Tips, Tricks, and Newb Questions!

Last time I checked craters were barely radioactive. Did something change?

If it contains rebar, it’s probably not artifact site. Plus, it’s 7x7 square.

I think those weird bashed squares are the wrecked tile mapgen extra. It was written with buildings in mind, but then everything (in this case pavement) became bashable, so they started looking weird.

Regular craters are mildly warm. Special artifact craters (very small, artifact in the middle) are hideously radioactive.

Just don’t forget to bring plenty of bolts if you’re artifact-hunting, Stalker. owo

Car ramps. Travel Dukes of Hazzard style, with no concern for safety and other unmanly things. Set one ramp up on the outskirts of one city, build a supercar, and try to fly through one end of the city to the other! In fact, screw planning out a route. Build a really super car, set ramp up, fly and bulldoze your way through buildings!

This isn’t the “bad ideas” thread. owo

Whoa. I was certain that I posted there. Weeeeird.

I’ve derped up like that before, no doubt. Though still not as bad as that one time in the DF forums when I got the official “Wanderer’s Friend” mod thread and the thread for a derivative of it mixed up. >w>

Which traits are worthwhile? It seems most of them are worse than just buying more stats.

I’d say night vision is pretty worthwhile.

yea a night vision and self defence class (ninjutsu) and light steep is good for stealth and little mutation (mutagen nearly allways will turn night vision in high night vision

Self Defense Classes for Krav Maga is also a smart choice. Both that an Ninjutsu are delightful choices.

Night vision could be useful, but how self defense training for 3 points is better than 3 points in strength?

Silent attacks that work with weapons in the case of ninjitsu, or pretty much doubled attack speed for krav maga? o3o

Isn’t melee and unarmed already mostly silent? I never thought to myself “if only my melee attacks were a little bit more silent” instead of “I need more firepower”

I did think that was a derpy benefit, compared to fast strikes. I need to see if the other benefits of ninjutsu are really worth picking over krav maga. owo

Krav Maga is supposed to be a mixe of multiple fighting styles. Wouldnt that it would be better than just Ninjutsu?( I am 2A currently.)

Krav maga as it is in-game is more OP due to that boosted attack speed, the random techniques that occur seem to at least reflect real-world applications of Krav Maga, like disarms and grab breaks.

Ah, I see. On the topic of attack speed; does it depend on strength, or speed? Does it even take those into account?

Ninjitsu gets fast strikes. The silent strikes thing is just gravy (if you’ve also got light step, you can ghost around pretty well in the dark, though, killing zombies 3 steps from other zombies without them noticing, which can be nice). The real reason ninjitsu is stupid awesome and more OP than Krav maga?

Double damage with edged weapons.

Seriously, criting for 200+ damage with a katana, or quick striking for 40-50… yeah, squish. I can stand in open and face a horde of anything but spitters and shockers and kill them as fast as the come. Even hulks, usually (“usually” meaning “usually killing them without taking a hit”). Without bloody moving. In the open. It’s crazy.

Dielectric CBM, a gas mask, a halfway decent edged weapon (machete is sufficient), and the only zombie that gets your attention is the spitter. Nothing else is worth breaking stride for, much less being worried about.

I play on 20X monster spawn, and once the spitters are dead, enormous clumps of zombies are annoying for the tedium of butchering, nothing more. No fear, not even any equipment damage. I’m thinking about restarting without ninjutsu, just because it’s so brokenly overpowered.

If you don’t want to use the points, you can try hoping to find a boxing manual on the boxing gym, or the book of the five rings on a mansion library. Boxing is pretty powerful, but kinda slow I think. The one on the book of the five rings can deal a lot of damage as well, and if you can’t find a katana you can settle with a quarterstaff.
