Ah, yes, schools.
The only place to rival the spawn density of Irradiated Wanderers in the vault.

Yeah, early game (when you need the books most), I usually try to sneak in the back, break a window (if the Zs didn’t do it for me) and loot the library without ever dealing with the horde. If you really want to clear it out some first, go early in the night or the night before, get close, make a good sized pile of flammables, light it up, wait a turn or two, then run - all the Zs (and especially child Zs that are so hard to hit with a new character) will congregate right there and many of them will burn. Come back a few hours before morning, repeat off to one side of the other (to draw the survivors), go back to the original spot, and pulp the corpses. Bam, school is much less dangerous now (but only “less dangerous”, not “safe”).

Schools are also a GREAT place in the early game to get backpacks and other such “school kid” storage. Pretty common to find Swiss army knives, too, not to mention the usually decent stash of food in the cafeteria (and often a gallon or two of milk, useful for the gallon containers if nothing else). Schools can make really great early bases, if you can clean them out well enough.

I have q question: Is it possible to make new wreckage?
Really depends on what exactly you mean by that.
Oh, I mean is the game generating wrackage when cars overlap each other, or it is possible to create new wrackage by, for example, ramming your car into another?

It’s possible to destroy the cars. If you ram into a normal car when in a tank at high speed — tank will most likely get a few segments damaged and the car will be obliterated.
But it will not create a new object of “fused” cars. Each will be destroyed separately.

Oh, I see.

By the way, why are batteries heavier when they are charged?

really sick of that question, because that’s how batteries work, simple as that, a charged battery weighs more than an uncharged one, it’s actually consistent enough to use to measure fuel consumption as well.

In current experimental, where exactly power armor can come from?
I would assume military bunkers, but what else?
Mul. Supply shops? Random encounter in the field? Some lab finale? Any monsters?
To be more specific: are there any sources that are not effected by very low item spawn rate?
I know “armored zombies” can sometimes drop salvaged power armor helmets, but where do these guys spawn and can they drop anything else?

Zombie soldiers can sometimes drop filthy power armor and helmets. 'course, it can be a fairly rare drop. Bank vaults might have them, though I’m not sure if that’s only the case for the Rivtech brand armor.

I generally find power armor laying around by piles of scientist or soldier corpses

Can soldiers drop that? I was under impression it was removed from their loot table.

They still do. Maybe the bio-operators dropped them, or armored zombies.

Really hard to tell. Killed a ton of zombie soldiers and a fair amount of the other two in the big military outpost so it’s hard to tell which dropped what.

Speaking of big military outposts.
Is there any better way to find military outpost and labs and the like other than just driving around the map checking every road (updating the road-map in hotels)?

Bonus question — does reducing city size and increasing city spacing lower the chance to find these kind of features?

There’s a type of map called military operations map which reveals military bunkers and police stations. Sadly, outposts and labs don’t get shown, I think.

Lab map reveal is the best I know of, out of the box, or get really lucky and find a mapping artifact.

The Arcana mod has a mapping tool - expensive and painful to use, but still VERY nice.

Yeah, lab map reveal or an artifact. Then use / on the map screen and search. It’ll search the current overmap, at least.

Artifacts can reveal map?!

Man, I just ignored those things, thought they are good for nothing…

Most of them are… but there is the occasional good one, and then there is the quite rare OMG-THAT’S-SO-BROKEN! Say, an artifact that, when held, gives you clairvoyance for increased hunger, or when used maps the area and gives off a loud sound, or the crazy, CRAZY ones that make you invisible for… well, invisibility if worth just about anything.

Any way to stop random NPCs from stealing shit from your vehicle? I know zones work for a permanent base, but that doesn’t stop random yahoos you meet on the road from immediately rifling through your trunk. If Tracking a vehicle via the Controls menu doesn’t mark all its storage as off limits for NPC looting, it should.

I haven’t upgraded in a few months, and this is one of the reasons - NPCs didn’t take stuff from vehicles until a few months ago. Most of the other reasons have been resolved, so I’ve been thinking about updating… and then I’m reminded of this.

Bear traps? Make them visible out of your car door?
Digging holes probably works as well.
