This is the idea I been think long time, I think for now, the game its explosion dosn’t look very powerful, most reason mabye is because this?
I mean, yes explosion has lot damage to deal on the objects, but none of them just get blow away by a blast?
also, with this, we may have a chance not to get blow a shit up by those chicken walker or tank drone something like that, because you are force to change you position by the blast
so that’s what I say, start dev right now? it should be easy, right?
oh, and other idea, how about we make desk fan that can scatter a gas or smoke? so we can take care that toxic gas from mine shaft, this will not stop toxic gas spread, but at least it wont block player’s vision, explore into a toxic gas could be painful, gas mask or not.
The problem is purely economical. Explosions are rarely good for any situation. First of all - most of them are very weak for situations.
It’s not economical to use explosives against enemies. The only exceptions are very tough enemies like zombie dancers. It’s totally stupid to use explosives against groups of enemies because of short radius.
It’s not economical to use common explosives to dismantle buildings. Still the same reason - their radius is very low. However it also should be taken in mind that RL building demolition is done by using comparatively weak explosives, but on weak spots which cause a building to break. Such thing is not implemented in game so it’s not possible to do the same.
It’s not economical to use common explosives to clear the road from broken cars. The reason is very simple - while they may get nearly destroyed, they still won’t fall apart because of the problem with monolithic vehicles. You CAN’T cut any vehicle in half, it just won’t let you do it. So it’s not possible to reliably destroy vehicles in the way using only an explosive.
So in most cases you either need pretty weak, but good explosives like TNT to make some holes or extremely powerful ones like car bomb which destroy everything in vicinity. There is no balance and the reason is simple: there are only two things explosions deliver: pretty small shockwave and sound boom. There is no concussion radius, no flash, no high temperature spot, no atmospheric pressure change spot. If they were there, explosion would be EXTREMELY useful.
Check my topic: http://smf.cataclysmdda.com/index.php?topic=4755.0 about explosions. Your proposal is already suggested:
5. Shockwave must move items from their positions and these items must damage everything depending from their weight and volume. Like a vehicle being run on some speed, but the weight is far more lesser.

I dosn’t ask too much about those effect right now, I only want it make explosion can knock out player and zombie like creatures for now, let take it one at the time, shall we? and what about that desk fan thing?

It'd be useful. The worst thing in mines is smoke covering stairs. I spent literally 15 minutes trying to find the exit once, got bored and used cheats to get myself out.
I approve. It’d be just an small mechanic that could be used very well if smart enough. Also, if it becomes implemented, we could even have futuristic “move grenades” that make a huge shockwave and no explosion. Just because it could be a good mechanic. Would that be possible though?
Proven that whoever codes the blast throwing items does it in a separate function you should be able to call it without having to blow anything up.
Of course that I wouldn’t know how the physics of a move grenade would work but, who cares?
Yeah, the physics would not matter to me, but some people here love everything all realist and stuff, so idk. We should start putting more stuff for the same of deeper mechanics and fun. After all, it’s a sandbox roguelike game!
