One day the RNG will gift you with a group of military corpses right out side the Evac Shelter, just be patient.
I still have a guy which lived for 64 days (4 months for me ingame) and the game is starting to glitch a little,lets say it tried to kill me in alot of ways (damn you acid rain right as im walking to my second base which has all my death trucks!)

I have an idea but don’t think it’ll do much, if I were to push something in front of me to use as mobile cover like a shopping cart, would it work?
Probably, it would need to have a board to soak up the bullets though, and it will take damage very quickly unless you put some armor on it
