Braziers can be deactivated and placed in your inventory when you pack up and leave. Plus they take fewer mats than wood stoves.
I gathered up the courage to try out the wood stove and I noticed it doesn’t produce as much smoke as the brazier which is really nice.
Does having a roof on your car not stop you from getting wet?
To stay dry when driving you need all the N/S/E/W tiles surrounding need to have either an intact board, closed door, windshield or another roofed frame otherwise you’ll get soaked.
So my guess is that you are driving with the door open or something.
How do I survive past the first few hours?
Whenever I start a new character (on a newly genned world), I try to beehive for a gun store.
But there’s always just too many zombies already, I keep getting swarmed before I can reach any building.

Easy solution: Go to options and change to dynamic spawn instead of static. You’ll have until 9:30am until zombies start spawning (except those special spawns at hospitals, megastores and parks.)
Real solution: Don’t use guns. Don’t fight, think.
Seriously, you don’t need them. Yes, they are a very nice addition to any arsenal, but they’re not essential to survival. Resort to crafting spears and throwing them. recover spears, rinse, repeat. Try running a survivalist character. raid some outlying houses, maybe a clothing store and military surplus, grab some books and then go Bear Grylls style into the wilderness. There are plenty of hideouts far enough from city centers. gas stations along long roads, LMOE shelters, forest cabins, farms…
Hell, some people even craft bows, although I find that less manly than bashing brains out with a crowbar on principle, but still.
The crafting system is so crazy as long as you survive the first day with a few books and essentials you become some kinda post-apoc demigod-tier PC.
Crowbar? check.
Molotovs? check.
Coilgun in the 50 watt range? Double check.
Flamethrower? I mean come on, do you really need to ask?
How do you actually use a vacuum sealer? Whenever I try [a]ctivating it, I just get the “you can’t do anything interesting” message. Thanks!
It’s automatically used from the crafting menu when you make vacuum-sealed food.
Where can I easily get a rubber hose?
I want to make a slingshot so i can train my archery, but Rubber hoses are far to few for my liking.
I know some stores have them (electronic or hardware idk), but only rarely. Is there anything that you can disassemble to get one?
In the newer dev builds you can get a rubber hose from smashing a refrigerator.
You can also disassemble a crossbow for one, if you happen to have a wrench and screwdriver. Of course, if you’re trying to train your archery, you might as well just use the crossbow.
question, is there a way to fix broken computer consoles?
Nope. If you want to get through a door just go make some pipebombs and blow the thing wide open.
When going through a forest use 7-9 or 1-3 depending to where you go if you click one after another you will almost never get stuck
Newb question:
There’s this feral dog that has been following me around. It’s not hostile, just tracking, but it follows me everywhere.
Can I feed it or do something to make it friendly?
If you have dog food you can (a)ctivate it on the dog to make it friendly.
Cool! Think I’ll name him Dog Meat. Do I have to feed it regularly, or is once enough?
IIRC once is enough to shift him to friendly.
How do I close the shutters on windows? I’ve seen people do it, but when I press “E” towards the window it just says “that is a window” and leaves me feeling [insert generic word lowering my intelligence].
With the ©lose command. Do note that it only works on domestic windows though, so the windows in most shops won’t close the curtains.
