Yeah, even more so since this game was made in c++. Java’s a bit easier than cpp imo.

After messing around the java console system for hours, I realized that java’s console support was mostly a mess, you cannot create a rougelike using raw text only, though there are several libraries out there I doubt that they’ll work (I’ve been using jcurses for a while, it seems to work fine though for simple applications only). I then tried using tiles based on ascii characters, with a bit of work you can do a crude rougelike using image based tiles, I think there’s a number of tutorials out there for tile based games in java.

But I really don’t think java was made for retro rougelike games seeing its text support till now.

Dang. That’s weird, i really tought it’d be much more organized and friendly, being java. Well, i recall it being so, but i guess it’s not for this kind of stuff. Sadly, because it had potential!

Well, I sorta just watched Jefmajor and Zemalf a lot. They did Cata around similar times, and this was actually the first Roguelike I downloaded and played. DF was the first one I saw, but I didn’t get into that until later.

Actually, yeah. Oh god getting killed by him sounds cool. Anyways, it could be cooler to make something more seeable yet hidden, like a description of an object. A survivor note, a flyer?

Maybe a survivor note about one of his character type runs (ninja, nerd, etc)

I was watching some Indiestatik and saw “The Top (insertnumberherecauseIcantremember) Rogue-Likes” and didn’t really give it much thought at the time, but then like a week or 2 later I got bored and looked at the video again to find that one rogue-like about every single apocalypse in one (a.k.a. Cataclysm: Dark Days Ahead).

I haven’t been playing it too much recently, and have only really been drawing stuff about it along with other people.

watched Goggles McBoggles get tore up, then I joined going HA, I can do Way better than this guy… I think I have accomplished that. On a side note took the Lab challenge and Elise Papyrus seems to be trapped from leaving by the turret guarding the only exit I have found, and it seems to be lit even though I am pretty sure it was the surface at midnight. Thought Id be able to sneak one on a surface turret at night…guess not. Off To the noob forum!!!
