Dojos and gyms are reasonably common in my games.

Most large towns have at least 1, some have 2 and I found one with three dojos and a boxing gym once.
Wow. I’ve played about a dozen games now, and I found precisely one dojo in all that time. And I’ve never even seen a gym. I’ve probably explored 50+ towns. I’m playing the current stable release. Is there some reason dojos and gyms are so rare in my games? I’ve found towns with four or more liquor stores, two schools side by side (that was !!fun!!.. having to gobble junk food and chain-smoke non-stop while I murdered dozens of children), piles of gun stores, hordes of electronics and hardware stores, but not a single gym and only one dojo, ever.
You are extremely unlucky my friend, My starting city has 3 dojos, the city to the north has atleast 1 that ive found, never seen a boxing place

You could of drank two bits of the water and then purified it.
That’s what I did. ):

I then got sick and promptly overdosed on codeine.

…WHY DID YOU OD ON CODEINE!!!

The toilet water made me sick.

Don’t worry kid. One day, you’ll be like me! Surviving for +2 years (Standard seasons, but I like to start in winter and 60 day seasons) and having end game gear by the end of second week!

I accidentally pressed the wrong shortcut letter or whatever.

Thrice.

I probably should’ve just used the arrow keys.

Will remember for future reference, though.

Why, in his day, he walked to the apocalypse with no shoes in the winter, uphill both ways, twice, just to get a chunk of tainted meat! You damn newbies don’t appreciate the sacrifices his generation pretends to have made for your welfare!

Those were they days when I liked mutagen, but nevertheless happened.

I refuse to believe this is just bad luck. We’re talking lottery-winning odds here. I’m starting to wonder if this is a bug. I’m playing the stable version, size 4 cities (default size), no NPCs, and classic zombies only. Would any of those be likely to make gyms and dojos disappear?

Try an Experimental. You really are missing out on alot.

Anybody know how to get different types of robots besides copbots? I let the eyeobts take my picture tons of times, but only copbots show up…

I seem to remember that for some reason a lot of them had their spawn locations removed, I’m not sure if any of them but manhacks, copbots, eyebots, and turrets actually spawn anywhere other than defense mode right now.

The nasty ones with guns (grey Rs) still spawn in lab finales and from glitched computer hacks.

Hey guys,
so I recently started playing Cata and have a rather succsessfull character going (survived more than a year). However, I have a few questions*.

Is there any specific reason for building a big, menacing vehicle (besides the coolness factor)? At the moment I’m using a motorbike with a sidecar (on which I mounted a HMG) and I don’t see a reason why a big truck would be more desirable. I’m only using my vehicle as a mean of transport, so I don’t need it as a mobile base.

On the topic of vehicle-mounted weapons, are they necessary//usefull? The MG turret uses up rare ammo, the flamethrower depletes your gas tank and enemies rarely pose a threat to you if you can outrun them. So why should you use them? Related question: do you need to drive the vehicle for them to fire? Or do you just need to switch them on? Could you basically build a autonomous defence turret “vehicle”?

Is the A7 laser rifle a good weapon? It has a really high damage bonus, but it technically doesn’t use “ammo”, so it’s total damage is outclassed by standard rifles. Is this intentionaly to balance the fact that the laser rifle has basically infinite ammo? Or is there anything I’ve overlooked?

Manhacks. How do they work? Can you just activate them and they will become friendly to you and attack your enemies? Can you give them commands or do they just follow you? And how long do they last, once activated?

Thanks in advance for answering this questions.

*which the wiki couldn’t answer. It seems it’s pretty much out of date.

Bigger vehicles can be handy for having always powered tools (mostly food dehydrator and water purifier for me), somewhere to drive from that counts as ‘inside’ incase of acid rain while miles from cover and just flat out more storage. Later game its damn handy to have 5-6 cargo carriers installed on your vehicle so you can lug about half a town worth of stuff. Generally though, a huge vehicle is more a vanity item than actually being useful, 1 or 2 tiles wide is best for being able to navigate past crap on the roads, 4 tiles wide (so normal car size basically) is still semi maneuverable while having decent storage capacity with some modding and being a safe place to be in acid rain. Currently im running a modified pickup (5 tiles wide) with an extra layer of frames and armor on the front as a ram, extra layer of storage at the back and powered tools replacing the back windows. Its got more storage than id ever need, all the powered tools id ever need, 4 fuel tanks and a buttload of storage batts, it is though, just a little to wide, so I often have to ram cars off bridges so I can get past. If you are smart and willing to do without some of the onboard powered tools, normal car size will do you fine.

I have played a little with mounted weapons, but cant make them work, the best ive got is having the laser rifle I mounted on the front of a car target me and beep. Couldnt make the damn things fire at anything (including me though). In the past they have happily targeted the player if he/she/it was in range, so I believe many/all actually dont do anything at all atm besides look cool.

Laser stuff has the advantage of being silent/very quiet as well as ammo being fairly common if you have a UPS, generally though, rifles are less hassle and do more damage. Another good reason to have a vehicle with lots of storage is to keep ALL the ammo you find in one trunk as well as a differnt weapon for each caliber in another, after raiding a few gunstores/basements ammo really isnt a worry.

Manhacks work just as you say, you activate them, they become friendly and attack your enemies till they die. If you can find a goo canister, you can (a)pply it to drop out a friendly blob as well. Both arent that great against Zs as they die too fast to be useful as fighters however they can be damn handy for dealing with fungals.

Due to the game being updated multiple times a day, the wiki is pretty much always going to be out of date. Small price to pay

If this isn’t good enough, I don’t even want to know you.

Joking aside, the sheer usefulness of a mobile collection of trunks is not to be dismissed, and having it be big, menacing, able to defend itself, and able to drive over basically anything makes it much more able to get into places it otherwise could not.

One thing I’d like to see added to vehicles would be the ability to mount a rocket or grenade launcher, then manually use it via vehicle controls to blast stuff out of your way, so you can clear the way without having to stop, get out, and do repairs every time you ram a car out of the way.

I’m putting this in suggestions.

They were built to help most likely. America isn’t the type to suddenly turn to nazis in the face of an other-worldly invasion.

No, and you can’t.
FEMA camps were theoretically intended as evac centers but they also did Experiments there. Like so many other early responses to the Cataclysm, they only me things worse for those involved.

Yeah, unloading to spare plastic bottle would’ve been the way to go there.
