Excessive caloric intake

It seems as of late I am spending more time trying to feed myself more than anything else. To make matters worse my weight keeps dropping as a consequence.

For reference, I did an AI search for a sumo wrestlers caloric intake as shown below:

Based on this snippet of data, it seems plausible that the games caloric requirements are indeed excessive, but since this is a cataclysm, who knows. :person_shrugging:

This has been brought up a lot of times, and it’s not so unreasonable. Lumberjacks working with axes used a ballpark of 8k kcal, and the player often pushes their characters harder than that. This is before you add stuff like mutations to the mix.

Thanks for the reply. My problem was recovery for over 1 month from a broken arm being sidelined to only reading and meditation, unable to even wield a long stick and still burning calories as though harvesting lumber thus leading to unwanted weight loss.

Of course since this is the cataclysm, stress will be expected to be high.

The stress hormone is Cortisol and it is linked to increased appetite (something the game is clearly demonstrating) but it also increases fat storage which is not present in the game.

It would be nice to see this weight acquisition problem be addressed for the amount of calories being consumed under the duress of the cataclysm.

If you have a phone or a calory tracker cbm you’ll see exactly how much cal you use each day. If it’s much more than 2k/day and you only do light activities then it should be a bug.

Hey thanks for the reply. I typically don’t track my caloric intake through the use of phone or fitness band, but mainly how much and how fast my food supply is consumed, especially when in a low activity state such as in reading/meditating. I do however try to put in a minimum of 2500 cal./day as that is the typical adult amount needed to maintain weight.

Since characters I play are typically average in physical ability, albeit with some athleticism (i.e.: no pro athlete, or physically demanding job) I try to exceed the bare minimum 2500cal./day with an average range of 3500-4000 cal./day.

Yet the most alarming thing was, even when consuming 3500-4000 cal./.day under the light activities mentioned earlier, instead of gaining weight (as realistically could be expected), to my chagrin, I was still losing weight.

Now mind you, this I experienced over a week ago and haven’t seen the same effects as of late, I have however, made changes to my characters in terms of psionic usage as well, so its too soon to say that anything has changed.

To offer a possible resolution to the rather complex modelling of caloric intake might be to provide at character creation some estimate/measure of caloric requirements to play that type of character. This would be based off a table of known values for various occupations/age groups and scaled accordingly.

It’s not perfect, but it might make the game a bit easier to relate to, while avoiding the rabbit hole complexity of feeding oneself in the cataclysm.
