Tips, Tricks, and Newb Questions!

Ok so I just did a test and it turns that adding the reload one tag to a magazine makes it so that you reload one round at a time for the magazine both in your inventory and while said magazine. For me it means I can make a mod for myself that gives the pneumatic assault rifle and bolt driver magazines that allow them to retain their essential reload one tag even while the magazine is loaded basically allowing the weapon to act as normal. The only thing that I discovered about this is that if a weapon that accepts a magazine and the magazine does not have the reload one tag but the gun does the gun does not take on those properties when a magazine is loaded unfortunately.

Is there some penalty for extended living underground?I play with Pk mode and after soem time living undergound my character would get nausea through the day while being undergoudn and not on surface-it stopped when i relocated in church in vicinity,It may be radiation but i didnt get stat loss nor did my companion who lived with me down complained like it usaulyy happen whne we are lving on irradiated grounds and catch radiation .Reason i think it may be underground and not just mutation is this mutation description-http://cddawiki.chezzo.com/cdda_wiki/index.php?title=Subterranean_Fortitude

Is there a way to set aimed shots as the default firing mode?

Like, my survivor uses guns most of the time. When facing off a horde, I’ll press f to go to the firing mode, then press c or p for a careful or precise aimed shot. Is it possible to set careful aim as the default, so all I have to do is just mash c for an easier time?

that is actually possible. While aiming press m and it will change you default firing mode from regular to careful to precision and I believe it will stay that way until you change it. You character still has to do the aiming though, so bear that in mind.

You’re right, I just did a lab challenge and was able to climb out no problem. I had z-levels on, but not the align up/down stairs one.

Can someone point be at a vehicle construction guide? I’ve played for over a year and this run is really the first time I’ve ever done more than just patch up a car temporarily. Thanks!

Maybe these threads could help?

I usually just add on to an existing vehicle I find, though.

Yeah unless you are trying to get some sort of base power infrastructure going I usually don’t start building my own vehichles.
Or if you intend to build like say a folding shopping cart or some other folding vehichle that you can take out when you don’t want your mobile base in the crossfire.
Actually a question if a folding vehicle has a battery charge does it retain it while folded?

Yes, but unless it has changed recently, there’s no interface to view or use it in until you unfold it again.

Was more worried that if I made a battery cart for a character who had the cable charging system that I may need to recharge it every time I unfold but yay.

Doesn’t seem to work. Pressing m to set it to precise aim will fire a precise aim shot, but the following shots are fire immediately.

Both were helpful, thanks!

How can you make a nomad character with 6str stay alive for more than a year?

I just like around two dozen already.

Any other rules that we need to know about because 6 strength REALLY. But then again I kinda hoard a ton of shit on my character so again I don’t know how you are running this.

It has to be carts. w/ wheels and vehicles of other sorts. Possibly even a small armada of slowly evolving and specializing vehicles.

Just that I try to get moving in a week’s time.

So far I try to refit a bicycle, haven’t lived long enough to make a car or find a car that is in good enough conditions to drive it.

A cart is step one, you can build it up into a bike once you have the parts. Try remember to label vehicles by what keeps them from running. Then once you have the mech skill, steal everything from vehicles not worth trying to fix to train skill further (if you don’t have more productive things to do)

If you find one that is a simple fix (needs just a seat, just some fuel, just a battery, just a tire etc…) Mark it with the “remember this vehciles position” This is especially helpful for your own vehicles in case you have to abandon them somewhere temporarilly to get away from a horde or some such.

On a side note. Don’t forget you can craft plastic chunks > bowls > plastic molds to allow for wide variety of container crafting from plastic bottles to Gallon jugs which 4xjug+ string = plastic jerrycan. These can be useful for the transportation of fuels, as well as good hands free/ no touch funnel/water reservoir for crafting until you get into actual tanks and metal crafting.

Fuc, I forgot you could do that.
