Cataclysm Windows instant close

So for about a year or two, whenever I try to play Cataclysm, the game opens, but instant closes at an half of a second. I tried other versions but its the Brin and Cooper versions that dont work. All the other ones work. Any ideas?

So after the first time you open it and it closes a folder called config should be created in your cata folder. Inside config is a text document called options. Go to this part

#Use software renderer instead of graphics card acceleration.
#Default: False
SOFTWARE_RENDERING true

and make sure it says true at the end there. That should fix it. Good luck and let me know if that’s not it.

Make sure at least one sound output device is on. Cata will crash when trying to play a sound (such as selecting a main menu option) otherwise.
