Tips, Tricks, and Newb Questions!

Oh derp. o.O

Not to worry, I stuck a floodlight on the tank roof, added two more cameras and now have 360 degree visibility.

On a related subject though… to add more engines to the tank I need 14 mechanical skill. Is that even possible to get? How should I go about trying?

And where can I actually mount guns? Does it need to effectively be on the driving seat itself in order to use the gun?

It seems I’m allowed to put them on quarterpanels next to the seat but you can’t fire them like that as far as I can tell. Kind of annoying because I wanted to put in multiple choices of gun to use when driving but I can only use the 120mm cannon.

You can only mount a single gun per vehicle tile, pretty much.

As for the engines, that’s the issue with multiple engines, and why I wish I’d stuck with making a big ugly diesel-turbine instead. >.>

But what’s the skill cap? I’m just trying to put in something other than electric motors so I can generate power.

Solar panels alone aren’t great.

pretty sure there is no skill cap, it just gets progresively more impossible to level if I understand correctly.

In a nutshell…yeah. Pretty much just gets harder to level to the point of absurdity. >.<

Is level 14 practical to train or absurd? I suppose I could always cheat it if necessary. Seems pretty silly that I need such a high skill to replace engines that were already in the vehicle…

Would take a while, assuming there’s no cap in place. 11 seems to be the implicit cap by way of recipes only going up to 10.

I found an armored car with a mounted M249 on the hood of the car, but I have no idea how to use it. Should I like move it somewhere else where I can stand?

Assuming you’re using Vehicle Additions Pack, you’ll want to place it elsewhere, yeah.

It takes a good while, but it’s not hard. Keeping your focus high REALLY helps. Easy way to get good training is bash a square with military composite armor (takes level 8 to repair), then repair it. A single good bash does some damage, and any damage is all you need.

If you want to be risky, you can do the same trick with other things, such as upgraded solar panels, which take level 10 to repair (IIRC). Quick and easy way to train.

Apparently animatronic monsters if you have them, they have trouble with going around corners of buildings and such.

Out of curiosity, why are explosives so terrible, and what 40mm should I be using instead of frag to kill anything at all? Vehicle mounted Mk. 19, so range is kind of a concern.

explosives got reworked in experimental recently, and they turned out… well, badly, at the moment. It’s a work in progress, and I’m sure it will be fixed eventually (that’s what experimental is for, eh?).

I generally avoid explosives, anyway, so I can’t help you on the more practical question, sorry.

Oh so that’s why my explosive crossbow bolts are worse than useless.

… Lame.

I hope it gets fixed because I found a completely batshit insane weapon. It’s a .454 casull revolver with an underslung M203 launcher.

Actually, that’s more because they got an extra nerf on top of that with the addition of EXPLOSIVE_SMALL tag.

And yet the explosions aren’t what I’d call small.

In my opinion, considering the amount of gunpowder actually in one of those bolts… i.e. Slightly less than the amount of gunpowder in a single .500 Magnum round, there shouldn’t even be an explosion taking out a large area of the screen.

It should be a very localised effect. More like an armor piercing bolt than a grenade going off.

Strong damage to a single target.

Either that or the bolts should require a lot more gunpowder and have a damage buff. An explosive arrowhead takes 60 gunpowder after all. Still haven’t tried those out.

Is there any advantage to using a firefighter PBA mask over a regular gas mask? Are there any contaminants a PBA mask can handle that the gas mask cannot? Or is a PBA mask just overkill that drains your batteries?

I was wondering about that… I think a PBA mask claims to resist heat but I’m not sure what that really means.

My cargo dimension is apparently only able to hold 14000/1000000 volume for some reason. Any idea how to fix this?
