Stats Through Skills IV not working

The mod doesn’t seem to be updating my stats at all, and I’m decently far in the game with enough skills for it to change something about my stats. I always see the message pop up, but no actual effect. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah same here, i just use the debug menu and update every 30 days.

By my own criterea to emulate stats through skills.

I think stasthroughskillsIV doesnt work any one for months now.

Last I checked the version that’s packaged with the game download is the only one that works on the experimentals.

The good news is you’re not without an option, even if you’re pretty far along on a character. You can still use the StatsThroughSkills that comes with the main game.

You should have the game closed when attempting this. Also, if you happened to delete the original StatsThroughSkills when you installed StatsThroughSkills IV: A New Nope, it will need to be put back in data/mods first.

1. Open the game directory.

2. Go to the “save” folder, open the subfolder with your current world name.

3. Find and open mods.json.

4. Once the file is open, any standard text editor will suffice, find “StatsThroughSkillsFour” in the file and erase the “Four” from it. Only the word, no quotation marks, commas, brackets, or anything else.

5. Finally, save mods.json and close it.

When you load your game again, it will be using the working version of the mod. Do note however, that the working version of the mod only recalculates stats on skill level ups, so you won’t see any changes until something else levels up.

What if one does not have a text editor?

What are you using? I’m pretty sure Windows comes with one by default, MacOS can at least install one, and Linux should be able to as well if it doesn’t already have one. If you’re using Android or iOS that’s honestly out of my area but it seems like their respective app stores should have one. That said, I recall hearing that Androids were having some trouble with lua, which I’m fairly sure is required for this.

What is the windows text editor called? I use Windows7(don’t judge me) and i Think i find the area, but, i open it with Wordpad, and, it gives a list of mod names, and nothing else. About a dozen or so words.

Windows’ default text editor is Notepad, but WordPad works fine too. One of the words in the list of names should be “StatsThroughSkillsFour”. You’ll need to delete the Four from it and save the file.

The JSON files are just a text document basically, they can be opened in a document program, word, open office, notepad, etc, the recommended is notepad++.

only use the , if it isn’t at the end otherwise add a , after “necromancy”

All my saves suddenly are gone. a few weeks worth of play time, almost 60 days of game time…gone.

Sorry to hear that. Changing the mods file shouldn’t have done that, though. Was anything else changed in the process?

Is the folder that has the world name still inside the “save” folder? If so, what files are inside of it?

The save file is empty. Everything is gone. I…don’t know what happened. All that work…

If it was deleted through the game itself then it probably can’t be recovered but I think you would have noticed that happening. Does anyone aside from yourself use the computer the game is on?

If it was deleted through the explorer it might be in your recycle bin. You could check there. It’s usually on the desktop.

If it was moved rather than deleted then searching for it might work. The Windows 7 Start Menu should have a search box at the bottom of it. You could try typing your world name into that and see if it produces any results.

Not in recycle bin, no results when i search…its just gone, and i don’t know why. Updating usually takes a while, so i watch a vid or something till its done…FUCK! I had SO Much STUFF, so much Work accomplished >.< I was JUST getting into a lab… all gone.

Are you using the Automatic Updater? It does botch updates sometimes and delete the old data without replacing it. I stopped using it when I lost a Broken Cyborg I had nearly cleaned up.

If you are using it then there might be a “previous_version” folder. If it’s there try going inside of it, your data might be in the “save” folder there.

The launcher only deletes things in one circumstance, hitting that install button again right after a failed install. It may fail mid update and leave you with half your game directory transfered to previous_version. The deleting happens at this point, as most people will just hit install again. This deletes whatever was in previous_version. Hence the tales of horror about the launcher deleting things. I hope this isn’t what happened to you, but it wouldn’t be the first time. The launcher in its’ current form is geared towards advanced users who can troubleshoot the little errors it has, rather than the playerbase as a whole which is who it’s marketed too.
