Tips, Tricks, and Newb Questions!

First off just want to say I started playing this the other day and I’m hooked, amount of depth just blows my mind…

Now this will probably a very noobish question but I can’t figure it out so far: how do you cut down trees? I have a hatchet but I’m not quite sure how to do it. Currently in a LMOE shelter with a wood stove, got a pile of 2x4 planks to keep me going for now but was hoping I could stock up on logs or something for long term use.

You need a wood axe, which is rarer than a gold bar in my 6 season character.

Plus all the logging stuff is in the construction menu.

Thanks for the reply, will keep an eye out for the axe as rare as it is.

One other question that’s causing me problems right now is how to stop getting food poisoning? I hunt animals then cook the meat on the stove but I still keep getting it, don’t have weak stomach trait or other food traits either…

Are you drinking clean water? Only water named “clean water” will prevent food poisoning, and you cannot eat zombie meat as well. Other than that, I think most meat should be fine once you cook it. (As long as it’s not rotten). Also, I can confirm that Uncanny Dodge is most certainly not a good way to dodge bullets…

you got to boil your water.

hey folks, I have a problem with refilling the motorcycle I found:

(battery and car horn are red, other parts are at least yellow)

When I tried refilling it, the game said I didn’t have any batteries, so I raided the next electronic store and refilled the battery to about 10% (or at least I think the lower fuel bar represents battery status). I was able to drive up and down the street until the engine “emitted a sneezing sound” that helped further charging the battery, but refilling still won’t work without more batteries.

I then tried to manually fill the gasoline tank by Unloading six or so jerry cans in the vehicle but nothing changed. Do I have to raid the city for more batteries before I can fill the gas tank or what am I doing wrong?

Thanks in advance!

PS. Great game!

the problem is you are attempting to fefill the batteries instead of the fuel tanks. you have to be specific.

First:
YOU WROTE OUT THE ENTIRE REPAIR SCREEN IN ACSII OMGWTF

Second:
The gas tank is on top of the battery, confusing the game.

Move the battery somewhere else on the bike.

I use the curses version, so I can just select and copy-paste the text in my terminal :~)

Thank you, that worked!
Now that I have a basic understand of how vehicles work it’s time to create a rolling fortress… with spikes!

Is there a way to sling your bow over your shoulder, like this? I’ve tried (W)earing it and (a)ctivating it; both do nothing.

Sadly, you can’t.

Well, that’s going on my wishlist.

Any suggestions on where I can pick up an integrated tool set? I’ve realized how horribly inefficient welders are after repairing my entire quad bike with one, and I’d like to grab one to simplify things.

EDIT: Does the game include items in trunks when checking the squares around you for crafting, or do you have to take the items out?

integrated toolset is a cbm, so butcher shockers or head to a lab.

Also don’t bother. Get a vehicle welding rig, and a solar panel and you’re set for life on welding

I thought I remembered cloning vats sometimes held misshapen fetuses and arms and legs you could eat for mutations. Am I misremembering some other object or were they changed to no longer have anything because I have smashed probably hundreds of them so far and got nothing.

Integrated toolset is still really nice just to avoid having to cart around your tech tools everywhere, or for field repairs. That said, I’m usually rolling in batteries before long, anyway, so the regular welder works fine, too.

The Reflex Recurve bow says it needs 12 strength to fire effectively. What’s the penalty if you don’t have 12 strength? For reference, my current strength is 11.

In version 0.9 I keep founding some minor items like forks, teapots, coffee cups etc. And I’m wondering, if they have some use except from adding some flavor to game ? I’ve even tried to 'D’isassemble cigarettes and cigars to get tobacco for tobacco pipe that I’ve recently founded, but my dreams of puffing the pipe while sitting in armchair near fireplace were cruelly broken (.

Well I’m trying to get a vehicle welding rig right now, only I can’t seem to. I have the skills required to make it, I have the components, but I can’t find it anywhere. It doesn’t seem to be in the crafting menu and it doesn’t appear to be an install option on my vehicle.

Its in the crafting menu on the far right, you need good fabrication skills as well as mechanics.

Intergrated toolset is one of the best cbms imo, you can throw out soo much stuff once you have it.
