Thanks. Pity you can’t strip young trees / shrubs for them using a knife. Also I got a Remington shotgun off a dead zombie and tried making it into a sawn-off. Caused a game crash unfortunately :(. Common issue ?

This isn’t really the place for my question, but I didn’t want to start a new thread. Is there a place that shows me the changelog for nightly builds?

https://github.com/CleverRaven/Cataclysm-DDA/commits/master

Also about once every week or so the main changelog file gets updated to include the important things, but the commit log (as linked by Slax) works best in most cases.

I’m building myself a vehicle from scratch, and I placed a seat and controls on a frame. Now, whenever I examine my vehicle it just gives me the menu about cruise control. I can’t seem to examine the vehicle anymore, any way for me to continue building? I’m assuming this is a bug, or rather, an overlooked mistake.

They’re working on the interface–one of the upgrades IIRC was letting players build seatless-controls for things like turrets or light posts. Probably a good thing you mentioned this, though–you’ve found a bit of a dealbreaker there.

So far I have been using archery to great effect. Makes taking normal zombies down easy. Though zombie dogs are a major issue when they show up. Any tips on how to survive them better?

KA101 maybe a simple solution would be to add an option to the controls window (or whatever the headlight/turret/exc. window is called) that opens the normal vehical window… and make it so you can’t access that option while driving. Or at least not add/fix/remove parts while driving.

Can you feed dogs or cats with the food?

You can feed dogs with dog food, and I think they become friendly or something. Not exactly sure. You can also use a dog whistle (extremely rare) to make dogs start attacking zombies and stop attacking zombies.

what about cats? Can you feed the cats somehow?

Every thime i try to activate the cat food i just eat it. :frowning:

Not really sure. Maybe it isnt even fully implemented yet. Cant find anything on the wiki.

Not sure. I haven’t had cat food on me as and when I find them. Would be a nifty pal to have. Boosting your morale passively say when you spend time around it. Massive drop in it if they die based on how long you befriended the cat would be a cool gameplay mechanic.

Also things i have found out the hard way.

When you start, Make a point of finding a sleeping bag and rollmat. This will make sleeping on the move much more practical and let you sleep uninterrupted by cold so much. if you activate the rollmat it can be deployed on the floor for sleeping on. Wearing the sleeping bag whilst sleeping on it is a great combination for getting your character well rested and ready to fight next day.

Mechanics skilled up with archery will let you make crossbow bolts as well. This is a major help I find.

making a slingshot is a great way to easily get your firearms and archery to 2 by day 2/ end of day 1. Just make 100-150 pebbles and go practice on rabbits and squirrels. butcher any you manage to kill and enjoy the easy xp. Then you can make yourself a longbow once you hit 2 archery. Which is amazing for killing zombies and wildlife alike with.

Probably your archery skill is a bit low? A bow with archery 6 is very easy to get on week 1. I don’t see what a problem there might be with the dogs, or anything else unarmored. Everything just dies in 1-2 shots. Try to kite them onto something, that slows them down, if you need more time to shoot all the targets.

Archery 5 at the time. Just some shit luck and bad positioning I guess.

Right now cat food can’t be used to befriend cats, probably because cat food existed in the game long before cats did. It certainly seems a simple enough addition to do, since the code is virtually the same as that for dog food.

Luck can give you lemons in this game for sure. Everyone had THAT bear or landmine or whatever.

This is terrible advice, especially in a newb thread! Why waste an entire day, especially that early in the game, when a single point at character generation will start us with archery:2? Then, we only need survival:1 to craft a longbow. Which is easier? Raising a skill by 1 or 2? The day would be better spent finding clean water, foraging for food and essential supplies. By the end of day 1, we should have enough clean water and food for 1-2 days.

THAT bear, definitely, but not THAT landmine. My characters get a very high Perception, which not only skyrockets my ranged attacks with bows and firearms, but guarantees that I’ll always spot those buried bear traps and landmines long before I get close enough to step on them.
