Tips on organizing items in base (due to having too many)

I tend to have a lot of various items strewn around the place. Chances are, a lot of them won’t end up actually being used for a long time, if at all, but I see no reason to get rid of it. I’m definitely not a hoarder, I promise.

This has resulted in me having a whole floor tile completely filled with items, so much that I literally cannot add any more to it. This namely happens to stuff in the ‘spare parts’ category.

I usually choose a tile to plop down all items of one or more categories (only multiple if they’re ‘smaller’ ones). Then I move a few things of particular note (such as planning to break them down or often grabbing them) to their own spots. So it’s not like I’m completely disorganized, there’s just so much.

Plus, if I ever want to move a whole pile, it ends up taking ages to do so since there is, again, just so much of it. Mostly spare parts. It’s always the spare parts.

Aside from just ‘general’ tips that may help, does there happen to be some sort of way to ‘auto’ organize items? A big reason the ‘spare parts’ is an issue is because the category is so vast, and it’s frustrating trying to break it down into my own ‘subcategories’ manually ever time it comes up.

Are you using Zones? Zones lets you paint tiles as belonging to a category, or special zones like unsorted loot. Unsorted loot zones can be auto-sorted by a command, your character will pick up and move things to matching zones based on whatever you’ve painted out - they can be big, so I often end up with big sections of parts and such. Once you get to truly astronomical volumes of loot, or just hit the unique item cap on a given tile, I go through and use containers to pack things away into a ‘deep storage’ that I manage more manually, since at that point its usually sheer bulk stuff, like pills or seasonings. If there’s an automated way to make things get bundled into containers in zones, I haven’t figured it out yet.
