What do you mean? Automatic shifting of the screen in the direction of the front of the vehicle?
Is that a recent thing, or an ASCII only feature?
I don’t recall that happening when I last played.

I only play ASCII XD
Battery is slow, and also, just spam 5 and 8, it will go and stop and go go and stop alot.
No, that’s not what you do. You wait a rew days for it to chrage and them go.
The noobs here feed my power level, but I might become a noob if I don’t GET MY DANG COMPUTER FIXED UGGHHH
Not much sunshine during lightning storms…
you have the wrong panels. there’s (at least) a 2nd type of solar car from which you will want to take the panels and i mean all of them. then put them on this frame, its a good one. also gather up all the batteries of all the types you can find and install them. one of each kind wherever you can put them. then add armor (and remove the roof and sides so no mob will find the tile with the solars on them an obstacle)
but for now install a fuel tank (you’ll want it anyway so that you can collect fuel for fires later) and any 2cyl engine with all the alternators you can find. there are also 3 types of those. put them all on the gas engine and let it charge the batteries with the electric engine removed. when you’re done, just remove the gas tank and put back the electric motor (i think. i think you dont have to actually undo the gas engine setup)
electric is a really great choice now! go hunt for recharge kit and energy weapons while you’re at it.
anywhoo… wrong panels
you’ll get better tech soon, for now make liberal use of the ‘=’ assignment command so that you can have easy to press letters. do stay away from the ‘craft until done’ menu from hell, or use it at the risk of dying from thirst because there is no way to break out of that loop. (it would at best save you one key-stroke right now anyway, its very broken)
also look at your keybinds. you will probably want to throw out the default set which has you wear out the shift key pretty fast. keyboard handling too is utterly broken right now (about a -5% fun rating i guess; no fkeys, no numbers, numpad/arrow weirdnesses ++) … if the craft key or the repeat key make you move your hands, change them. with a little compensation like that you can make it work really well till you hit the next level tech. enjoy the campy moment!

What? Those are the basic solar panels, the kind you will find on any electric car. There are other variants, but they are rare and/or need to be crafted.
Also, you can only install one kind of battery in a square, and batteries take up the same “slot” as fuel tanks.
so if we are discussing about cars, can someone tell me why can’t I place minifridge in my vehicle? I already have it, it’s not damaged but I just don’t see option like that. I use police car. same goes with box. is it just too small? should I jump into bigger thing?
No, you’re probably just trying to install it over a seat or trunk that’s already in the car. Remove those and try again.

He means the solar car (as opposed to electric ones). It’s in the new builds, I’m not sure if it’s in stable. It has upgraded solar panels, and lots of them.
Anyhow, I don’t think the original poster got an answer he was looking for so here:

nope and nope again. i tend to find exactly 2 kinds of solar vehicles, one with a decent body, 4 of the mark 1 panels and one storage battery and another wich has a an ultra-light frame, the basic engine and any number of the enhanced mark 2 panels that give twie the juice and just one storage battery. so it seems like an intentional little puzzle to me, but maybe its the rng. … and with the batteries, please just try it. i’m using build 1381 from here: http://dev.narc.ro/cataclysm/jenkins-latest/Windows/Curses/
edited to add … also, p.s. storage batteries, unlike car/bike/motorcycle batteries do not act like gas tanks. thus you can put them many more places. also also note that if you put the panels on things that are not obstacles they won’t get trampled by anyone … so you don’t have to start an arms-race to get the enhanced mark 2 panels when the basic mark 2’s work just fine.
(speaking of tanks…) bug i noticed with rigs that have multiple tanks … the tank-gauge is wrong. i once took all the batteries out of my solar plant, then put them back in, all at their respective max-charge … and in the end it showed like 31%. some days later it showed 45% but the batteries had already been full before … quite weird. i see a similar thing with gas tanks. 2 of three full to the brim, i’m at 50ish% gas
Noobs: The power of my soul.
yes, you got it.
i thought the bubble was 7 wide, so that you could be like 6*24 squares or so away from the car.
I thought it was 60.
i’m just guessing based on the time-stamps in my save-folder. there i see stripes of 7 files altered when i save without doing anything. since each file covers 24 squares (say, width) then i’d guess that there could be at most 5*24 + 23, or 143 squares between me and the edge of the tile the car is on before it gets swapped out of the bubble.
that’s my guess though. where did you get your number from? will someone in the know please tell?
I have a cheezy exploit for the starting game or anytime you don’t want to be surrounded in a city.
first the starting game. start surrounded with z spawn under 4, i don’t know that one could manage more without great pain. anyway, the idea is that you’ve invited the z’s to your party and they are all there to bring you things to make you starting game totally easy. put one or two points in evasion. start at midnight. … once there, make a bee-line for the stairs, go down and stand to the left. leave the doors closed. you might be getting a message that there are zombies on the stairs. this is good. stand on the left of the free tiles between the doors and stairs.
voila, that’s the setup for the ‘zombies only come down one at a time’ stairs exploit. if you made it down without anything coming after you, go upstairs and invite some. unless you get a k9 you should be fine and wind up with a nice pile of cloth to sleep on soon.
second, the sewer exploit. invite a whole city to come down after you … one by one … if you follow this one rule: stand directly in front of the stair you came down from. that is, descend, then press up or down exactly once. you will be swamped right away if you move from that spot, so stay there to fight. now go up, invite some friends and go back to the magic spot to collect their gifts. rinse and repeat. there should be at most 8ish per group, sometimes maybe 12.
this is of course a very time-limited exploit, expect it to have been fixed by the time you read this, but try it with what you have. for fun you can also have them self-incinerate as they come down but that may not be for day 1 when you actually need/want their presents.
notice, pretend there are spiders and zombies in the starting shelter basement if you do this. do not open the doors until you’ve cleared the upstairs and picked up some kind of weapon, or you’ll be stuck with having to make a run from the shelter … and you know there’s dogs out there…
enjoy the rush!
Hiya folks
ive been playing cata for the last few weeks and this trhead and the wiki have been invaluable to me, just like to say thanks for all the help.
Now on to the questions:
1 There are several mutation trees i have never found any specific serium for: medical, alpha, elf-a and chimera, do these serums exist? If not how on earth do you get to the treshold with them?
2 Threshold mutation dreams, if you get one type is that the only type you will get on that char or can you get others if you continue to mutate away from the triggers of the first one? ive been chugging loads of mutagenic seriums and the first set of dreams dont seem to be going away.
3 Weapon CBMs, most of them have a niche, with the exception of the monoblade which seems to be a direct upgrade from the bionic claws is there something im missing with these two weapons?
4 Artifacts, is it just me or is their balance between good and bad really out of whack? i found a fissure event in which i farmed hundreds of them, in nearly every case the downsides make them not worth using over a nailboard/normal clothes, let alone any of the other endgame stuff.
5 Labs, reading through this thread people talk of labs as being really scary places, in my experiance they are the complete opposite, with the exception of the turrets and the occasional basic zombies the only threats are locked in cells or out of the way rooms.
6 Weapon damage, if a weapon is listed as having 20 bash damage and 40 cut damage are those two values added together against mobs that dont have any specific resistances to either?
Hi Nekojusan, I dont have the mutation know-how yet and must ask you a question about what you wrote there. What’s a fissure event? Do you mean the rubble fields with lightning/fire that present them in the wilderness, the shimmering portals or something else?
Also, with you having that many, have you ever dropped them into a vehicle storage compartment and found that later you had multiple of the last kind of artifact you dropped in there? Its happened to me but i’d like to farm for more and see about reproducing that.
The artifact as clothing or needles or whatever can and will kill you when actively worn, but other than that they are perfectly usable from a vehicle. just pickup, fire and drop. in this case the negative effect is less likely to trigger.
agreed. if you mod the area around the shoggoth so that you make a 1 wide tunnel for you to fight it in you can lead it there from its cage, then bash and dodge it (you’re pushing it back out the tunnel slowly now) until you’re done. next lead it back home, close the cage door and rest up.
if you have plutonium and the receipe you can craft powerstorgae bionics from all the consoles in there while you’re down there too. but as you said, for the rewards they offer they are way way way too insecure. fwiw, labs are the only place to ever turn on SAFE. (until you can dodge/tank the turrets do that before training up with the shoggoth)
i don’t know. i’m guessing no because criticals might both be larger and more frequent then. probably factored seperately then added. guessed. also applicable here… where do the skill points go? My catana seems to train mostly bash which i find weird. i wonder if its related to what type of damage i wound up doing.
i look forward to someone writing up something good about mutations!
