Questions regarding charcoal production, burning time, skewers, and general wood efficiency.
I’m making charcoal, smoking meat, and keeping a fire going. I have a large amount of smashed wood, some 2x4s, and a forest near enough to makes trips to but not just next door, so I’d like to make my trips efficient.
So, if I’m chopping down a tree, which is more efficient, logs or planks? Also, smashed wood seems to be a lousy way to get skewers, and it doesn’t seem to burn all that long… I haven’t tried making charcoal with it - is that a good use?
(If I was trying to save wood at the expense of time, for skewers, the best thing would be to make clogs then turn the clogs to skewers, as you can turn to bits of wood into 5-10 skewers instead of 0-2… but the time spent on that is HUGE, so it’s not worth it.)
