Tips, Tricks, and Newb Questions!

Searched a few times but maybe I’m doing it wrong -

What can I do about influenza? It seems to stick around for days. I know of one thing that will get rid of it instantly (not sure what spoiler policy is on this sorta thing so I’ll leave it at that) but I was wondering if there is any sort of general medicine that works to get rid of it? Dayquil helps to alleviate symptoms but doesn’t seem to wipe it out…

Just ride it out, IRL that’s what you have to do. Antiobiotics don’t work on viruses like the flu or the cold.

Chugging vitamins helps.

Normal medicine can alleviate flu symptoms, but the only cures for the disease itself are time (it lasts between 2.7 - 5.5 days) or

royal jelly.

Edit: Dang Ninja! :stuck_out_tongue:

damn flu is OP  i’d rather have opiates withdrawals

The flu starts kicking your ass once you get older in real life.
Cherish your youth, kid.

How do I get into military outposts? Whenever I even get close the turrets all shoot me down and I then die…

Destroy the turrets. Don’t use melee. Try EMP grenades or a long range rifle. You can also use cover of night if you want - turrets only have standard optics and can’t fire on you if you aren’t either in the light or adjacent to them. Night vision makes destroying them trivial. Getting in range with your flashlight off, then turning it on immediately before you fire can also work, albeit with some risk.

Well, if your Throwing isn’t up to spec it may take a dozen or two Rocks to kill the first turret, and depending on how the structure is laid out it may be difficult to get within 7 tiles of your first target. But yeah, night attacks are the way to go.

Kind of a dumb question, but: how do you get palisade gates to work properly? I built a ring of log walls around the entrance to my cave, leaving one tile open. Then I built the palisade gate, and then built a rope and pulley system one tile next to it.

When I examine the rope and pulley, it asks me if I want to use it. If I hit Y, it says “The gate swings open!”–only nothing actually happens.

Am I missing a step here, or is it bugged?

edit: Figured it out. The gate needs to be flanked on either side with Palisades–log walls don’t cut it. There should probably be an error message signifying this.

Thank you ill try that and to make a bow I would need and axe to chop down trees to get all supplies or where would I acquire the supplies to make one? Thanks and when I try firing a gun with the default “fire wielded weapon: f” key it doesn’t work so I ended up trying to defend myself by throwing it… Is this something that I did wrong or a bug in 0.5?

Bows can be made with level 2 archery from a heavy stick and 2 3ft strings. These can be gained from picking up a stick and smashing a domestic window or two to get the string (alternatively if you have high survival you can use sinew instead).

As for the gun problem, have you actually loaded the guns? Most guns come empty so you will need to select them and then ®eload them with appropriate ammo before you can shoot them.

I had multiple guns but the one I was wielding said “.45 ASP (50)” thus I thought the fifty meant it was loaded I then unloaded it and reloaded it. Maybe it was wrong on my part maybe not. The next time I find a gun I will redo this process and see if I succeed. And where can I acquire sinew?

The 50 indeed meant that it had that much ammo.

Sinew may be found when you are butchering corpses. The higher your survival skill and the larger the corpse, the bigger chance you have to getting some and the total amount you can get increases.

Hello there. Found this awesome game and am playing the latest nightly build. I was wondering. I have found a dog on my travels. Can I befriend it and use it as a travelling companion? Thanks for taking the time.

If you find some dog food you can give it to him and befriend him. But to be honest I’ve no idea where to find dog food, I don’t think I’ve personally ever seen it in game.

You can also get friendly goo piles  (Goo Canisters)

Brilliant! I found if you lure zombies near dogs they will help you kill the zombies to. Now to go a looting and try survive more than a few days.

I get a: The Lone Wanderer feel from dog companions.

I concur, I’d like the ability to name pets haha.

Huh, I didn’t know dogs would fight for you. Learn something new everyday on these forums!

With a high cooking skill (I think it was level 4) you can make dog food from wild vegetables and chunks of meat.
I had multiple guns but the one I was wielding said “.45 ASP (50)” thus I thought the fifty meant it was loaded.
You were probably wielding the ammo box as a weapon. Ammo boxes can’t shoot the rounds out of them.

Unwield your .45 ACP and check your inventory. Take a look at your “Firearms” section, and wield a .45 pistol. THEN hit ‘r’ to reload that pistol with .45 ACP. That might work better.
