Tips, Tricks, and Newb Questions!

OK, potentially dumb question time.

How do I train my fabrication from 2 to 5 efficiently?

I’ve been making a fair amount of things already and it’s not exactly increasing rapidly. I can’t use books because I don’t have one that will let me train with it until I hit level 5 fabrication.

One problem is I have essentially zero electronic components in my area…

Right, time to snort an entire line of debug skill cheat and take a look…

sniff:
Easy options at level 2: Wooden fishing spears, fletched small game arrows, jerrypack, copper pot (if using More Survival Tools), survivor mess kit (for added fun, reversible recipe with no consumed resources), bricks (need a kiln), survival marker (also needs fabrication as a SUBskill, what the fuck), quern (need 2 cooking, mechanics, survival), plastic mold, distaff & spindle, stone adze, shortbow (need archery of 1, reversible)…

At 3: Metal crossbow bolt (need archery 3), fletched wooden arrow (need archery 2), fletched field point wooden arrow (need archery 2), arrowhead (archery 1), clogs, bookplate, carding paddles, wooden cart wheel, match head bomb, longbow (needs archery 3, reversible).

At 4: Fletched AND unfletched heavy field point arrow (archery 3), heavy fire-hardened arrows (survival 3), swim goggles, copper axe (with More Survival Tools), lamp oil cooker (oh…), gallon jug (got a plastic mold?), funnel (more molding), toolbox (also need mechanics 3), plastic bottles & small plastic bottles (The Moldening)…
Looks like I need to level up archery then. The available materials for a lot of this stuff aren’t common around here.

… Speaking of cart wheels though… Can wooden wheels be mounted on a SWAT van? Probably can’t do it without a jack anyway but I think it’s all the local broken down SWAT van needs to run.

Edit: OK, levelled up to 3 Archery by shooting a tree. That was fast.

Now I’m curious about the new ammo types in my crafting menu. Ballista bolts? There’s no ballista weapon in the crafting menu…

Oh, and if I batch create an item, do I get less Fabrication skill increase or is it just based on the number of items created?

Fairly certain the amount of skill gain is based on the amount of items being crafted. Either that or the time taken, I’m not sure.

And yeah, swat van can use dinky little cart wheels. You’ll need a jack unless the vehicle is extremely light.

The ballista, meanwhile, is used for the scorpion. It’s a Vehicle Additions Pack item. Not the Skorpion SMG, the Roman-style Scorpion ballista. X3

Well, I just noticed something odd in the latest experimental. I think cupboards etc are respawning items…!?

When I’ve cleared out a room and come back later I see more stuff in the cupboards I’m fairly sure I didn’t miss earlier.

I also just found liquid (no container) stout in a cupboard. I smashed the cupboard and was allowed to drink it off the floor…

So riddle me this; why is the tanto considered to be a sword in the latest experimental when it is a knife in the latest stable?
It is the same size (or smaller) than a combat knife.
Because someone decided that the item’s volume was an indication that it shouldn’t be sheathable, instead of going the sane route and lowering its volume. Since they didn’t catch the combat knife’s volume, that’s what you’d call a PR failure, I’m afraid.

EDIT: Um no, combat knives have 2 volume, tantos have 3. I’m gonna eat you for making me assume there was a fuckup when there isn’t one. :V
Tanto, volume 3, cannot sheathe.
RM42 fighting knife, volume 3, can sheathe.
Survival knife, volume 4, cannot sheathe.

So yeah, bite me. :stuck_out_tongue:
Maybe I used the wrong example (different volume/same weight), there’s still a fuckup given the RM42.

Maybe some of that volume on the one you CAN sheathe is a long handle which doesn’t need to fit into the sheath.

Tantos are closer to a short sword rather then a knife but eh… details… to much fussing over the details.

Here a question i been wondering…but is it me or are laser sights… completely useless? (as there 3 versions of them… on the sight… underbarrel and on the rail…)…they seem to have no effect on anything unless it natural sight range is 150

and how does 0 aim speed work…

(wondering if the bow sights or the underbarrel laser would help somewhat)

welp… seems the game dosn’t check if you change your sights by removing a mod but without doing anything else

in that case the tantō and futurelized combat knife would be inverted…though this is going by the only one i ever saw in a museum and i would guess a future combat knife wouldn’t have any extra length on the handle…

(i wonder if it be a bad suggestion to say blades should have randomized lengths akin to engines that somewhat effect there damage, weight and maybe may add or knock off a point of volume…)

(To Post below me, due to double posting)… Laser guns | Repeating crossbows > Bow> Crossbow > Shotguns > every over firearm
(the pneumatic weapons need a nerf…and i think the repeating crossbow shouldn’t work like they do, burst make no sense… and you don’t really reload them one by one either…)

So… does anyone actually prefer crossbows over bows? They seem to be just generally crappier. Unless you have a repeating crossbow I suppose.

wanna raise mechanics swiftly, find a stethiscope and try and crack a safe it will raise your mechanics to 3 in a day or so.

A wakizashi I can see being a shortsword, but the tanto…this is questionable.

The derptaatic Rivtech knife being sheathable while the tanto isn’t though, I smell a PR fuckup. :V

OK, will someone please explain this insanity? At Fabrication 3 you can craft fletched wooden arrows with metal heads. They do 10 damage.

At Fabrication 4 you can craft metal arrows and “heavy” wooden arrows with fletchings, but only the fire hardened ones.

I assume fire hardening is like a crappy version of an arrow head.

Anyway, every single one of the Fabrication 4 arrows you can make is worse than the basic fletched wooden arrow you can make at Fabrication 3.

There’s no reason to be making the others except to grind the skill.

I assume at an even higher level you can make metal head heavy wooden arrows? How about metal headed metal arrows?

Add fletchery to the list of drunkenly-designed features… =w=

I think they are the best arrows,

…the arrows could use some cleaning up… like remove all the combat stats off the unfetched now you cant use them, and why is fetching still under ammo. and how are arrow heads unrecoverable?

Is the “camera” any use except for dismantling? I assumed not but then I noticed you can activate it.

Can be installed on a vehicle. If you then add some camera controls to your driver’s position, they can be used to view blindspots.

EDIT: [Derping Intensifies]

role playing if anything… can save a list of creatures you take a pic of… and i think it can blind/stun any with eyes (excluding Zs)

ps. breathers have heads… so i guess the 99 multi isn’t working on vorpal… counting it such a secret…

Oh. OH.

Wrong camera. ;A;

Smoky Bear and Shia LaBeouf?

WHAT?!

In other news, I love bows, it turns out. I just made the reflex recurve bow and covered it with mods.

I made it out of the bones of a nice lady who I traded medicine with and who was seemingly a nurse heading off to find people to help… And died off screen.

I totally did this to honour her memory and definitely not because I couldn’t find any vertebrate animals.

Yes…
