you could say I’m stocked, but now I have to find more shit, like a hotplate, a cot…
city has 4 gun stores
5 gas stations
1 hardware store
0 garages or mil surplus
That’s because I spend too much time on the forums on my phone when I can’t code or play Cata.
It was also a lucky encounter. At night, plenty of range and it didn’t spot me, and I randomly got a LAW from some wreckage.
(With apologies to John Candlebury et al and Bruce Cockburn)
Here comes the chicken walker, second time today
Everybody scatters, and hopes the devs nerf it away
How many characters it’s killed no accurate count can say
If they had a rocket launcher, they might be alive today
…
People posted tips and tests, at least Flame tried
Every time people see it though they get headlights in their eyes
Standard roguelike panic leading to nerf-now cries
But you had a rocket launcher, so that son of a jagoff DIED.
Started world, got what I could carry from LMOE Shelter but not enough space for everything, had plenty of guns but only had space for a handgun so the first one I seen in the pile was a 1911 so I took it with 2 boxes of .45 (100 rounds) Loaded it up, went outside and the static NPC that spawns with me had a Simple Flamethrower, asked it for a quest…JABERWOCK! Spawned right in the SW Map tile and the NPC gave me some Gas when I asked for a item, Went to Run back inside hoping to grab the Rivtech Shotty with Caseless Buckshot Ammo after dropping stuff, NOPE it spotted me and chased me inside to the gun cage, I said fuck it and used my 1911 and the RNG Gods shined on me, took down the Jaberwock with a full clip (7 shots of .45 ACP) from the 1911, and that’s how I got my first Jaberwock Kill!
Pic or it didn’t happen right?
I apparently, somehow, managed to generate a world with no evac shelters. I spawned in the small space between two larger cities amid a bunch of craters, with a mi-go attacking a nearby NPC.
So it’s finally happened! And I just KNOW I’m going to regret telling the story… I always die after I talk with you people!
I’ve been running amok in this town nearby, using the Evac shelter as my base of operations. I have enough books to educate an entire school district, tons of tools of wonderful usefulness, and I’ve finally reached Autumn for the first time ever! Yay me! I’ve managed to get an RV up and running and I’m cruising around the town in it, searching for the ever elusive vehicle welding rig. I’ve got the frame/solar panel/storage battery concocted back at base and just waiting for it. With a little more electronics skill, I can make one of my own. But, as luck would have it, I found a few very good things!
Firstly, I found where my last character died, down in a lonely, cold basement he was chased into by a pack of zombies that had snuck up on him. I took all his things, but left his deputy star down there as a tribute to his valiant efforts. Both of my .45 USP’s are modified and I stumbled on a Savage F11(?) that I tweaked out with an extended barrel, laser sights and a double magazine mod.
While I was gathering up the remnants of my former self, I found the elusive welding rig, sitting in a garage just to the south of me. However, as I went that direction to claim my treasure, the afore-mentioned zombie troop came around the corner… I think it was something like 5 survivor zombies, plenty of spitters and children, and of course, the obligatory brute. I don’t even have hoards turned on, these guys are just a cooperative lot.
Anyway! I’m hauling ass back to my RV with my rig and can’t quite get there because these buggers keep getting in my way! I’m cutting them down here and there, but the pack keeps making me have to duck into buildings and behind doorways to funnel them a bit. In one glorious moment, I spotted the brute way over to the north east… All my local friendlies were dealt with, and I didn’t want him getting near me, so it was time to break out the Savage Rifle. Dropped him in two shots from just under 60 tiles away. I enjoyed that
Anyway… Too long a story… I have my welding rig set up, my RV is being worked on. I’m loving this portable, infinite powered welder… I fully repair a car then use my hacksaw and wrench to tear all the pieces out. I think Mechanics just rolled into Level 9. Busy trying to gather up the pieces I need to make some reinforced windshields and armor plates now. I finally have a viable vehicular future! Yay!
Thats a cool sotry dude.
Keep us posted on that one.
I never seem to live longer than a few days though
Just started (yet a fucking nother…) Extremely Bad Day start…
Started in a garage with a car in it. The fire was four tiles from the care.
got clear by /one/ tile.

Slime threshold…I love it! One mutation in particular doubled my character’s intelligence, which now sits comfortably at 32 with bionics. My drunken boxing is -strong-
Reading a bunch of books, haven’t slept in 4 days thanks to atomic coffee, Best Practices for Compound Delivery is being a pain with my character getting depressed whenever he tries to read it.
Everything from Compound Delivery can be found in another book. Besides, what use to you are the serum without the mutagens used to make them?

Dunno, just wanted to toss all the books in my bike’s trunk, read through it anyway after drinking a large quantity of atomic coffee when I got very thirsty.
I have this strange desire to smash things in this game, its usually harmless but it can be a bit problematic when there’s solar panels on the floor, so I have to build them onto something so I don’t destroy them. xD
I decided to build another vehicle, this time it will be a bit smaller then the last one for reasons you may or may not understand. Also Holy crap 58" large steel drums take a long time to disassemble.
Kind of boring around here, I kinda wish a horde would just storm on through, meh I can just go on a road trip later.
It’s not quite happening at the moment, but I took a picture of what is perhaps one of the worst starting situations ever.

Really bad day start, no combat skills. What would you do in a situation like this?
Reroll with static NPC’s.
Hope the static NPC doesn’t put you full of 9mm holes.

i play with static npc
that one in shelter will spray .45 at zombies (mostly, sometimes will beat hulk with chocolade pancake)
Every static npc I’ve seen for the very short time I’ve had it on… Never seemed to spawn with anything more than melee weapons oddly enough. I was a little too afraid of them stealing the huge pile of explosive weaponry in my car and promptly blowing me up with it.
Don’t store items near NPC’s. Problem solved.

Deal with the morale decrease by having an mp3 player activated right before you read the book. It should offset the morale penalty for reading with its post glams bassbheavy high speed polka.
what shelter is that?
also, in my experience with NPCs, Static isn’t as bad as Random, only issues with Static is the occasional Jabberwock to start with, burning/blowing stuff up with a Flame thrower and not following me (Granted it’s likely due to Ugly trait or no Skills that influence talking) while Randoms can Hold you up and rob you, become hostile and shoot you, Take stuff you have laying around, ETC but there are moments that Randoms are nice/useful, plus they can be used as Fodder, let them deal with Zeds and monsters while you save Ammo
