements seem more or less the same as the loot on non-spider ones, for most part. I did find a mutated fetus once though, though I usually prefer the basements that have a lot of survivor zombies.

I think maybe your expectations are in need of some modification, if you will pardon my saying so.

Of course, regular basements are frequently worth looting

This is whats happening in my current playthrough:

After probably 20-30 attempts, I made it out of the lab on a Lab Challenge playthrough, via a teleporter. Which makes getting back in problematic. I started out as an unwilling mutant with a bunch of the negative traits for Cephalapods (and Slimed) - but by the time I got out, my poor unwilling mutant, Victoria, was a hideously mutated freak with 4 arms, 4 legs, trailing slime everywhere she goes, with giant bulbous squid eyes and an octopus sucker-mouth. And a vulnerability to sunlight.

Unfortunately, all of the aquatic adaptations she gained were useless as there’s no river nearby. She’s in the middle of endless forest, with only one small town … uh, about a full day’s crawl away. Movement very far is not really short-term foreseeable, due to her body being basically useless. So she found an LMOE shelter that was revealed by a Downloaded Lab Map, filled it up with books from a mansion’s library on the other half of the forest, and proceeded to turn it into her shell, basically. She sits in there, endlessly reading, only venturing out for more books, or to find bird eggs or vegetables or minor scavenging when she’s at risk of going completely stir-crazy.

My present game is a lab-trapped unwilling mutant. Began with ursine vision to make lab exploration easier, took robust genetics, fencing, tentacle arms, and pretty good stats. Melee ability started out pretty powerful (with a cudgel) but was not finding any food in the lab, so decided to escape ASAP. From grim experience I decided NOT to mess with mutagen until I had the supplies and skill to make my own purifier. Luckily found glasses pretty early on in the lab for day vision. Spent a few hours tearing apart rags for thread, then built myself a homewrecker. Snuck around the entrance turret in darkness and thankfully was able to bash through a side room and then outside without getting spotted or shot at. Crawled out into the real world nearly naked, freezing, starving, and thirsty.

Didn’t take long to procure food…with my melee ability was pretty easy to fend off the hordes. Had a few issues when I built a forged sword only to have it stick into anything and everything. Also my first attempts at vehicle craft failed miserably due to some sort of battery power leak…security system, damaged battery, or something like that. Eventually went with a gasoline-based car with the idea of powering all my tools from it. Spent a while in town…completely armored the car, added some turrets swiped from an armored personnel carrier, replaced the trunks with cargo carrier. Filled the car to the brim with tools, food, and supplies.

At present: Have raided several towns, built up most skills to level 7+, hit several labs, a couple military bunkers. Have a whole suite of bionics. Decided to try and go spider - have a couple decent spider mutations without any negatives thanks to robust genetics, purifier, and a lot of supplies. Just found a refugee shelter and finishing off my initial quests. A couple survivor-zombie filled basements and some decent tailoring have me pretty set up with survivor gear.

Only a couple really close calls: The hand encumbrance makes reloading a pain. Discovered just how painful once when trying to take down a shocker brute. Ended up not going so well. Another time - got cocky with my armor and tried to hack down an SMG-brandishing NPC with my sword. Took longer than expected due to lots of pain, and the bastard managed to shoot one of my arms to pulp. Finished drugged to my gills with half a bar of torso health. On the other hand, picked up over 100 rounds of 9mm ammo from it, which lasted me a fair while.

I have begun construction of The Cube, a 6x6 box on wheels which I shall seal my character in when it is complete. Inside will be 60 gallons of water, a month’s worth of food, and a camera system for viewing the outside world. My character will eat in The Cube, sleep in The Cube, and if necessary die in The Cube. Once one enters The Cube, they are forbidden to leave.

Inside The Cube is a fridge, an electric engine system, and all mementos of the outside world. There is also a small, empty frame tile which my character shall use to retrieve items off the ground from the outside world so I may periodically replenish my supplies. Once The Cube is complete, my character shall never again set foot in the dangerous outside world.

I’m currently early in an Unwilling Mutant lab challenge… where I got a weird “unable to place” error of some kind… and STARTED OUTSIDE. Woo!

That error seems a little odd, since it quite happily placed me directly next to a turret the game before (that was a fast game, ha ha ha).

A challenge worthy of a dwarf!

But might it not be better to have SOME accounting for further food?

I must go troglobite next time then- it’s the dwarf mutation tree, after all!

There’s a little square inside which only contains a heavy duty frame, so I can pick up items off the ground through it without sifting through junk.

Decided to try sealing a zombie corpse on a crate. Found a suitable not-pulped/bruised/etc zombie corpse, threw him in the wheelbarrow, and decided to raid a few houses. The bugger came back to life as I was making a crate at the home base, so it got killed again, leaving my poor player character to mop up the blood on the walls. With the crate sealed, I went to bed.

Result, the zombie came back to life, and managed to break the door open. So, I kill it and butcher it, losing a door.

What disappoints me is the fact that the crate didn’t even break. I guess it respawned outside the crate.

I’ve finally found some weapon mods. .22 rechamber kit and double magazine.
I had a P90 and a crate of .22 ratshot from previous raid on my person at the time, so I did the obvious thing.

FULLY AUTOMATIC 100-ROUNDS DEVICE OF DOOM RAINING SHOT AT 900RPM
It was surprisingly effective, basically ripping zombies in half, untill a zombie cop came and reflected everything with his bulletproof vest…

I’ve also swapped some parts between my motorcycle and a road roller, it went so fast when I’ve finally crashed into a wall it sent me flying inside the building.

I want one. Do you accept payments in 9mm ammo?

How the heck do you reseal stuff in crates? IS THERE A WAY TO PUT STUFF IN THOSE CANVAS SACKS I FIND LAYING AROUND, TOO? Holy crap. I’d love to shove stuff in a canvas sack and drag it around or pick it up - the whole…I can drop my backpack and everything stays in my hands has always bothered me.

Well, why not? Just normal 9mm ammo, though, since turrets can only use that type.

Seriously, I wanted to do it for the hell of it. Right now I’m considering using an atomic battery mod on a vibrator, just for the sheer hell of it, though it really doesn’t have much flair as stuffing and trapping as many zombies on a single crate…

Remove all other items from a friendly NPC, give him your atomic vibrator to use as a weapon and drop a crate of zombies on him.
If he survives… insert idea for a prize

Playing a nudist challenge mutant (no worn items at all).
Caught a cold, because nudist means no gas mask.
In feverish dreams, I dreamed of my shoes which didn’t fit.

Ooh. Hope the wiki guide has proved useful, Coolthulhu?

Some of it was, though since it was my first time playing nudist, I went with “easy mode” here (summer experiment start - pretty much plays by itself) and I didn’t have the chance to test out some of the tips.
It was the guide that inspired me to try the challenge.

I updated the guide a bit.

Ah, thanks. Haven’t been on the wiki much. The big time-waster for me there had been updating the Professions page, and byt the time I’m maybe halfway through doing that 0.C is out. @_@

EDIT: Aw, no more mention of dinomod being bad for nudists that wish to remain undigested? o3o
