What's Happening in YOUR Randomly-generated Apocalypse?

It is done. Finally done. The creation of HQ and the moving of stuff in.

Top left corner is the armory. Guns are sorted by skill, melee weapons are sorted by main damage type - though weapons that are compatible with unarmed combat like brass knuckles have their own container. Weapons like bullwhips and fire lances get their own rack as well. One locker holds power armor parts while the other locker contains basic armor. Weapon mods and manhacks and turrets are included within armory space.

Bottom left is the crafting area. More or less the same as the old crafting area I had long ago. Chemicals on the left side display racks, right side display racks contain food items normally used as ingredients for cooking. Smoking rack and constructed charcoal kiln at bottom right of that area - since I’ll be smoking quite a bit of meat. Central tables and counters are spare parts, skill and recipe books. For most part I’ve learned all the skills I can get from those books, and some books have all recipes learned, but it’s nice to keep one of each book there for the look of it. Top table are the science-y stuff; mutagens and mutagen serums, purifier and purifier serums. Tools are also there.

Bottom left beyond crafting area is the dining area and bar. Bar crates have snacks and food that won’t rot, racks have drinks and booze - with the wooden barrel of whiskey without a container to be displayed. Might get some plates to complete the look. Above the dining table is the car parts storage. Bottom right is the miscellaneous stuff - mostly items in other category that I don’t exactly much need of at the moment. Also in that area are spare tools, weapons, and clothing/armor that I already have one of.

Top right is the bedroom area. Medical area is there. May add another bed next to the medicine lockers to give the look of a clinic. Sofa’s there to look pretty. Big empty metal rack is where I’ll put artifacts in on display. Cheated a bit with map editor to make those desks, since they can’t be constructed and I can’t drag the ones down the ice lab up. Bookshelves have newspapers, flyers, and survivor notes. Counter next to chair has non-recipe, non-skill books. Desk also have maps on one area, and a stack of paper in another to look more office-y. Bed with alarm clock nearby, and a stack of money. Lockers have clothing where fancy and non-fancy items are stored separately. One locker contains all the human meat products that won’t rot. Discretion is important for cannibals living in the cataclysm, as the guests can be a bit squeamish looking at stacks of meals made from previous guests.

Also, red carpet in front of the welcome desk. Light is provided by carrying around a heavy duty flashlight running on a UPS with a UPS bionic providing the energy.

Watch a shoggoth go and hoover it all up.

Everything below the lab is cleared of life. Hahahahaha! I moon at the god of clutter!

Next up, kegs. Keg of protein shake and keg of atomic coffee for starters.

What about a keg of tea?

Priorities, man. Need to finish filling up these two kegs first; halfway done with the atomic coffee and only ten percent done with shakes. For the rest of the drinks I’ll construct the keg storage on the ice lab area. All the drinks. Human broth would probably be the most time consuming, since I think I need 600 units of broth to fill a keg, and that’d mean I need 5k more human bones, and making human broth can take quite a lot of time.

Found a corner of a house guarded by a shotgun trap, with a boarded up door and reinforced windows.

As you can see, the zombie hulks kind of rendered the trap useless, so I was able to slip in the side. I decided that a survivor should be hiding out in the bathroom, maybe hiding in the tub and waiting for night time to raid, so I spawned one in.

Luckily, she happened to be peaceful, and after I put her bloated-zombie mom down she was willing to come with me back to the school base. She’s a hacker, so I’ve set her up in the old computer lab.

In other news, I’ve cleared the entire southern tip of the town I’m in. I think I’m not going to enable wander spawns in this game just yet, since I’ve worked so hard to claim that territory, but maybe when I get a bit more confident and things get a bit too quiet.

I’ve also carved out a little base in the end of the subway tunnel, which I’ve started setting up as a secondary location I can strike further into the city from.

I plan to build a pair of metal doors in that long corridor, to give myself space to fight against single opponents. I’m having a bit of difficulty figuring out how to get above construction 4 at the moment, though.

The end goal, of course, is to take the subway line up to a sewer intersection miles to the north, and then take that to a small town across the river which is just south of the refugee center, where I can finally be a part of humanity’s effort to reclaim the world.

I’d love to have an underground base on a future playthrough, or maybe a secondary base on my current one. Main problem I have right now is a matter of hauling. Since I can’t park a car or drag a wheelbarrow down, transferring goods from one level to another can be tedious. 'course, a workaround is to dump all the items in the inventory and wear several rucksacks and duffel bags, but it’s tedious.

Yeah, this is really more of an outpost than a proper base, and it’s still been an effort getting it supplied properly. The school is probably going to remain my main base for this character unless I find something irresistible.

In general, I’d love to construct my own base again. Built one once, giant structure, about 2-4 map tiles big made with stone. Unfortunately it was utter tedium to construct the whole thing so I’m real hesitant to try because I know I’ll make the entire place huge for the sheer sake of it.

Here’s what my self-constructed base looked like:
Began by digging underground at Spring 41/91 to find rocks for stone walls, and finally done moving everything from my old base to my new one at summer 21/91.

The entrance area, where I went overboard with setting up crates for “trash” items. Usable containers on one box, misc. trash on another, spare tools, unloaded guns that I already have in my armory, clothing/armor that I already have and can’t be cut up or disassembled, burnt items, tainted bones. Construction materials like two by fours and rocks have their own crates, and MREs and plastic bottles of clean water have their own container as well. And a mop in case I have to clean up a mess. Plan to set a steel frame somewhere around the middle and put a mounted M2 browning there.

The big empty space will be my vehicle parts storage, just a small number of odds and ends there. Will add more display racks the more vehicle parts I find, and organize them by type. Containers on the bottom right are gasoline. On the top right is a kind of office area. Desk just hold some misc. stuff. The indoor plants got dragged from the mansion just to complete the look of the thing.

The crafting area. Spare parts, spare parts like batteries and nails, chemicals, books with recipes still unlearned, tools (with charges and tools that don’t use charge), food items, a single space I didn’t roof so I can collect water; a station for clothes and armor repair, and crates for metal. Scrap, chunks, and lumps are separate from each other. Of course, there’s a rig with the vehicle crafting tools, but that’s incomplete since I don’t have solar panels yet.

The bedroom. One dresser for clothing, and another for armor. If I find power armor, it’ll be on the middle between those two dresser. Money bundles on the bed because why not?

Place where bionics and mutagens are stored. Medical supplies are also kept there. Also fancy stuff like gold earrings and gold bars and whatnot.

Armory. Entrance is hidden by a row of bookshelves. Handguns, rifles, shotguns, SMGs, launchers, and casings on one row. Thrown explosives, normal ammo, shotgun shells, exotic ammo like fusion packs, grenades and rockets, and a firearm repair kit on middle row. Last row has archery weapons, arrows and bolts, mods, melee weapons, thrown weapons, and stuff like solder and tin.

And that’s about it. Not quite complete yet, as I’m planning for a farming area outside, a garage, and a campsite for NPCs I don’t kill in the future. Maybe a second layer of wall as well. Just one entrance. If a horde manages to breach through, I die with my base.
Day 3 of summer (standard seasons, I wish I’d remembered to make them longer)

My alter ego decided to scout north of the motel. There’s a nice web of bridges, and beyond them, a small city. Even better, one of the bridges had not one, but TWO electric cars in near mint condition close to each other. They’ll do for loot storage for now. (End of my storage woes :P)

I wish I had a hacksaw and a wrench to put the trunks from the car with trunks but nearly no solar panels in the car with a full battery and upgraded panels…

Made an unsealed jar of human broth, placed it outside and it’s still summer. Just want to test to see if it will rot, but for most part making unsealed human broth anyway and placing them on the ice lab storage, since that’s where most of the broth is going anyway. Plus, 20 unsealed human broth takes around 1/4th the time it takes to make them in sealed jars.

Shelving my human broth keg idea for now, and doing something somewhat more fast - cook at least 10 of each type of cannibal meals to be put on display on the ice lab storage.

Took a lot of work to make the ice lab storage, somewhat. It used to be one of those 9 room areas, and 6 of them has been converted to storage. I placed a wooden ceiling on all those tiles - except for the spaces that have dissectors. Once again, for the look of the thing; don’t like the rock floor and since I collapsed some walls I didn’t like seeing the dirt floors either. Is untidy.

Turned out I could reach the north end of the bridge without being disturbed. The town’s so small I decided to risk an approach during the day. The only danger so far was a feral predator, which leapt out of the hotel before I even spotted any other zombies. It was quickly dispatched.
Nearly all the Zs around are tough Zs. I guess that’s the upgrade kicking in. I killed several and was able to get in the hotel entrance, where I immediately dragged a luggage cart out. No more woes of not being able to store the loot!

Hm. Manwurst seems to have a non-rotting quality. Nice to know. Smoked suckers have 10 more nutrition on them, but mannwursts have more portions. Suckers need 3 human flesh and mannwursts require the same amount, but the wursts get 6 portions while the suckers only get 3. That doesn’t take into account the other ingredients required for mannwursts, though.

On the other hand, cheapskate currywursts require 2 mannwursts, 1 curry powder and 1 ketchup, and I get 6 portions in return for two mannwursts, only 4 less nutrition than smoked suckers, a tiny bit more thirst reduction, and has more enjoyability value. Need to check if that food rots.

edit: alas, it doesn’t.

The cannibal museum, where even the curator is edible. o3o

Well, nearly anything is edible in the cataclysm, if you don’t mind getting sick/have an internal furnace!

Ran out of ingredients, still need to cook chili con cabron, luigi lasagna, vacuum-packed salted simpleton slice, chump cheeseburger, cheater chili dogs, bobburger, manwich, sealed jar of pickled human flesh, rehydrated human flesh, and cooked creeps.

Want 10 of each. My survivor will consume them instead of just letting them be displayed, but the stock of each won’t be reduced to 5 and below. Haven’t made a sealed jar of sap soup, but due to having unsealed ones already, plus the storage, it doesn’t really matter.

Started as a regular survivor in the evac shelter. NPC didn’t want to come with so left without him. Have recently give up on the makeshift crowbar and started going with a pointy stick. Although the stats are very similar between the two it’s amazing how much easier enemies go down while using the pointy stick. Has anyone else had similar results or is it all in my head?
Anyways, started off south towards town with a goo pit to the west and huge river/swamp to the east and forest to the north. About there and I see a chicken walker hanging out around the only road into the city. Lolnope. Head north along the road until I stumble across some corpses. Drug deal gone bad. They do have a tanto and a switchblade between all the corpses but they both have damage and I enjoy both so I stick to the pointy stick and stow them away until I can find a soldering iron. Road dead ends at a lab. Great, into the forest we go.
Making my way slowly through the woods I get jumped by a mi go. Drop the winter jacket and run to a shrub, set it on fire. Takes a little maneuvering around but get the hideous thing on that tile and stab him a couple of times. Luckily mi go’s are one of the few creatures smart enough to retreat and he takes off. I grab all my stuff and make like a bread truck.
Finally spot a road after over two hours of in game time in the woods. Go for a bit and until I find a gas station. I’m dehydrated and famished but so far haven’t taken any damage which is the complete opposite of my usual start game. This whole running away thing is working out well. Wander up to gas station only to find my path blocked by giant ants and I see a beautiful thing: a technical vehicle (basically bad ass truck with spiked ram and mounted m60). So I do the only thing one can do in this situation and scream “BANZAI!!!” and run to the technical dodging huge ants who weren’t hostile yet. Luck was again was on my side as the truck was good to go just needed a top off. Got the gas to about 14%, got some pork sticks, jerky, clean water and tourist guide from gas station and off I go. All in all good first day.

You should be able to change the season length in your current save. Just go to the save folder and edit the worldoptions.json and sort of towards the bottom you will find:

{
“info” : “Season length, in days.”,
“default” : “Default: 14 - Min: 14, Max: 127”,
“name” : “SEASON_LENGTH”,
“value” : “91”
},

Just change the value number and save the file and it will correct your game… it’ll even change to the correct month depending on your current day and the season length change.

Now you can be a propah ork. o3o
