Here’s a bonus concept doodle I did while trying to figure out how the gun would work - it’s a bit unconventional in its loading mechanism but that’s how it goes with ChazMoth and makeshift weaponry:
[snip]
The idea being it’s a top-loading single shot pistol, you push the lever forward to open up the chamber, a spring mechanism will haphazardly eject any spent shell inside, you insert a new shell, pull the lever back to close the gap (So that the pressure of the shot is kept inside the gun), pull back the hammer, pull the trigger and bam - a face full of buckshot. Whose face? Probably the user’s face, but when the benefits outweigh the risks, it’s proooobably worth it. Probably.
That is delightfully jury-rigged. Based on my complete lack of knowledge and experience, I’d guess the more likely failure modes would be (a) hot gases driving powder through leaky seams and tattooing your hand, arm, and face with nasty burns or (b) the entire mechanism exploding, which would be less “buckshot” and more “shrapnel”.
But it does, in fact, have greater than zero chance of working. Were I in the Cataclysm, with no other options? Yeah, I’d use it.
hmm seems like it would basically be a more complicated, but faster reload pipe gun. I like it though, I think first time making this gun gives survivor a huge moral boost. Just invented a new gun that works, from scratch. Thats a kudos if ever there was one worth earning.
The gun actually already exists in the game as the 12 gauge pistol, this was just my interpretation of what such a jury rigged gun would look like!
It’s actually not too complex, aside from the basic trigger mechanism and the not very reliable ejector spring. The chamber cover has no complex moving parts, it’s just a metal plate with a crooked handle stuck on top - no springs there, just friction holding the plate in place. Very unreliable, very likely to injure the user as much as the target.
Now if the Can-gun from Teleglitch were a thing, that would be ridiculous |D
“This is my 12-gauge pistol, the only one in the world, and it could blow your face clean off, so you’ve got to ask yourself one question: Do I feel lucky? Well, do ya, NPC?”
Serious question though, do you guys draw huge and resize the final product? Because not kidding, last time I checked, my canvas size was something like 3000x3000. I draw hueg liek xbawx. Or rather, I just zoom out a lot and draw normalsize. I got sick of running out of pixels when it came time to cleanup. RUNNING OUT OF PIXELS IS MY LEAST FAVOURITE.
Oh man this group pic is gonna be awesome, with all the handmade guns and different styles. YEsssssss
Oh god yes so much good drawings while i was gone this is gonna be amazing oh y e s
No kiddong, this will look epic!
And yes! But it totally depends on what I’m drawing though. Most of the time I use textures, and it’s hard to find quality, large textures, so I go with 1500 or 1200!
Welp. I was gonna draw something, almost five hours later I’ve given up, frankly Chaz if you knew how badly this turned out I think you’d be insulted. XD I mean even the Chaz GELF I drew awhile back is loads better than this… SORRY.
Epic drawings, everybody! Also, @Inquisitor_Dust, if you give me a drawing that you’d like to be used, I wouldn’t mind giving it lineart/colour sometime.
Sorry for the doublepost; here’s a very quickly drawn me! I could have made it a little better, but I’m in somewhat of a rush today and need to get my hair cut!

I actually put the can gun in the suggestions thread. The new weapons thread I mean. Couldn’t be that hard, we already have non reloadable LAWs.

I’m imagining a flat spring for the ejector, like the spring for the battery in a lot of flashlights. Also, I noticed that the ejector spring would be pushing the chamber cover against the top of the barrel, which will improve the seal.
…err, imagine that I put the back of the chamber a little further back, so the rear edge of the cartridge pressed against the bolt, instead of empty space.

My favorite thing about the Can-gun from Teleglitch is that it automatically deals ten damage to you, the user, when you fire it. :D
(Seriously, though, I don’t even want a can-gun in Cataclysm. It’s suicide.)
I draw on paper, scan (usually at 200dpi), and edit digitally - which does typically involve resizing the final product. I never got the hang of drawing on a tablet.
Are those earrings on the cartoon of your antler guy?
I’m actually not usually good at drawing big - My usual canvas size, at least when I don’t have backgrounds or scenery planned out, is 1280x1280, sometimes I’ll make tiny drawings, sometimes I’ll make standard sized drawings, and then crop in haphazardly from there. With that ChazMoth picture I did I tried to draw a little bigger than I have been for the past while.
Well I can’t draw…so I took first ever selfie…no wait I think I took selfie before…probably blocking memory of it though
can’t draw
be me
post selfie instead
Note: not from Oregon, no explanation needed its a cool jacket
wait for laughs and screams of horror
remember why never take selfies
never do more selfies
wait more patiently for art cuz they better anyways
Would you find it creepy if I said you look very handsome?
