Never considered pine nuts, thanks! Also, got lots of spider meat. Things are looking up, just have to find dehydrator.

Charcoal Smoker will work as a substitute. I believe it has a fabrication req of 3 ( I think ) to make. The only problem is charcoal, but even then charcoal can be made using another tool ( wood burner? something like that ).

You’re pretty brave for starting in winter in 90 day seasons no less. This might seriously stop you from pursuing mutations you want in the future though.

I have access to the stuff to make lots of charcoal (rocks and logs really) so the only resource I’ll be consuming is time. And thank you! I wanted a challenge without having to have the game slow to a halt with amphetamine withdrawal and the like.

Ant hill or triffids are the easiest source.

Basements/sewers would be next - rats, sewer snakes, basement spider, sewerhanas, etc.

And conveniently, you don’t actually have to worry about smoking the meat in winter…

If you’re desperate, fungaloids actually can provide decent sustenance, as fluid bladders can be turned into dehydrated vegetables (or something dehydrated, forget which), so as to be more “food” than drink.

Foraging-wise, you can sometimes find hickory nuts in winter. Also, several types of wood can be turned into sugar with the right tools/skills/recipes.

If you’re REALLY desperate, you can eat tainted meat. Not fun, but prevents starvation.

Hey, If you become a Chimera mutant meat will literally turn into HP when eaten in excess.
If you get the right perks, you can eat zombies with no penalty other than morale and heal from the most grievous of wounds.

Also sewers and ant hills are my main source of regular meat in the winter. Zombies are the second option, but that’s when (Rarely) times are a little hard or when i’m out killing an entire city and I ran out of regular meat.

NPCs are a viable food source.
