I once explored a nuclear fuel/spent_fuel storage facility that had an elevator. The elevator did move items on its floor between levels. I think I moved a bunch of steel drums out of storage.
Whoever happens to work on the lab code could copy/paste or take hints from the nuclear storage facility’s elevator code.
