Okay so heat up a toilet with hot plates and fill bottles with it. Can I also fill up a canteen or jerrycan?

Step 1 here is unnecessary, you can craft using items that are within a few tiles rather than picking them up. I usually light a fire right outside a bathroom window. If you’re standing within a couple tiles of the fire and the toilet you can craft clean water (assuming you have a pot/pan).
This helps a lot with container juggling.

As an alternative you can make/find (check sporting goods stores) a water purifier. [a]ctivate it on your jerry can to clean the whole thing in one go.

The stockpile is located inside the lockers at my starting building. What should I do from here. I am somewhat new so I don’t know how to do things like building a car or base. So what should I do now. And can someone explain to me how to do these ‘next step’ operations.

Explore and amass your stock, I’d say. Find a car or two, maybe build some expansions onto your base, raid some labs and bunkers. Maybe if you’re ballsy enough, head into town and… well, go to town. Clear out buildings left and right, and just pretty much loot everything you can get your grubby little hands on. Hell, I’ve gotten bored enough that I’ve stopped just taking every item out of a house, and I’ve started just stripping the houses clean by deconstructing the furniture as well. Can never have too much firewood.

And if you’re starting to get bored with where you are, take a car, drive off into the sunset, and start expanding your operations. Maybe have a couple of little outposts off in some faraway towns, stocked with the nonperishable supplies you’d need if you’re looking to take a ‘vacation’.

Then go exploring. Preferably after you find a car to stuff all your stuff in.

Yet another quick question (I’m chock full of 'em): Is there any way to bring in (make fit) an item that has already been reinforced? Or, alternatively, is there any way to make a backpack fit? Been going at this thing for half an hour with a sewing kit and a few rags, but all it’s saying to me is that it’s already reinforced, even though I’m trying to adjust it, not reinforce it.

There are things that just cannot be fitted , like utility wests , rucksacks and other container-like clothes.

You cant put stuff in refrigerators or shelves.
To cure an infected wound, raid pharmacies and toilets for Antibiotics.
It is possible to kill jumping spiders but its a bit tough.
