Tips, Tricks, and Newb Questions!

Hello!
I’ve returned to the game to try and understand it, and I must admit that i’ve a lot of question.
First of all: Why I am so encumbered? My character is only wearing a winter coat and 2.5L canteen on its torso and i’ve got an encumberance of 2+1, so a malus of 3 on all my melee attacks. What am I doing wrong? Should i fight in a t-shirt? It’s snowing outside.
I suppose that i should try to design some new clothes, but i don’t know which one are worth it.
I’m really puzzled :expressionless:

That amount of encumbered should not really slow you down in combat if you are skilled enough.

So it’s really about the skills? I use a knife spear and i have 2 in melee and 1 in piercing weapons. I gather that i’ll have to accept the penalties and go through them?
Should i train on wildlife before approaching zombies then?

Hello! I've returned to the game to try and understand it, and I must admit that i've a lot of question. First of all: Why I am so encumbered? winter coat is really encumbering. If you can get your tailoring up, or just find something good, try to replace the quality of winter coat with quantity in layers of other clothing. Try to refrain from stacking on the same layer, but undershirt, long sleeve shirt, hoodie, and a duster or other outerwear should bring you better stats with negligible difference or better in encomberace, depending on the clothes you use.[quote author=multimark

I would also recommend switching over to experimental, and moving your save file over. The granular encumbrance is really nice, it now has improved UI and all kinds of amazing features.

The only part of torso encumbrance that can’t be offset by skills is the speed penalty.

Guess I should not have worded it like that, I did not meant actual speed but combat ability.

Maybe. Though speed helps a lot when you’re in combat.

I never actually bothered with encumbrance before until recently but always managed well so I have no idea in clothing balance.

Under 40 is my rule of thimb for combat, but after you achieve competency and can do day raids in the city you can strap on more safely.

I try to carry an extra rucksack or duffel bag on my person so I can fight better and still have the capacity to carry things.

Remember, you can always take more off in combat, cant really put more on. And since acid doesnt destroy stuff any longer you dont need to fear zoms destroying your stuff.

Right. I tend to try and stick at level 3 encumbrance or less. So basically under 40 as well. o3o

Well thanks for the answers guys. I tried launching the latest experimental (windows, tiles) but it refuses to launch itself on my windows seven x64.
Do you know which expermental is the most stable?

Also, is it shown if a funel is full when you examine it? Because mine has been outside for quite a while now and it’s still empty.

Hmm. Do you have Avast, and has it been a while since you last checked it for updates? There was a recurring problem not long ago where the game wouldn’t start until about a minute on your very first run of it, due to Avast deepscreening it. And of course trying to open it again while it was preparing to screen it would make things worse until you restart.

…funnels are funnels… they don’t contain anything. They allow containers placed in the same tile as them to gather water (automatically switches container when current is full) But make sure to (a)ctivate the funnel not just (d)rop it.

I am running C. 4036 windows tile experimental ported over through wineskin on my mac right now. No troubles so far.

Yes i have Avast, thanks for the advice.

As for the funnel, i really didn’t know what they were. I have to admit that english isn’t my native language and while the game is translated in french, playing in french doesn’t allow me to communicate with you guys easily about the game (and on using the wiki).
Anyway i’m sorry if my question sounded stupid :frowning:

Ah, it’s fine. Basically, you have to “use” the funnel to place is like a trap, then drop a container underneath it. Then the container will fill in the rain. ^^"

Oh ok. Sorry if I came across as overly condescending. Non native English speaking is definitely a viable reason for not understanding funnel. Glad I could help.

Yea. What random dragon sais.

No problem guys, i should also use the online dictionnaries such as oxford more often ^^’.
Can i put more than one container below the funnel?

Also, I updated Avast and everything works fines, thanks.

Putting more than one container should be fine but they will all overall refill more slowly.

iirc they will fill up one at a time, and will automatically change over. Unless it changed since the last time I used them, or I was mistaken.

Haven;t used a funnel in a long time but when I used it, having a full container would slow down filling the rest.
