The fingertip razors bionic also helps.
Speaking of mutagens, just how exactly DO you get hold of the “specific” mutagens now?
I could make them before I updated my game version but now the crafting menu only has a generic mutagen and purifier.
Like every other remotely interesting item in the game nowadays, the recipe is now found in a book. Specifically, the lab journals you find on scientist corpses and in labs.
I don’t like how everything requires a book nowadays…
It’s supposed to be part of a transition to a more organic recipe learning system, but I wish there were more sources than just bottlenecking everything to books. Glyphgryph mentioned as much:
Note that this is at least planned. Both reverse engineering to acquire specific recipes and “designing” your own things to acquire survival recipes are stuff we want to be in the game, and it’s been outlined. The moving of recipes to books serves a dual purpose - one: it creates a situation where the implementation of the desired functionality is actively desirable on the part of potential developers who play the game (meaning it is a lot more likely to get done) while also alleviating at least some of the problems with the previous system.
The current work is transitionary - hopefully, it is a transition that will be finished, but I feel it’s already at least a bit better than it was.
Unfortunately, it seems that’s a rather gross overestimation of the creativity of people around here.
Yeah, I mean I can crudely attach feathers to an arrow without any training.
Crudely.
Maybe we can make something similar to the “quality” level of times in Dwarf Fortress.
I am thinking about only two or three levels of quality, to keep it simple.
Taking the fletched arrows example which Ninja talks about:
Having an archery/fabrication level of 0-1 will enable you to make -fletched arrows
Having an archery/fabrication level of 2-4 will enable you to make +fletched arrows
Having an archery/fabrictaion levle of 5+ will enable you to make *fletched arrows
This does not need to apply to every item ingame (pebbles are pebbles, a nail bat is a nail bat - no space for Q-levels there) but forged weapons and similar things should be affected.
Well, how about common sense?
More or less simple items can be crafted without a book recipe but complex things (like CBM’s, Mutagen…) can only be learned through books/terminals.
The thing is apparently ‘complex’ now translates to anything that can’t be created with sticks and stones, and not even that. Right now some people are arguing for table and chair recipes to be put in books. It’s gotten to a frankly insulting point.
Nobody’s arguing for tables and chairs to be put into books, i’m pretty sure.
Still, I think that the quality levels thing that rookie is mentioning is actually a pretty swell idea.
Quality levels eh?
THIS IS A GOLD .700 NITRO EXPRESS BULLET. ALL CRAFTSMANSHIP IS OF THE FINEST QUALITY. THE DECORATION IS ZOMBEAR LEATHER. ON THE .700 NITRO EXPRESS BULLET THERE IS AN IMAGE. IT DEPICTS A WARRIOR AND A SCHOOL FULL OF PALE, BLANK EYED CHILDREN. THE SCHOOL IS ON FIRE. THE CHILDREN ARE ON FIRE. THE WARRIOR HOLDS ALOFT A ZWEIHANDER. THE ZWEIHANDER IS ON FIRE.
I would sig that if it weren’t for the character limit.
I accidentally went to sleep on the floor instead of the bed and now I’m all-over frostbitten. How do I cure it?
Lol, happened to me too. Just sit near a fire for a good while. It would be better/faster if that fire was red.
I just got one-shot-decapitated by a turret again. I really would like to know what’s going on if anyone knows.
(And what to do about it. You can’t dodge/block bullets so that leaves armour as the only defence, which isn’t working)
Haven’t tested it yet, so I’m curious:
How difficult will be to supply yourself with stuff needed for creating ammunition for firearms?
Can I smelt something into lead, craft gunpowder, plug it into shell and be very proud to kill some Zeds with the bullets with some holy incantations on it (imaginary, of course ) ?
Easiest way is to disassemble other ammunition.
You can make gunpowder, and even primers with effort. There was a recipe for lead but it’s probably hidden in an obscure book now.
You can’t make casings though. You need to recycle them.
(Or use black powder weapons with paper cartridges)

In the version I’m playing I did indeed find a crafting recipe for “lead”. You can simply melt down (21) scrap metal or (7) chunks of steel to make 200 units of lead.
But you need a load of equipment I don’t have. Hand press and die set being the biggest problem. Also a crucible and a forge of some kind.
I don’t recall where I got the recipe. Might have been in one of the gun training books. Some of them are full of recipes.
My character has a cold. He is dead tired but keeps waking up from coughing. He never gets rested. Any workaround?
