…Yeah.
After losing several of my characters I learned one thing - you don’t leeroy jenkins into a town and survive. Sure, I knew that even before I installed CDDA. But every single time I was doing perfectly fine, craft that, scavenge that… Then I got bored. Why wait for the nightfall if I’m faster than th-respawn
Now that dying became even more boring than waiting for the night, I set up a base in a garage.
Then I learned that concrete is 100% flammable in a very painfull way.
I was really pissed off, the garage collapsed on all of my stuff because I made a fire with some boots to cook the moose that kept attacking me untill I fired both my barrels at it point-blank. Like, what. Even zombies give up after some time.
My new base is at the fire station. The first thing I did was make myself a brazier.
Now I have a lot of guns, not a lot of ammo, but still enough to fight my way through the town if something goes really wrong. However, I keep them safe in the base - if I have to use a firearm that means I’m already fucked, so I don’t risk using them. I carry sawn-off pipe shotguns and flintlocks.
When I go outside, I wear 3 vests - superalloy, steel and something. I guess that means I would survive a tank shell as long as it hit my upper body… And while I’m inside, I wear a gas mask. Because the brazier makes living here a hell. Literally.
Oh, and I have the CARTMOBILE 3000 X-PRO. Basically it’s a quad-ish pedal-powered container capable of achieving 50 km/h while moving several tons of your stuff. It will also double as a lamp for late-night crafting, as soon as I get my mechanics to 6 to install solar pannels. My previous character that could do it got killed by a cougar. FML.
As for now, my daily routine looks like that - I spend the day crafting, reading and boiling water from the toilet to make it drinkable, at night I sneak out to grab a bit of this and a bit of that or go for a ride to the forest.
As soon as I learn how to craft some better crossbows I will leave the town for some time, my food stocks are running thin and I don’t want to risk venturing further into the city - too many cougars around here. Plus all the snacks that I find to next to nothing to reduce my hunger meter, and that’s sad.
BTW this game is amazing.
Just one suggestion.
Scavenge a bunch of rocks.
Fireplaces help.
