Wire mesh screen:
Used for the same purpose as a windscreen (block entrance + visibility). It has the benefit of using more common materials. Other than that they are the same, as windscreens don’t protect you from rain or acid AFAIK, only roofs do that. I couldn’t find any decent photo reference, but I guess you know what I mean (this is actually a “stone protector”, and this is a toy car)

Rear mirror
Gives you some visibility behind your vehicle. It’d be placed outside, like spikes and blades.
TBH I don’t think know if implementing this is even possible right now (there’s no mirrors, for starters), but it’d make driving trucks backwards less of a gamble.
Mirrors would be nice for eliminating blind spots, especially in those pickup trucks. It doesn’t really have to do any mirror work, it just has to provide a cone of vision so long as you can see it. Not perfect, but a much simpler solution.
Manually operated guns.
Much like a turret, it is a mounted gun set up to be operated from the driver’s seat. You use the $ menu to aim and fire the gun. They are made using mechanics and then installed in the vehicle. Unlike turrets they do not auto fire.
Comes in two varieties, a simpler mechanics version, and a CCTV version. The CCTV version is more accurate but require parts that can only be produced through electronics skill, as well as the mechanical components.
Grenade Launcher turrets
Both manual and automatic varieties.
Hybrid engines.
A single engine that can draw from either fuel tanks or storage batteries. Switched with the $ key. Runs quieter in electric mode.
Alternator
Mostly for use with hybrid engines. It’s a car part that detects if the current engine is using fuel for power and uses the engine to charge any storage batteries while running.
It would be cool if there was a cargo part, made from steel frame. You could drive your motorcycle onto the cargo tiles of a flat bed truck, park it, and then haul it with the flatbed truck. And the cargo tiles could haul any other items placed on them.
Support, especially the vehicle mounting–one reason I’m afraid to use the Cars I’ve found is that I can’t take my Bicycle along. Roof rack would be nice.
Guy I know wants to make a Welder turret, fed from the vehicle battery, so he can repair the thing without getting out of it.
The only problem is that right now collision handling is a bit over the top. I managed to destroy half a garage (and a nearby house) by trying to get a semi trailer inside, all this while driving at minimum speed when using auto cruiser (16km/h).
So, my addition to that suggestion would be an option to automatically place the vehicle inside the cargo area as long as it fits. Otherwise you’d most likely either damage the vehicle or the cargo area.
Horn
A noisemaker, controlled from $. It can be rigged to stay on even with the player out of the car, allowing the player to distract blind monsters while the player goes about their business nearby.
Barbed wire covering
A poor man’s spiked plating. Does not provide any protection but it causes the attached part to inflict additional damage like spiked plating does. Requires little/no skill to install and repair.
Rebar plating
A simple plating made from rebar and 2x4s. Works surprisingly well, protecting as well as steel plating, but it’s heavier. Also relatively easy to maintain and repair.
Also tangentially related, it would be nice to be able to rename individual frame pieces. Just so we know exactly what part of the car just vaporized that squirrel when it’s already drenched in blood.
