Tips, Tricks, and Newb Questions!

I got fcked up by RNG, so there is no single lib in my surroundings. Any advice on where to find some books to get electronics recipes from?

Mansions are option for containing a small library, schools are better. Malls are an outside chance and electronics stores have a chance to spawn most electronic books. Does depend on what level book you are after though, Robotics for fun and profit is going to be damn hard to find either way. By memory ripping solar panels off cars and pulling them apart will raise your electronics a fair way.

Failing that get on your bike an head to the next town. If you have decent computer skills and a science id or 2 then downloading local maps from lab computers makes finding stuff much easier.

Thanx, will consider raiding some lab. No el. stores around, tho.

Btw, RNG decided to give me something to have fun with. Was wandering thru forests hunting, and found a cache… contents:
C-4: 85
dynamite: 79
smoke bomb: 70
tear gas canister: 41
mininuke: 9
flashbang: 51
Emp grenade: 22
Grenade: 45
incendiary grenade: 40
Granade: 9

All this was just in one tile, hidden deep in the woods. No traps around, nothing. Someone really liked to go BOOM

Holy wow, qurvax, that is a crap ton and a half of explosive fun! Enjoy the boom. °=°

I need a bit of advice…or speculation, at least. I’ve finally made my way into a larger city and was happy to find a conveniently placed firehouse to become my new base. After clearing the surrounding neighborhood, I gleefully went inside to accept the keys to the place from the previous, though now zombified, owners. While taking a tour, I noticed one of the walls in the large open room where non-zombie firemen might park firetrucks in happier times was curiously disturbed. Instead of the nice smooth wall one might expect, I found a bunch of ####&# stuck in the wall! Closer inspection revealed this to be where the wall and a wrecked vehicle decided to merge. I subsequently developed a cold and thanks to my very loud and obnoxious cough, I had called some very brain hungry guests over for a housewarming party. Using the opportunity as presented, I happily found that nothing seemed able to cross this wreckage barrier.

I am left with some questions though. If zombie dogs and regular zombies haven’t been able to cross this barrier as of yet, is that likely to remain the case? I mean short of a hulk, of course. Would I be better off to leave the wreckage in place instead of removing it? My OCD tells me to clean up the mess, but I don’t want to be left with a big gaping hole in the side of my new Awesome Base. Any ideas? BTW thanks to everyone that has contributed to this thread. I read all 257 pages as of this post and I learned a bunch.

Wow. That’s a lot of reading, but experience is the best teacher huehuehuhe.

Anyway, you could turn the wreckage into a crafting area instead of removing it. Just remove the parts outside and make boards so they can’t see you.

As building walls are too much of a hassle imo, i recommend some (like 3 rows of) landmines spiked pit’s with burning corpses in them!

Also, anyone have any good methods on getting meaningful amounts of water? I have dropped a wooden barrel under a funnel, but it’s always end’s up having weak acid. Maybe there is some way to fill my MCB’s tanks directly from the river and purify it?

I saw there are wells now… but training construction without a book above 3 is kinda lot of pain.

Go into every house and take the toilet water, or find a pool and take water from that.

Funnels are useful for small containers. Wooden barrel is gonna be rather heavy when filled–I use jerrycans. Ninja’s advice is sound, though. Any standing water on the map (river, swimming pool, etc) should be boilable to clean water–there’s some issue with the water in shopping malls, but we should have that worked out pretty quick.

Thank you very much. Somehow i didn’t think about driving to a pool myself

are we able to attach trailers to large truck?

Found a trailer and truck parked near the loading docks of a mega mall but could not seem to be able to attach it.

if we cant attach it (whice it has to be possible some how) I think it should be looked into as it would make an amazeing base.

P.S

we dont need a pivot point where the trailer and truck join (though it would be cool) just one long truck and trailer would be better that nothing

Are .22 rounds really worth using? Or would I be best off taking them apart and using the ingredients for other ammo?

Nope. unless a .22 gun is all you have. just dissemble them and make 5.56 (.65?) rounds with them.

5.56 is right. It’s the same as .223, which is basically a .22 magnum on steroids.

.22 is good to train rifles. At least that’s was the case some time ago. And later game just disassemble it to get some good.

.22 FMJ is decent, LR is ok, CB has the small advantage of being very very quiet, though about as powerful as throwing rocks. And yeah, because they spawn in 100 round lots, they are good training ammo. Ratshot is pretty much useless.

.22 SMG with long burst is great for clearing out spores at a fungal spire.

So if its all you have, LR/FMJ will do the job and its easy to carry around a few hundred of them. Ive used the marlin or one of the .22 pistols as a walking around gun (backed up with a handcannon) plenty of times.
If it helps I rate .22 LR above shotgun birdshot for usefulness.

How come vehicle tracking devices aren’t working with my PDA anymore?

Is the tracking device turned on?
Does the PDA have batteries?

Sometimes it does oddball things when you load a game. Turn the tracker on and off in your car and it seems to fix it most of the time.

Tracking Device: ON
PDA Battery: FULL

Don’t know what else to do.

Yeah, sorry for the wall of text. I’m a nurse. I chart crazy amounts of information for a living. >.< Boards! As long as I can attach boards to wreckage…Great idea. If not, the cleared wreckage can become frames and boards will definitely attach to that. That would solve the problem. Thanks Ninja.
