If you expect to spend more than 45 minutes in your entire life doing digital art of any kind - even if it’s just doing brightness/contrast correction on a hand-drawn piece, do yourself a favor and get a real image editor. For the love of adorable baby pixils, don’t use Paint.
I recommend Photoshop or Gimp. Photoshop is expensive but it’s the industry standard. Gimp is free and is just as good for the non-professional user, although there’s less in the way of guides, documentation, etc. Other options include Paint.net (free, haven’t tried it but it’s supposed to be easier to use or something) and Corel Paint Shop (mid-priced, haven’t tried it).
Well… I’ve got you another good Photo Editing program, that is more or less a mix between PS and Gimp, but is just a really, really good upgrade from MS paint.
PaintdotNet
It’s absolutely free and has the user friendliness of a kitten (given you know at least a little of what things do in photo editing programs)
Whenever I start a drawing, the first thing I do is toggle Anti-aliasing as I feel the sharp pixel look is nice, even though it looks like a basic MS Paint drawing.
