I rarely ever go back to towns I’ve cleared. I can fit the most essential stuff into my vehicle or persons. I would suggest building a vehicle and preparing for a trek along the highways to see what you come across.
I peeked in the code - you need 50 torso warmth to avoid getting wet in rain (20 for drizzle). Fixed the wiki.
Does anyone know of a way to remove “mountain of rubble”, “pile of rubble”, etc. field effects? I tried to use a jackhammer to knock a wall out of my public works - it worked well, but now these rubble fields are everywhere.

I believe it says something about needing a shovel to clear it. Probably just [a]ctivate and choose the rubble.
On the topic of knocking down walls what all tools can do it? And do you just smack the wall to bring it down, or do you need to [a]ctivate the tool? Because I wailed on a concrete wall with a sledge one time, and all I got was thumps.
Stone and normal shovels work. Use examine.
If i put a blanket in the ground(where i sleep)would it work as if i was wearing it?
Sorry, I should have been more clear. It’s not the rubble tiles. There were some of those, I cleared them already. This stuff is described as “pile of rubble” or “mountain of rubble” - it’s a “field” effect in the code, not the tile.
Not to my knowledge. Shoes’ bodytemp code is basically an exercise in player-inconvenience. Could dig up the post where he admits it, but not right now.
With the jackhammer, you activate it. I don’t think you can break walls/do anything special with a sledgehammer - just use it for construction.
Sledgehammers can knock down weaker constructed walls by (s)mashing them, but they won’t be able to take down more solid ones.

I tend to agree. It would be nice if the temperature stuff were streamlined a bit to make it less about micromanaging clothing on a per-limb basis and more about wearing appropriate clothing for the conditions overall.

I agree completely.
How do i use a vacuum sealer? I tried to (a)activate/use it but couldn’t.
Reload it. Not sure what it needs to be loaded with, but I know it has to be loaded.
The vacuum sealer is used as a tool in a cooking recipe for sealed vacuum packed food. It is in the food section of the crafting menu. Each vacuum-packed meal you make expends 10 charges. The vacuum sealer can be reloaded with batteries. Vacuum-packed food has a difficulty of 4, so your cooking skill level needs to be at least 4 in order to make it.
Edit: Here’s a quick and dirty trick; crafting steel crossbow bolts through 4-1 wood to metal conversion magic.
Reach skill 3 in Traps (the skill book will get you there), craft some wood crossbow bolts, and acquire the needed ingredients for the crossbow trap (easiest way is to disarm a crossbow trap). Create the crossbow trap, using the 4 wood crossbow bolts for the recipe. Disassemble the trap. Instead of 4 wood crossbow bolts, you will get a steel crossbow bolt. Repeat as necessary. Works in 0.6 stable.
How do you drive vehicles? everytime i drive i run everything over and crash into walls
Start by driving slow. When you learn how to drive you don’t immediately take off at 90 MPH after all. Since you only gain driving skill while turning, instead of using the wait command to go forwards instead do a constant left-right-left-right entry. You should still go basically straight, and you will level up fairly quickly. Once you’ve reached a driving skill of 4, you shouldn’t fumble anymore and should be safe driving at higher speeds and longer distances.
I was hoping that BS deaths are not in this game after you learn it, but I just got my ripped character 1-shot killed by a turret, from a long distance. I was wearing a military helmet, was at full health and had the glass jaw. Not a cool way to lose a kick-ass character.
- Str 8
- glass jaw
1) Str 8
2) glass jaw
Uh, yeah. Base HP are based on your ST from chargen, but glass jaw isn’t that much of a hit (only 25% off or so, IIRC). In any event, 8 ST is human norm, not what I would call “ripped”.
Not sure how the turret saw you, though–they typically only see about 3-4 tiles around themselves. Did you have a flashlight on or something?
Looks like flashlight was on. Turrets are just bad news if you aren’t equipped to take them out. Next time you’re roaming a dark science lab and you see a turret, you have two and only two options (well, three if you include blowing it up in one shot) to avoid getting shot at. One, close the door if the door is between you and the turret. Two, shut off your flashlight. The turret can’t shoot what it can’t see. Don’t bother trying to move away in an attempt to break line of sight as it’s possible for it to shoot before you finish moving. The same advice applies to secubots which you might find on the lowest levels of a science lab. Use darkness to your advantage as robots for whatever reason can’t see in the dark. Next time see if you can find or craft yourself some light amp goggles, and use those instead of a flashlight as they don’t light you up like a christmas tree to surrounding enemies.
That said, turrets don’t typically kill a character that fast. You got unlucky. Sorry.
