I seem to be having problems with small bodied enemies in that I am constantly missing them. Things like zombie children and grakens tend to problematic, I had to run to away from a single zombie child to hide in my safe house because I could not hit it and after spending 8 in game hours trying to wale on a graken trapped in a corner it finally killed me. In these case I have tried some things to help, dropping some gear to eliminate encumbrance and such bu with no luck. are my weapon skills just too low or is there a better way of dealing with small bodied enemies.
you can throw something at them. What was your encumbrance and what weapon did you use?
At low melee skill levels your best bet is to throw things at them or shoot them. The factors affecting hit chance are melee skill, dex, encumbrance, weapon, and weapon skill.
i’ve never had problems hitting a zombie child even at low skill levels, so i assume there’s some other problem here.
As I said i tried dropping clothing, backpacks, ect to reduce encumbrance, I was using a wood axe at the time, the the case of the graken i was using a fireaxe.
Wood axe is extremely slow, and has low hit chance. Try some small blades (military knife, wazikashi), drop backpacks and winter gear (they are usually very cumbersome) and to have at least 3 melee skill and 3 cutting weapons skill. Also, usually throwing stuff does the tricks. That’s probably the best way to overcome this ‘’’‘bug’’’’
Check the to-hit bonus of the weapon you’re wielding as well. Negative values won’t be good with the speedy enemies early on.
If all else fails, if you don’t have torso encumbrance, you could always go with your fists.
- throw items
- use melee weapons and objects with innate to-hit bonuses, avoid weapons with to-hit penalties
- manhacks, very effective against zombie children (note that manhacks are reusable - deactivate by walking into the same square where the manhack is)
- explosives
- lure them on a bushfire
- lose them behind a door or any other obstruction - they’re too weak to punch through
- use certain drugs to boost your attributes
Here’s your problem right there. Next time craft yourself a nail board or use the url=http://cdda.estilofusion.com/makeshift_crowbar/craft crowbar[/url] you should always have with you. Those are 0 skills crafts, for which it’s absolutely trivial to get ingredients.
Even better - go forage some bushes, get your survival to 1, craft a knife spear and 'f’ire it at enemies from 1 tile away. It’s called a reach attack and it lets you kill most things with 0 risk (lure them in a bush tile, or, even better, in a window frame for even more free hits at them).
I never said it was a bug its more like, the game does not give you enough information to figure out why you miss, just wonder what was going on, the low hit chance on the weapon explains it, but I am not sure what to look for, the to hit chance on a wood axe and a combat knife are both +1 (according to the wiki), is there something else i should be looking for other then + hit stat?

Look also at moves per attack (less is better). At low skill levels, it’s better to have a less damaging, but faster weapon, that allows you to hit and run, thus avoiding getting hit. Also look at techniques, rapid strike is an awesome one.
Actually, disregard the nail board advice, i’ve mistaken it for nail bat. A cudgel is actually better than a nail board.
