Tips, Tricks, and Newb Questions!

It took me a night or two to make them un-broken. They start at 1 hp though, so careful not to break them again.

You are just unlucky I guess, I easily found enough reptile and bird eggs to make a stock of powdered eggs.

Bird eggs are fairly common though, you can find them in other places than a 5% chance bush.

That said I am exceedingly unlucky.

It depends on the season now. Spring will get you a lot of eggs, but summer and autumn pad the numbers with a megaton of other drops, making eggs rare.

The deeper you go, the colder they get. The good stuff is where it’s REALLY cold.
[i]“Getting colder… colder… yeah, keep going. Oh you’re so freezing. So close! Absolute zero! Theeere you go. Didn’t think you’d find it at all!”

That explains it. And explains why starting at the bottom of one is a Fun idea.

Summer is the only reason Reptile eggs spawn :stuck_out_tongue:

  1. What happens if one pours 30 gallons of water on a lava tile? Nothing? Obsidian?
  2. Are there any other means to drown a lava tile in water?
  3. Can you drain a lava tile from below? Or does the lava exist there as well?
  4. Can lava tiles be covered with constructions? And if so, does the cover-up eliminate the heat?

(All this assuming that a character can actually take the heat from standing next to lava.)

In the newer experimentals, how do I break into the Mechanics skill without books? I found a skill book that got me to Level 1, but it seems that every vehicle-related function requires at least 2 Mechanics. So if I don’t have 2 Mechanics, I can’t train Mechanics, and without training Mechanics I can’t reach 2 Mechanics. Previously, I’m pretty sure that repeatedly tires could get me to level 2, but that doesn’t seem to work any more.

Please help.

Picking locks is one way, as well as repairing some items with a soldering iron.

As for vehicle parts, if you can procure rope you can make light wooden frames and install a travois for 0 skill. You’ll need 1 skill to remove it though.

crafting most frames requires fabrication lv 0 some require fabrication lv1.

most long-term efficient suggestion i could come up with would be starting to work on a solar rig around your base >>
beyond what random
has already said that is.

cheers

Forgot to mention that I’m also lacking a soldering iron, welder, and hacksaw. In hindsight, that’s going to provide an equally difficult roadblock in the future. Then again, I did just finish cleaning out a Home Improvement Superstore so it’s likely I’ll find what I need there.

Thanks to the both of you.

Hmm. With the humble rock and scrap metal, you can make improvised lockpicks. With a real hammer and nails, the basic things like a travois or most other wood-based parts can be installed.

Or failing that, duct tape. 3:

NPCs can also teach you.

What, you mean they’re good for something besides being food? Madness. o3o

Why?

Where’s that button, that brings the light of inquisition to the Forum I wonder…

Mods are getting slow on the draw, I see. :V

    • Stop, real world mechanics here. Water reaction with lava depends on what is happening if lava runs into water, creates pillow basalt. Aka black hard volcanic rock that is like 52% weight silicon. Same stuff you see after lava cools, pillow basalt tends to clump into a large mass then shear off into smaller roundish balls as the outside cools first, then they smash into each other and pile up as they start to cool.

If it runs over wet sediment it forms the normal basalt we see around volcanoes.

Obsidian forms with 70% of more silica and it’s usually deeper in the ground and harder to find.

Basically what forms is mostly basalt type, and depends on the other sediments that are in the lava.

I don’t think I’d ever want to stand near anything and pour water on lava. Something hot enough to melt sand also melts metals and flesh.

last note: Lava tends to produce a highly explosive steam when reacting with any decent amount of water or anything wet, that would probably burn you if your stupid enough to stand next to it, if explosive bits of rock didn’t also fly off and hit you.

What’s happening is the mods are all asleep, it seems. :V
