Draw Your Cataclysms

Slight error in angle of the back = objectification of women.

Major errors in the positioning of the left leg vis-a-vis the saddle: anti-saddle prejudice.

Pervasive errors in design of the bike: raging hatred of motorcycles.

Sloppy foreshortening: perspective genocide.

Or, you know, it’s a sketch. With flaws. 'Cause it’s a sketch.

That said, while suggestions are sorta nice, art runs from masterpiece to scribbles in this thread. Watch me go look for skeletons in chaz’s art, et cetera. That was me being facetious.

Well, i think it was people trying to help, because absolutely everyone has something to improve. Also, doing this depends on the style. You can’t do that in chaz’s art because he has his own style wich is pretty amazing. BUT if you try to do realistic like now, there is always something to improve. Sorry if we bothered you, just trying to help.
Tried to photograph myself doing that pose. Couldn’t get a good angle, but it’s not at all comfortable here in my office, let alone on a motorcycle at speed.

KA101 can’t draw for shit, but knows folks who can and recommends she keep her eyes on the road there, rather than going for the spine-twisting B&B arch.

Competent women are sexy, sure. Not so much when some mean artist made 'em strike a pose whilst driving, causing a fatal crash and resulting in a survivor zed.

it just looks nice…

rule of cool dude, rule of cool. although the buttocks are slightly overemphasized, thats just nitpicking.

There’s sort of a split here between those expressing an idea quickly, and are happy where they are. There are some who always look for feedback and critique. I forget to ask sometimes before pointing things out, for which I apologize. There is no critique worse than critique unasked for. Well, okay there’s also really bad critique, but. Bleh you know what I meant.

Apologies if I appeared to be judging, I genuinely enjoy picking apart well-made art to see what can be improved. It reminds me to keep getting better. I also need reminding to USE MORE REFERENCES and STOP DRAWING LAZY TOONS ALL DAY.

Oh god i could relate to you all day.
And yeah Perigrin, it looks cool, hahaha.

Changing the topic while staying on topic:
Though i do find some kind of portrayals of women in drawing quite bad, i also like portraying sexyness in a woman. Because well, there are also beautiful women. There are also handsome men. The thing is when you make that is that the general purpuse of the thing. The woman -that i guess it’s taken from a comic- it’s supposed to be a barbaric woman, threatening, so maybe the person trying to portray her in some kind of sexual way was not very well received. There is a time for everything. Sometimes you can draw the beauty of someone, but unless you are quite weird i don’t think you will see someone punching to a ball of meat someone else a time to for a beauty check. However, i can see the person who drew that had a lot of talent, though.
I love the body and it’s sexyness, but there is a time for everything.

I seriously hope i explained myself in a good way here, i don’t want to sound bad to anyone.

(I am just ranting for myself here, not saying anything to you, Perigrin! d:)

oh, no, i was just really intending to say that i dislike that, as i do not find anything particularly attractive about peoples Glutious Maximus (Butchered latin FTW) now, before this becomes an art discussion thread, we need to make an art discussion thread. and yes, anyone who complains about the sexiness of women in something, i show them a picture of a guy from it (IE Wonder Woman and Superman), and point out that it is also very fanservicy, so shut up about it, im tired of the background noise.

Hahaha, sorry then! I am bad with sarcasm. I’m not a robot though (?

Yeah, the whole medium is really like that! It seriously looks like everyone is like “If you have competence, compete with asses and abs”.
Sometimes it’s just plain ignorance the cause, though: Some people can’t do bodies apart from perfect ones. I am guilty of that, my men look all like copies of Superman, to give you an example. That’s why sometimes drawing toons a lot helps you have a wider view of the beautiful possibilities of the human body. Generally you need to have the perfect male and female body well studied for that, though. I am at drawing the female perfect, for now. But i will have time to go wild later!

Also i can’t say much, for me drawing a beautiful woman feels good. Not in a pervert way, just like, i don’t know, i feel i appreciate women better. That happened with drawing men as well. When you start thinking like that and everything becomes circles and rectangles, corners and curves, shapes… ohhh, it’s so pretty. You feel enlightened.

I haz opinion: Far to much talking and far to little Cataclysm art is going on in this thread.

In other words, time to get back on topic!

Huhwha aaaaa

Thank you for the comment there, StopSignal! As far as my style goes, I’m glad you think it’s amazing! I do try and keep things looking at least proportional when I’m drawing characters, and perspective is always an issue for me, but when I’m doing quick doodles for people, generally they don’t seem to mind any minor mistakes in those respects! I’ve been improving gradually in my own ways as well. I just can’t do realistic, I don’t have the time. I like putting out quick and funny sketches for the sake of entertainment, and I’m fine with that! I just look for little ways to improve.

Going off on a tangent, of the major things I’ve been trying to combat lately is my tendency for my art to ‘lean’ to one side because of my drawing position, and characters become a horrifying lop-sided monstrosity. Even on a quick doodle nowadays I will flip the canvas every now and again to make sure I’m not leaning too much to one side, and correct the pose if necessary and possible.

Here’s a prime example, my previous refsheet for ChazMoth:

Sure, everything looks relatively okay (Although I’m not 100% happy with that snoot). At least, to me it looks okay, because I tend to lean to one side. Flip the canvas, and then things become a bit more obvious…

So yeah, I mirror flip the canvas every now and again to make sure my characters aren’t leaning too noticeably. I may do quick sloppy doodles sometimes, but even then I try and take a little bit of time to fix things up so they’re not entirely awful.

In parting for the night because I desperately need sleep, this post sums it up.

You did not only made me laugh a damn lot, it’s also an incredibly normal thing and oh god it makes so much trouble.
Hahahaha, that was really funny.

I need to draw more and give advice less… wait no. Wait.

Anyway the point i wanted to say before i forgot, was that flipping your canvas lots while drawing (draw on it with it flipped, don’t just flip it ‘back’ to continue) removes a lot of bias. Make a keyboard shortcut for that shit, use it furiously. Maybe not as much as ctrl+s, which is the golden standard of spammable shortcuts.

Thought I’d try and draw some funny shenanigans with my latest character, Jodi! She’s… not very bright, and is starting to become of a somewhat canine origin! Note to self: Don’t leave your gentlemanly clothing hanging up easily accessible places!

As you can see I had a crazy smudging/burning session to see how it turned out. The end result is pretty messy, and I still have to shade things (The blazer, top hat, background trees etc.) But hey! There’s Jodi how I imagined her… sorta!

Yep, exactly. I draw on it flipped and unflipped, though I haven’t checked the keyboard shortcut for it yet, I just know there’s a quick flip button on the GUI in both SAI and FireAlpaca. I will say one minor mistake I make is forgetting that the picture is flipped when I type or write on it. Then I wonder why the writing is back to front, ahahaha.

Also yes, Ctrl+S is important. Make a habit of Ctrl+S. Sorry this isn’t a picture post but I wanted to make that response. I’m just waking up, ahahaha.

RIP red motorcycle. T.T

Just popping in to say, one of the reasons I like Stop and Chaz’s art is the nice, thick lines. I just don’t like cartoon style art without thick outlines and such.
