How did you get introduced to cataclysm

An acquaintance of mine told me about a game where you fight zombies, stockpile shit, burn shit, shoot shit, pry windows and drive lorries smashing everything on the way. That sounded intriguing enough.

We need to add back those random by the street Jabberwocks
I’d prefer those instead of random by the street chicken walkers waaaaay too much.

I proceeded to get yelled at and told ‘Go play Cataclysm:DDA then, maybe that’ll be more your speed you filthy casual!’

And here I am.
Squints Do I need to kick someone’s ass?

We could either set them on fire, ram them with a truck, both, or ram them with a flaming truck.

Oh god I totally drew a flaming truck for DYC like more then a year ago.

A year ago I was play Spess Stations 13, (still do) and I came upon someone talking in ooc about a indie game called Cataclysm DDA, I tried it and loved it.

I asked a friend about any game that i could play in windowed mode and pause at any time (totally not to procastinate). He told me to check out “Cataclysm Dark Days Ahead”. I browsed it and checked some pics on google images, at first i was like Wtf is dis shit, but then I saw Pthalocy’s drawings, which made me try it out. In my first game i just knew how to move around and nothing else, got killed my a rabid moose. Learned to love it.

I showed a friend of mine IVAN (http://ivan.sourceforge.net/screenshots.html) so in exchange she told me about this game a friend of hers showed her and she didn’t like but seeing as I liked roguelikes and crafty craft survival games, I might like this one. I played it and was floored by the fact that cataclysm DDA was everything I ever wanted in a video game AND it’s forums are a friendly place not filled to bursting with the standard fare of shitlords, racism, and homophobia I had encountered in most other game forums I visited, excluding the DF forums which I haven’t visited in ages.

I was into dwarf fortress when they first added evil mists/rains, they were talking about some of the effects it had which included husks and thralls which were very similar to zombies. So I decided to spend some time googling for a rogue like with zombies in it and C:DDA was one of the first to pop up

My friend an I were playing spessmen and he said this faintly was like spessmen simulator.
Godknows where he got that from.

Well I used to play MUDS 14 years ago, I still do but that got me wondering if any other kind of text based games were out there that were more newer. I did a search for text based as well as ascii games and of course found cata on whales which I did have fun with but then I noticed the development was lacking as it had none in awhile. So I did a search for cataclysm etc and of course found this beauty known as DDA, happy ending.

Oooh this takes me back. It was Plump playing the original cata years ago with Deon’s Little Mod, that was a LONG time ago. I remember it took me 3 months to realise that it was no longer being developed xD

Somehow, wandering around tvtropes.

If memory serves, I was on 4chan’s /v/ board, in a topic where people were complaining about the lack of difficulty in video games. At one point one Anon said “all I want is a realistically difficult game where getting even a single wound could potentially kill you if you’re unlucky/don’t treat it right”. Somebody else name-dropped DDA. A bunch of people immediately responded with

playing shitty roguelikes
playing more zombie-filled shit
playing games made by feminist cuckolds

Needless to say, I was intrigued.

Exploring roguebasin one day where I stumbled across Cataclysm: DDA. I didn’t play anything else for a week…

While I was searching for new roguelikes to play I found many lists and top 10s that talked about DDA and DF.

I played DF first because I was fascinated with all the content of the game.

I play Cataclysm because,in my opinion,it is the only game that comes close to DF’s enormous content.

Also this is the only game I know that allows me to become an alcoholic mutant ninja cyborg wizard that wields magical artifacts and lives on a super armored RV with flamethrowers and spikes all over its military armor. That’s why I love it so much.

so eloquently put. Should probably be the tag line.

…“cuckolds”? I new anti-feminism was a reactionary position, but that’s a seriously old-school slur.

Similar here, except /vg/.

Has its renaissance right now, though it has also became a bit of a buzzword. It is the new default slur against a man, usually one with leftist tendencies.
