Treating infection in 0.C? How to tell hunger status?

I am a brand new C:DDA player and started on the Really Bad Day scenario because I wanted more stat points in the long run. Obviously, my biggest problem now is that I am infected (torso). I read different things about infections depending on version of the game, but how do I cure infection in this version? I broke into a nearby house and think I am safe for a while, but I need to deal with the infection.

Also, how do I tell my hunger/thirst status?

Hunger and thirst will be in the upper right, unless it is blank then you’re fine. Blank is the second best state there, with full and slaked being even better.

As far as infection, it depends a bit on which state the infection is. If you catch it early enough you can cauterize (use a knife or hotplate etc) or use disinfectants on the problem limb. Beyond that you need antibiotics, yu best bets for those are pharmacies, maybe doctors offices or ambulances. Sometimes they’ll show up in homes or about anywhere else.

How do I tell how “early” the infection is?

Bad Day starts with advanced infection. It can only be healed with antibiotics, first aid or luck (lots of luck, unless you have Infection Resistant trait).
How do I tell how “early” the infection is?
If you get a deep bite wound your bitten bodypart will turn blue in your GUI. At that state it can heal randomly (15% to do so), removing the infection completely, or healed by

 1. disinfecting the wound with a disinfectant
 2. using a medkit on the wound
 3. cauterizing the wound - (a)ctivating a knife near a source of fire.

If none of these methods are used and the wound doesn’t heal by itself it’ll turn green, becoming only cureable with antibiotics, a few medkits or royal jelly if you venture into a lab and find any. Letting the infection spread will kill you within 30 hours of the initial bite.

I see. So that basically means I have from the start of the game until 30 hours later to find antibiotics or enough medkits. The only alternative is to get Disease Resistant in the next game and hope it is cured on its own after 30 hours. What is the probability of the latter happening?

24 hours - 6 hours from the bite until infection, and you start infected.

I used to have pretty bad luck finding antibiotics, but that was before first aid kits could deal with it, and those are decently common.
