Tips, Tricks, and Newb Questions!

I really do wish that rope and pulleys worked on more types of doors. As it is, I can’t make a working gate across a street.

One more question from me. What on earth happened to quarterstaffs? They were my primary melee weapon, and now I can’t find the recipe in game, or any mention on the wiki. Any clues?

Recipe requires the ‘medieval content pack’ to be active, bashing skill two, fabrication skill two, and it’s autolearn.

Thanks. Loving the new build by the way

What is the penalty if I don’t have the required strength for a bow, and how severe is it? Does it reduce my rate-of-fire? Accuracy?

hey guys noob question, making a throwing survivor, does perceptions ranged penalty also affect throwing or just dexterity and its thrown to hit bonus

Near as I can tell? It kills the range.

Make a character with strength 4. Now try to fire a bow.

newb question one: does wildlife sense if your character is an easy/hard prey?
I often found myself in situations, when i’d stroll right next to a “ignoring” bear, get LOTS of stuff(which made me encumbered) and suddenly, the bear turns hostile! No animal discord or animal emapthy on this survivor. Oh, and wolves tend to run away or at least keep their distance from my heavily-mutated survivors(even those that don’t have “terryfing” or similar traits).
newb question two: where do i find cults?
newb question three: when i examine my flatbed truck it shows that it has 50% gas, but when i try to refill it the game tells me that the tank is full - what might be the reason? (in case it makes any difference, i repaired lots of things in this car and i might have changed its engine at some point of repairs)

I’ve had that happen to me, so you’re not the only one.

Go looking in for forest for an unmarked, boarded up building. Very hard to find, but look outside of it for stairs when you do.

Either you don’t have enough gas and the container hold the said gas is empty, or the gas tank is leaking an you need to fix it.

Also, Flatbeds have two fuel tanks. That means the fuel gauge goes up slower than a single gas tank.

The container was an almost full jerrycan, as for leakage… i think the gas tank was yellow so that shouldn’t be the case. And i didn’t notice the second fuel tank - maybe filling that one up will fix this.

Snaps fingers There ya go!

Two answers to this:

  1. In your case with the bear, you likely stood too close to it for too long. Most large wild animals (like coyotes, wolves, cougars, bears, and especially moose) don’t like it when you do that and will go hostile; the same thing would have happened to those wolves if you managed to catch up.

  2. If you’re heavily injured, those those normally shy wolves and coyotes will actually beam right at you. So in a sense, that’s how the game tells those animals that you’re easy pickings.

Well, i also had a bear LIVING inside my house ignoring me even if i slept in the same room as him. He got pissed off once when number 2 happened(a stupid dog made me bleed) but a few whacks with a crowbar made him ignore me once again. two days later he left :stuck_out_tongue:
As for strolling past a bear, i went to loot things in a gas station two map tiles away and then went back to the general area where it stood before, so i don’t know if it counts for “standing too close for too long”. Well, at least that magnum got in handy.

It’d be nice if we could tame bears/wolves etc…

taming these bloodthristy demons mooses will make a great army

“Zombie apocalypse? Infectious fungus creatures? Walking plants? Pathetic, for I am the Queen of the Moose!”

But, yes, the moose is by far the biggest offender for aggressive behavior. As an aside, it might help if critters paid attention to each other rather than only on you. Watching a pack of wolves, a deer, a handful of jackrabbits and a cougar frolic together until one of them finally decides to try to eat me is a bit disconcerting.

Sort of. There was an NPC quest line floating around that has to do with investigating holy stuff an junk.
The cult quest is the last quest for the moment on that particular quest line but there WILL be improvments on that front (I “think”).
So either wait for that special NPC, oorrrr find that hidden building.
