Tips, Tricks, and Newb Questions!

All hail the moose. owo
1. Can you hot-wire a car with a screwdriver? I sure couldn’t figure out how.

 1. Did we change how arrows work? I can no longer fire unfletched arrows, but the thing is, I have 3 Archery, Fabrication, and Survival but Fletched arrows arn’t showing up as a crafting option.

Also I still think Moose are OP with the introduction of in-fighting. It’s my fault for choosing not to delete them out of my game, but still.
1. Yes. If a car has a functioning security system, and if you try to start the car normally, the game sometimes (if not always) asks if you want to hotwire the car. You don’t actually apply the screwdriver manually. The message you get is something like “This car doesn’t seem to have keys. Try hotwiring?”

 2. That’s odd. I’m on version 3227, and I vaguely recall I had a similar problem but I think I got arrow crafting recipes when I got archery to 3. I trained my archery skill with a crossbow. Maybe save and restart the game? A remote possibility is that you actually have to learn the arrow recipes from books. If injustice continues, resort to debugging and give yourself some justified arrow recipes. And no, you can’t fire unfletched arrows. Crossbow bolts don’t have fletching in CDDA though.

The moose are glorious delicious beasts and the more you delete them from the game files, the stronger and meaner they come back the next time you update the game (disclaimer: not true… probably). I’m surprised your monitor isn’t growing antlers by now. You should celebrate every time you get annihilated by a moose, just as you should celebrate when you manage to kill a moose yourself. It’s a great honor either way.

Which skill determines your chance of repairing something with a soldering iron? Mechanic or Fabrication?

Mechanics, if I recall. o.o

seems to depend on the thing you’re repairing.

How exactly does the fast learner trait work? Is it worth it?

Folks. I’ve met my first (maybe second) chicken walker and it did not attack me.
Granted, I was doing ~100kph whilst passing by it. But still.
Could the fact that I was driving the Humvee influence its ‘decision’ not to shoot?

Oh, and how do I make war with turrets on my car? I tried turning them on from the vehicle control menu. It then says something about turrets being ‘set to inactive’. On ‘Configure turrets manually’ it gives just some sort of screen with <(q) finish>, that is completely uninformative.

One thing I’ve just thought about is apparent lack of ammunition for turrets.

If I recall the wiki’s statement, it’s the equivalent to having 15 extra focus, which is…in the long run, helpful but not very noticeable in the short term. Good trait to pick if you’re illiterate, otherwise fast reader is better for the most immediate boost to skill gains, depending on the books you encounter.

browsing through the uncompiled version for the first time

Fast learner is indeed +15 focus and fast reader is 20% increased reading speed
also good memory has the effect of reducing skillrust by 33%
I’ll prob spare the harsh spoilers next time ( also no idea if i’m reading it right )

some brain-candy, Wouldn’t the optimist trait shun them all in the long term?

Can be made noticeable in the short term too.
Look at a typical low-level combat encounter: dude in light armor runs around using light weapons to damage the zeds, then immediately disengages before they get a hit and repeats the process one turn later.
Due to high number of attacks, this results in focus dropping quickly. When focus hits 30, Fast Learner results in +50% of effective xp gains.

Not very noticeable if you’re playing with pred zeds and hulks from the start or on fast zombies, but on something easy like 3.0 spawn mundane zombies, fast learner can easily get you more than 50% of all xp you gain.

Hmm. Will need to muck about with other things that might affect focus. In any case, the tentacles of enlightenment are enlightening again. o3o

So, if I kill an ant queen, the spawning of ants in the area should stop, right? What if I encounter an ant tunnel that had no queen ant chamber. Dug through an ant tunnel that was too small and had no queen ant, and the ant population above ground, and on a nearby lab is still around. That some sort of bug?

Would it be possible to add subsystems into armour making your very own Ironman.(or frame)
Mostly wondering if the system could support armours with cbms installed into them and havin their own power supply?
If we can install cbms into people then surely we must have been able to wire them into suits of armour before that.

I prefer Fast Learner over Fast Reader simply because when I start to read books, I do it en masse, which means I have stockpiles of food and water, I’m at a remote location and I’ll have all the time in the world. Most other activites however are only doable on limited occasions, which is why it’s important to extract as much out of those situations as possible. Fast Learner also works after you’ve read everything. I suppose the choice boils down to the player’s playstyle and fascinations. Reading books in a game isn’t exactly interesting… But damn those sweet succulent skill points from hands-on experience. Gotta catch them all.

I’ve never seen an ant queen, and I’ve explored at least 4 ant tunnels. Twice, to make sure I mapped out everything. As far as I’m concerned, ant queens are a lie perpetrated by the government. They’re a fairytale perpetrated by parents. They’re spooks that don’t exist, and no one’s going to believe anyone who would claim otherwise. Any screenshots from the game would be labeled as photo manipulations. Any copypastes from the source codes - fabrications. No one’s going to believe you and it’ll drive you mad. Your name will be dragged through mud and your sanity questioned. No, I’m not mad or manic. You’ll just have to take my word for it.

No BeerBeer, you are the queen ants.

And then BeerBeer was a formicidaen. :V

All right, I put some ammo (40 mm fragmentation rounds, to be precise) on the turret (Mk.19 GL) tile. No luck. Still writes about turrets being set to inactive.

And another question: what has just happened to me? An hour or two ago I spotted a fungal tower near the town I was looting. As I had some incendiary grenades and molotovs, I burnt it to the ground (almost). I was a tad clumsy there and let a few fungal tendrils to stab me whilst tossing flames on the tower. All the obvious damage was tended with first aid kits.

An in-game day passes, I’m driving a motorbike on a rather straight road amid the forest. The game nags me with messages about my hands getting cold. The next I know that I have no arms ( ‘:’ for both arm hp bars) and nearly 900 Pain. I do also vomit live spore clouds.

WTF?

damnit xD that’s hilarious, i’m sorry… What i meant was My condolences. Personally i’ve never fall due to the fungal…
Get some anti-fungal medication asap m8, rush to a hospitle and b-line right to the storage area ( top left corner typically )

Fungal infection. Well that and the wind from driving chilling your hands, but your arms erupting into fungus-infested tendrils and coughing up spores is the bigger problem.

And anti-fungal drugs, yes. Best cure is immolation though. :V

Ant queens are, in fact, real. If you’ve explored the entire underground area beneath an anthill, you should find one eventually.

And if you can’t find one, well…see my earlier meme reference. o3o
