I chose to start at the police station and I was trapped in this room and I’ve tried using a pipe, makeshift crowbar, and a gun to break the door, to no avail.

Go to the help screen (?), press (1), locate the debug menu command near the bottom of the list and press (+) to tell it you wish to add a new binding, then press the key you wish to bind it to.

Thanks for the help guys, it worked and I promptly died due to electric and grabber zombies.
