We try not to joke about religion here.
That sounds like fun, but I think that you need a special trait and it makes N.P.C.s awkward around you regardlessā¦
Wait, where are we mounting animals again? Walls? Vehicle hoods?
Man, I would totally tie a squirrel on my motorcycle headlight, with cute tiny ropes. Its fluffy tail would immediately slap against its terrified little face as Iād speed down the highway 100km/h.
We try not to joke about religion here.
Can I joke about Ancient Roman or Ancient Egyptian religions either, or are those off limits too?
Iām surprised in spite of that, gallows humor about reanimated corpses and the end of humanity is the main shtick around these parts anyway.
We care about relgious feelings here? I didn t notice.
And i think the sign idea is acually good .

Donāt be a smartass, just donāt joke about stuff that could be offensive to people. See the note in bold text here: http://www.wiki.cataclysmdda.com/index.php?title=Spritual and here https://github.com/CleverRaven/Cataclysm-DDA/pull/10776 and remember we donāt do discrimination etc here on CDDA. No matter what you think about it, just donāt do it here. I personally donāt take offense, and can be quite the shitlord in private, but just donāt do it here.
And just see it as an FYI. Iām not a mod. Iām just saying there is a certain expected standard of behavior here on the forums, (and other CDDA places).
The community is already small enough, lets not be assholes to people who have a different way of living from ours. (There are other places for that, twitter for example ).
There are enough stuff we can make jokes about if we just leave out joking about things that are very likely to cause offense (sexuality, religion, race, gender identity, etc).
Edited in not. Typo my bad.
Donāt you think thereās a operational difference between criticizing an idealogy and criticizing the person who adheres to it?
Does this mean weāre not allowed to make fun of things like communism because someone probably worships it as their religion somewhere? (And some people actually do)
On topic: Suggestion: Load Flamethrower with water, for putting out zombies and knocking down fires
Like religious people?
In seriousness though, the original joke was pretty harmless and was a religious joke, not a joke about religion, and the last time there was a big debate over something like this, it ended up being much more harmful to the community than that particular post. Anyway.
Waterthrowers arenāt actually a terrible suggestion. Few times I would have loved to been able to put something out from a ways away without having to use my car.
Water cannons already exist, but are a separate turret from flamethrowers.
An option to mount a flamethrower as a waterthrower would require making rivtech flamethrowers use same amount of fuel as regular ones.
Which is actually a good idea now that flamethrowers no longer produce the explosion at the target, meaning rivtech throwers using 5 times less fuel no longer makes sense.
Having flamethrowers use both flames and water without remounting it is not possible.
The phrasing on my post was the humor!
Though, we do currently have fire extinguishers for putting out fires. Maybe we could give them a less limited range like a ranged weapon, with larger ones giving even more range? (Think at least being able to hit one side of the sidewalk from the other side.)
And craftable makeshift extinguishers which use water or scavenged fire retardant.
That was good ideas though, i need to toss in bad ideas!
Suggestion: With high enough electronics skill, you can retool thr Atomic Vibrator to do this to zombies at melee range:

Added the missing ānotā btw.
But yeah, we try to be tolerant here. And it was pretty clear that the religious updates were trying to be inclusive. Starting jokes (however minor) about religion will just escalate quickly. That is why I friendly asked to not do that. I would do the same with jokes about furries or gay people or transgender people. (which are also stuff people joke a lot about, which people can find very personally hurtful). And the last time it escalated because people on both sides (imho) were quick on the trigger. I cannot see what is wrong with a simple āhey guys, donāt do that here pleaseā.
And that you consider it a joke, or a minor joke is one of the things that indeed caused the problem in the past. Same as saying āthats gayā or ādonāt act like a bitchā can be a joke to many. But the consensus by the mods in the past was, we donāt do that here.
How is not making jokes about religion, or religious jokes (which a lot of religious people donāt like (not all of them of course, but same with using āgayā as a derogatory statement)) so hard? (And yes, making jokes about atheists is just as cringy).
Second time. Donāt do this. Donāt move the goalpost. Donāt be a smartass, you know what I mean. Donāt act stupid. Please. That is insulting. It was not about criticizing anything.
Also remember that your first post, when read wrong, (I know it wasnāt intended like that btw) said we should post christianity-related puns, outside mosques and temples. Now you go on about criticizing ideologies? I know this is not your intent btw. But realize this goes downhill very fast. And my only remark was āWe try not to joke about religion here.ā
āHey guys, lets notā seems simple enough.
[off topic]
By that logic we canāt joke about anything because someone might be offended by it, we canāt even talk about anything at all, because someone who is offended by opinions different from their own, even stated as an opinion might be offended. I think it should be amended to anything that might reasonably offend someone. By this definition the original joke was well within acceptable range. The church I drive by everyday does this (both sides of their sign) on a monthly+ basis, things like:
[On Topic]
Church Signs
We are souler powered by the son.
If you do not eat the bread of god you are toast.
God answers knee-mail
The best vitamin for a Christian is B1
Donāt give up. Moses was once a basket case
Forbidden fruit creates many jams
Read the Bible, itāll scare the hell out of you
Wrinkled with burdens? Come to Jesus for a faith lift
etcā¦
Nothing that would reasonably offend anyone that attends any church, unless they are an unreasonable person.
It is not uncommon for churches to do this.
Also remember that your first post, when read wrong, (I know it wasn't intended like that btw) said we should post christianity-related puns, outside mosques and temples. Now you go on about criticizing ideologies? I know this is not your intent btw. But realize this goes downhill very fast. And my only remark was "We try not to joke about religion here."The original quote? You interpreted it correctly. You do know what thread this is, right?

... communism ...
Second time. Don't do this. Don't move the goalpost. Don't be a smartass, you know what I mean. Don't act stupid. Please. That is insulting. It was not about criticizing anything.
Moving goalposts? I'm not convinced that religious faith over a scripture or teaching and religious faith over ideologies are all that different. If one is off limit for any humor, shouldn't the other be, as well?
Either way, the game itself makes both ideological jokes (those damn commies!) and religious jokes (the specific presence of blank bodies and other sorts of abominations beneath churches, weed you can roll up with bible pages, hell, even the well-mannered humor in the professions menu)
Those are some amusing lines though!
I actually see that working ingameā¦ Which means that itās in the wrong thread! Because itās a good idea.
Bad idea time: You can train your base stats in different ways. Crunching soda cans against your forehead trains strength, one point for every can crushed, running over traps improves dexterity based on how dangerous the trap is, if you survive. Perception is trained by hitting enemies with a firearm while blindfolded, and intelligence is trained by filling out Sudoku puzzles you find in the wasteland. You can instantly gain max intelligence if you Commit Sudoku by stabbing a katana through 15 sudoku puzzles at once.
I always thought that committing sudoku would involve paper-cuts.
On consideration, if anything were objectively offensive as a subject of jest, I would expect it to be suicideā¦
I mean, I generally feel the āyoāmummaā jokes are harmless because everyone knows that they are completely fictitious, it is all just a game of being creative with insults and there are no real targets. But I fancy that if someoneās mother had just died from anorexia or similar conditions then the humour would be difficult to appreciateā¦ Really, there is no such thing as a āsafeā subject for offence, and I find myself extremely dubious of the āI am allowed to mock my own groupā defence too. What it comes down to is that we all need some measure of tolerance, of both convictions and mocking of those convictionsā¦
Can we have point-defence helms? I want to be able to shoot down incoming nukes automatically.

I cannot see what is wrong with a simple āhey guys, donāt do that here pleaseā.
Nothing at all. And worded politely, such as I think it was, thereās nothing wrong with a simple āWell, I disagreeā.
And that you consider it a joke, or a minor joke is one of the things that indeed caused the problem in the past.
I personally donāt think thatās what caused the problem in the past, but thereās not really much point dragging that all back up.
A little thicker skin, as well as a little more sensitivity, depending which side of the debate youāre on, would go a long ways to keeping this place from devolving into Cataclysmic Drama Days Ahead once a year. Thereās a reason this community is small. Tolerance shouldnāt just imply that weāre accepting of all people, so long as they only embrace one particular world view. What seems more welcoming, a mildly sensitive joke people either ignored or found amusing and that no one took to be a personal attack, or someone accusing people of intolerance where none was intended? Which resulted in a potential argument, or the implication that someone was being stupid?
If you were somehow personally offended by that post, then Iām pretty sure youād have no trouble getting an apology from the person who made it. Iād like to think weāre all fairly decent people here.
Anyway, think weāve all replied and debated now, so it doesnāt seem like thereās much more point to me continuing with this topic.
For the sake of realism, doing Sudoku puzzles should only make you think your intelligence is being raised, while actually lowering your perception.
Your intelligence stat continues to be used as is, until you try to use it for something post-threshold of your current ability, and current apparent ability, which causes you to realize Sudoku didnāt raise your stat, and causes a massive moral drop āNot smarter than Rocket Scientistā and āDidnāt see obviousā Also causes Zatman (zombie Batman) to spawn in and slap you across the face with an important sloganā¦ Or just yelling at you to stop feeling sorry for yourself, after slapping you.
