I was under the impression the suggested settings were static zombies on, hordes on, for the best possible immersion, and what you would have is static zombies (making it possible to clear a town) - but that hordes would move across the map like in traditional zombie stuff, and towards sources of noise.
Also: Thanks Coolthulhu (great name, btw) - I’ll change that.
If I’m wrong about the static zombies with hordes on, what are the recommended settings then?

Is the laser pistol completely silent? Started shooting at a skeleton, who was standing at the very edge of my vision at night. A ton of shots missed and the ones that hit didn’t do much damage, but the skeleton just stood there, circling around a spot without coming near me.
Also shot a zombie soldier, it kept on saying that the shots kept reflecting off it, but it seems to be doing damage nonetheless, going from uninjured to dead while every single shot bounced off. Found a slightly damaged powered armor from it, if that’s got anything to do with it.
The laser weapons are powerful and silent. Many shots miss skeletons. They have no flesh to hit, so it’s like an innate dodge verses ranged attacked. The LACP pistol doesn’t do much damage, and even less to skeletons. Same thing with a bow.
One reason skeleton dogs are the bane of a low level ranged character. I always burn them on something.
They rock in that you can shoot through glass with them and it doesn’t break the glass Makes them awesome in labs.
It also seems like it has a small chance to set things on fire. Was using it on a spider basement… well, it’s a good thing that I was near the stairs. Fire spread out super fast among the webs.
…yeah. Webs don’t count as flammable for the purpose of allowing you to use a lighter/match on them, but if you get a fire started on them they seem to go up about as well as gasoline.
This just happened with my latest character about an hour ago :/. Tried to create an underground bonfire to roast all the black widows inside… ended up burning to death while surrounded by fire and flaming giant spiders. What an awful way to go.
I don’t see why webs can’t be directly set on fire, however. It would seem so obvious…
Can’t the doors be set on fire? I recall doing that, or at least setting the spider basement on fire without having to open the doors.
Yes the doors can, but it would seem like you would be able to directly set webs on fire. Not really a problem IMO but it seems like such a simple fix/implementation/oversight.
Thing is, in real life webs generally melt, not burn. o3o
Hmm, a quick google search resulted in confirmation of that fact. My mistake, I was under the assumption that extremely fibrous bio-matter = flammable but I guess proteinaceous material isn’t actually that flammable irl.
Deku Trees however, are very flammable. o3o
He looks so, so angry O_O
You would be too, if your everything was on fire.
Very true.
This was true many versions ago, but I’m pretty sure I explicitly changed it in one of the fire updates.
Huh, that’s odd. Could’ve sworn I tried lighting a patch of webbing in one of the recent experimentals (2959 or 2960 I think) and still had to place some tinder first.
Though it looks like in the week since, even more updates have been compiled, so must be more recent. o3o
Nope, the change is about a month old. If it doesn’t work, it might have gotten broken (possibly one of my Z-level updates).
Either broken, or I might’ve just set the tinder down from force of habit without trying to light the web by itself.
Has anyone had experience with a decreasing return on investment in mutagenic seurm post threshold? It seems to be increasingly hard to get the last few mutations in a category. I’m assuming this is WAD, but I just want to see what experience others have. Trying to get the shell mutation for my post-threshold cephalopod, and its getting kinda frustrating. I’ve had plenty of instances where … just nothing happens at all.
Edit: I finally got it. Holy cow I never really thought I’d ever drink so much mutagen and have nothing happen though. Its usually more of a crapshoot. Then again, I’ve never really gotten almost every mutation in a category and kept drinking mutagen of that category before.
Are you using generic mutagen or category-specific?
