What's Happening in YOUR Randomly-generated Apocalypse?

Okay, I may have weakened the dracolich a little, but I can’t take it down just yet. Much savescumming ensued as I had to bait it around enough to reach the stairs safely.

EDIT: On the plus side, I made it out with the ring.

Im very irritated with the hordes of feral ghoul wannabes now. They spawned behind me in 3 waves when I tried to sleep in a bed…

I got out by chugging wine and spewing fiery death. I spent the night preparing the best I know how.

-Ive got a molotov, which is useful if it ever stayed lit.
-Ive got the C4 hacks. They work.
-Ive got that stupid overrated crystal that spews magic sparkles. It charges fast but seems really ineffective.
-Ive got the 14 shots of 00 in the keltec
-Ive got the aux flamethrower on the fnscar and as much accuracy as I can stuff onto it.
-Ive got a beretta with as much mods as I can hold since I have 2k rounds of the stuff now. with 30 shots per clip it has uses against a trickling horde or in conjunction with the flamer.
-Im dipping into MREs now, but were close. And Id rather dip into them than the aspic I did store up.
-The tazers are less useful against the wanderers, but meh.

I needed to make a few modifications to my Kitout to support the extra gun, but overall I hope I brought enough dakka for the damn things. I am thoroghly annoyed at the situation. Theres a utility room in the far corner and I want. 1750 of them down and counting. For a space designed for 200-400 people in its own lore its certainly packed full of love.

I am directly between two hordes. It is 8:00 pm but it has been dark for hours. The zombies are banging on trees and it’s keeping me up, but if I put in ear plugs I’m going to wake up to zombies having bashed through the Solar Roller.

I’m just going to turn the lights on, activate the turrets, and deal Mycus-fueled death.

EDIT: So I did that, wiped out the northern horde with a forest fire and the southern horde by beating them to death with an A7 laser rifle, like always. I must have killed 6 or 7 hulks, which is unusual. Then another horde showed up from the east and I killed that one too. Then I found out my turrets weren’t actually on and I had to turn them all on, after which I turned off the lights and went to bed at 3:00 AM. I woke up to my laser cannon blowing up a necromancer, after which I got out and gathered the crossbow bolts and drove off east… right into a horde of zombies.

So I did what any survivor would do and got out my mininuke launcher and nuked the frontrunners. That didn’t do much, so I got out a regular mininuke and just chucked it at the zombies. I have 80 strength so I can throw a mininuke about 15 tiles. That had a bit more effect, so I finished off the stragglers by ramming them with the Solar Roller.

I couldn’t find a first aid kit anywhere in my little village, and the infection didn’t leave me many options. It wasn’t too hard to get in to the megastore. I even managed to shake them off my trail in the dark. Getting out was another matter, as it had filled in quite thoroughly during my run. I have new respect for the heavy duty flashlight. Turn it on and give it a toss… it worked! Most were drawn by the light giving me enough of a gap to reach the humvee, which I then, naturally, backed into the store at full speed, crushing checkout counters, display racks, and a total 61 zombies, plus one skeletal dog.

Question: Does the sound from slingshot pebble impacts attract/distract their attention, if even for a moment?

Well, I went over to chat to a dynamic NPC. She was friendly thankfully, just a wanderer. I might see about recruiting her.

Also on my to-do list, beef up my armor. I’m gonna need some more beefiness to avoid burning to death.

EDIT: Heh. Better idea. I edited the save to enable z-levels, brought my allies down with me.

Screenshot:

One’s got a veinreaver, the other’s got a Winchester model 70. I’m about ready to retire this character anyway, so…charge!

EDIT 2: “Davida Costa wields a electrohack.” Oh that ain’t good.

EDIT 3: And Davida’s dead.

EDIT 4:

Day 23 of autumn. Seasons are 45 days, and I intend to spend that time until winter crafting nothing but steel rails. There will be lots of blood when winter exploration start.

For blobs and whatnot, I got a mounted turbolaser to be used. The sluggernaut has multiple storage batteries and a minireactor as well.

I spent my afternoon smashing my way through a triffid grove, which is very satisfying. I have a lot of Molotovs, which I use as ranged weapons. My strength is so high I can throw a Molotov further than most guns can shoot.

In the process of ramming my way in, a triffid queen broke one of my quantum solar panels! Luckily I have a few extra, but those things are rare and non-renewable. I’m mad.

Hmmm.

Via savescumming, I harvested a bunch of crops, comparing the total number I got between using the reaper and examining each crop individually.

If harvested via examining:
Cannabis: 2500+
Zucchini: 100+

Via reaper:
Cannabis: 1000+
Zucchini: 30+

The reaper is set in the side and there’s no frame behind it that could possibly crush the crops (which it does if there’s a frame with a wheel/anything)… so while it’s less tedious to harvest the crops in that way, harvesting them manually yields quite a lot… so I’m wondering now if the reaper is not affected by survival skill.

It’s certainly a lot more faster if I use the reaper… and if I set up a vehicle scoop behind it picking them us is also faster - though adding that does visibly damage the crops.

Like, I dunno what I should pick. My survivor is in a point where the amount isn’t exactly important since she’s in no danger of starving, but still…

Rule #1: Never leave the cave.
Rule #2: Never. Leave. The. Cave.
Rule #3: NEVER. LEAVE. THE. CAVE.
Travelled over 70 map tiles, of mostly thick forest and swamps, back to where I originally spawned at to retrieve an artifact. Don’t know why I didn’t pick it up when I first encountered it, as going back I realized there was no environmental hazards around it. Getting there was absolutely fine, made a detour to check out a Curious Structure. Flaming eye. Nope! Spotted a Strange Grove some 20 or so map tiles down from the artifact. There was a gas station nearby, so I could camp out there for the night before venturing over to check the grove out.

Night sets in as I’m travelling down the road. I’m ambushed by at least three different packs of wolves all containing at least three wolves along the way, and one grim howler for good measure. They managed to tear me up pretty good, but I eventually made it to the gas station which turned out to be a self serve. No building shelter for me. Figuring I’d at least get alerted to the fence being banged on, I decided to sleep in that fenced off area. Hah! Cue a giant wolf spider to catch a light night snack. That thing almost did me in, but I realized why I was getting so messed up by the local wildlife. Forgot I had slung an extra backpack on as well as my bow and quiver.

Spider dealt with, I managed to get some sleep, though didn’t heal much because I took Slow Healer. My arm kept getting damaged for some reason. Might have been the spider venom, or the artifact. Not sure which. The grove had another flaming eye, so I left that alone. On my way back I’m beset by more wolves. Took care of them, took a quick nap in a car and made it back to the large swath of swamplands and forests. Sweating bullets the whole time, fearing wolves, bears, cougars and all else.

On the final edge of the forest I get ambushed by a moose. “This is it,” I think to myself. By some miracle I jabbed that moose with my broken ass knife spear to death and skittered on outta there. Out in the fields I got surrounded by some nether creature and a few zombies. By this point I was at like 90 pain and 50 speed with broken arms and barely any torso health left. out of defeated desperation I activated the artifact. OH GOD YES! BEES! FRIENDLY BEES! They provided enough distraction to take care of the zombies and the kreck. Eventually made it back to the cave without further incident. One arm is at : and the other just healed up from that. Hopefully that one will too.

I wish my character had the spiritual trait now, just so I could pray to whatever entity this ancient relic ascribes to.
Fire. Fire is the solution to wolves and fire will burn out spiders and fire.

Burn the world. Wolves will take a turn or two to fully disengage because their aggression level can get pretty high, so its best to light it when they aren’t in melee range.

May be an unintended bug, but once they are into ‘tracking mode’ you can hang out by the fire and slingshot/arrow them to death with no retribution. This is because the fire keep suppressing them, and they don’t flee.

I made a screenshot for you beautiful people. This is where yesterday came to a close: humvee parked inside a megastore alongside piles of debris from my roughshod entrance. A clever but unskilled survivor, sick with the flu.

Along with the usual assortment of tools and supplies, the day came with one prize in particular: an RM103 Automagnum. This handgun is so powerful it feels like a shame to use it against the targets I am facing, but I intend to stay here the night, and clearing corpses has left me unable to conduct melee. I’ll keep an eye out for more 8x40 rounds.

Despite the wealth of scrap I’m leaving behind, I see little need to stay here much longer. The hordes have already gathered around, outside. It wasn’t hard to get away - that humvee will take a lot of abuse - but there isn’t anywhere to go, either. The firehall in town could make a good fortification, and I was able to get my vehicle in close, but I can’t get inside. I have decided to set fire to the building. I will use a small fire extinguisher to keep it from spreading.

Even despite the heavy thunderstorm, the flames grew and spread. I ran out of foam before the fire had burnt through, so I had a little vodka and went for the sledge.

The fire must have weakened the wall, because one hit was all it took to break through. There was nothing to fight inside, and I was rewarded with a full set of turnout gear which fit me well. I built a curtained door and dug a few pits around the hole I’d made, moved in some basics, and got some rest.

You using a tileset or another program for those beauty shots?

Yeah. The chesthole pack looks great, but I can’t really play with it on, since it restricts my vision to a narrow area. On wider zoom-levels, I find it really hard to discern monsters and tiles. But don’t those ragdolls look great?

Yep.

I finished up with the wanderers. 2006 of them are dead, and the town was given a once over. Not surprisingly, there wasn’t much there worth looting, although I do have 50 long strings now.

I have decided to put off the building of the Immobile Home until I find this hand press and die set or a complete foodco buddy. I will have my meat smoothies and tanning lamp installed in the reclining front seat yet. I have 2 cloth seats installed in back for giggles, and just recovered from omgpaintimes.

what was omgpaintimes? omgpaintimes was me trying to loot a pharmacy, only to find a smoker and a small band approach me. The smoker was screening a shocker brute, and I forgot the bionic to negate shock long enough to get paralyzed. While dealing with him a soldier came along my flank. Soldiers seem to have gotten a good deal more armor in this new experimental, and I figured a bashing weapon like my morningstar would help. It did, but not before a hulk busted out of the house behind me.

The shocker brute tossed me into the house via a window and when I pulled my pitiful revolver and unloaded into the hulk the smashed me into a doorframe that collapsed onto me. That happened, so I lit a fire under the bum of the hulk and the shocker. The shocker died, and the hulk decided that punching me was nicer than freeing me. With my free hand I stabbed it.

Just as the hulk died a regular brute came by. He tossed me out into the tv room and the game wouldn’t let me move, thinking I still had rubble on me. The brute was easy enough to kill, but I needed 2 oxycodones to get my pain down enough to pass a strength check and free myself.

Outside, a horde was gathering, probably because of that sparkling crystal. 2 charges, and it charges fast, but creates noise with the decibels of a weak gunshot. I left my back door open and the horde took my starting the car up as an invitation to come in and jam with me.

I got out with more or less 2 yellow bars of health on all parts. Thank god for armor.

winter is coming, and Ive begun changing my kitout to support more layers. I traded my kevlar reinforced iron greaves for iron greaves, and I decided to keep the duster after consideration. The leather armor is warm and is armor, but the duster offers so much more. I also picked up chaps. Saw 3 wrestling brutes, and killed one. They are strong enough to be an upgrade, but they are only medium priorities. unless they knock you down they just arent as threatening as predators, masters, screechers, or spitters. okay, theyre more of a priority than a spitter. But the corrosives? meh.

There are only 3 gun stores within 3 days travel of my location. 1 has been looted, 1 is in the middle of a medium city, and one was by that pharmacy. Funzies.

pedit: OMG LITTLE BABBY SPECIAL UNDEAD

Was this because I told everyone how to get the best bookstash in the game with no skills?

It seems like every time I post in this thread I die shortly thereafter, but I’ve been having fun with this survivor. Started near a ranch, and I’ve been accumulating stuff and skills. I’ve currently got a solar powered electric SUV thing I’ve been working on, and I’ve been working out of a flatbed truck with some military composite rams. I had a close call recently, I came in too quickly in the flat bed and started crashing into crap and all kinds of stuff, and realized I’d left my kukri at my ranch on accident. Fortunately I had a hunting knife in a sheath and after wasting a shocker and a brute with my SMG I hopped through a window and cut down the other twenty or so zombies and zombie cops with relative ease. I’ve got some bionics(including integrated toolset) but only 100 power storage and none to hold them yet. I finally got a kitchen unit and fridge in my electric car, and I’m planning on throwing my books in the back and abandoning the junkyard/ranch I’ve been holed up in.

I’m pretty sure my character hasn’t slept in three or four days, because atomic coffee is awesome.

Radiation is insane.

Spend ~30 ingame minutes on the top floor of a hazardous waste sarcophagus and, even with the use of some Prussian Blues found within, it brought my survivor down from full health to two and a half bars everywhere.

Also, living out of a hatchback is hard. 520 storage space sounds like alot, but its really not.

Why do you think each successive Solar Roller has been bigger than the last?

I decided to raid a megastore.

This turned out to be a very bad decision.

First off, I was going too fast when I came to the megastore, so the Solar Roller VI ended up in the store, sideways. So I ran into the middle of the store in an attempt to get the zombies away from my car.

Megastores used to be almost pure vanilla zombies. Not any more, they’ve been culturally enriched. For another thing, a whole megastore of corrosive zombies all at once is awful. On top of that, Marloss Man Reborn has been seriously nerfed. He only deals about half the damage he used to, which is the difference between leaving a corpse and exploding it with sheer force. And if you leave a corpse, a necromancer can revive it. There were five necromancers.

My strategy was to pull a pin on a grenade, drop it, teleport, then have the grenade take out some of the zombies who were previously surrounding me. It worked pretty well until I ran out of grenades. I debated burning down the store around me, since I’m fireproof, but my car was in the store and it would be wrecked. So I just did a lot of teleporting, switching between diamond broadsword and A7 rifle, and eventually whittled down the zombies until I had one final shootout, killing the last of them.

While I was butchering the zombies, they started coming back to life, because it had taken so long to kill them all. Things got a little hairy when a necromancer came back to life, revived two of his buddy necromancers, and they revived the hulk. I killed that hulk six times in total. A never-ending, challenging fight? Could have been Valhalla, but it hurt.

Oh yeah, did I mention I was at 170 pain at the end, and that I would have had broken legs without the aid of Repair Nanobots? Well, that happened. Cataclysm has gotten so challenging that Marloss Man Reborn is having problems.

So I looted a couple books that had recipes I hadn’t learned yet and skedaddled. Oh yeah, a couple of zombies had gotten stuck on the wrong side of the Solar Roller during the fight, so they bashed their way through to me. So both sides and half my crafting stations are shot, including the welding rig, which is going to make repairing this a hassle. But none of the quantum solar panels are damaged, which means everything can be replaced, even though right now I’m driving a wreck.

The reason I’m running is there’s a horde coming. But the thing is, 19 quantum solar panels means I can run forever. But I need repairs badly, and if I stop just anywhere the zombies will get in my car touch all my stuff.

I stopped by a nearby garage on my flight and picked up, luckily, a welder. So it won’t be impossible to repair the Solar Roller. It’s gotten even more battered since the megastore, especially the ram which is falling off on the left side.

And so I ran, and ran, all day at about 70 miles an hour. I think I crossed a whole map tile before I got bogged down in this town. I’m looking for a cathedral, which is absolutely impregnable with only a little bit of fortification. I can scavenge metal and parts at night and build during the day and sleep whenever I get tired. But it looks like it’s another day away. But I can make it.

edit; woo i made it

Meanwhile, I just took out a house full of giant black widow spiders(to be precise, 82 of them) almost without a scratch. No clue where they came from, the house looking normal and there being no basement, but I got them dead.

Oh, and the z-level looking stuff? Amazingly buggy. As in, get shot at through several floors by a turret buggy. Also, I think I saw some of the spiders through walls, unless there was a basement I couldn’t find.

The hatchback-o-doom has also gotten a boost. One of the seats has been replaced with a cargo space, the drivers seat is primed for the M2 that is currently sitting in the trunk to be installed, and the swapable storage batteries and half the solar panels from a solar car have been mounted in it.

I think we should all have a chat about monster evo.

Id prefer to see more masters than suddenly 7 hulks in 1 night.

See, i was originally under the impression that spawn ratios were unaffected by evo. But thats def not the case
